<![CDATA[The original is a survival battle manga by Satoru Noda, which has been serialized in Weekly Young Jump since 2014. The first season of the TV anime aired from April to June 2018, the second season from October to December 2018, and the third season is scheduled to air from October 2020. Set in Hokkaido and Karafuto at the end of the Meiji era, the story is about various intentions intersecting over a gold nugget left behind by a prisoner called "Noppera-bo". In addition to the Japanese version, many foreign language versions have been published, including Chinese, Korean, French, Italian, Spanish, English, and German. The first anime season was from volumes 1 to 7, the second season was from volumes 8 to 14, and the third season is expected to be from volumes 15 to 21. This time, I would like to introduce the points of the third season based on the original. There will be some spoilers, so if you haven't seen it yet, please be careful!

Recap of the second season of the anime

Sugimoto
Sugimoto, Hijikata and the others infiltrate Abashiri Prison to carry out the operation to recapture Nopperabo. However, the Nopperabo that Sugimoto and Shiraishi met deep inside the prison was a fake. Hijikata thought that by having Inudo target the fake one deep inside the prison, he would take out the real Nopperabo. As Hijikata had planned, Inudo went to Nopperabo, and Hijikata and Inudo engaged in a one-on-one fight. Meanwhile, Nopperabo, who had escaped, meets Sugimoto. Sugimoto tells Nopperabo about Asirpa and tries to find out where the gold is.
Inkarma, who was watching from the roof, calls Asirpa up to the roof to confirm if she is the father. Nopperabo sees Inkarma and his daughter on the roof and tries to tell Sugimoto something, but is killed by Okita's sniper. Thinking he has heard a secret, Okita also shoots Sugimoto in the head. Inkarma realizes that Kiroranke has been signaling to someone and is stabbed, and Kiroranke and Okita leave for Sakhalin with Shiraishi and Asirpa. Sugimoto is saved by Lieutenant Tsurumi and travels to Sakhalin with Tanigaki to recapture Asirpa.

We can't leave it to them alone!

Chikapashi and Ryu
Sugimoto and his party arrive in Otomari (now Korsakov), located about 40 kilometers from the northernmost tip of Hokkaido. Among Koito's huge luggage are Chikapashi and Ryu. Tanigaki takes responsibility and takes them with him, but Chikapashi pretends to be Tanigaki and his family, which helps them to move around Karafuto without arousing suspicion, and Ryu uses his natural nose to help them. Without these two, the journey to Karafuto would probably have been much more difficult.

They must have done it on purpose? ! Repeatedly getting the wrong photo

Sugimoto gets the wrong photo
Sugimoto and his team are gathering information in Otomari and begin questioning Asirpa based on her photo. Sugimoto shows Tanigaki's photo multiple times. I mean, why does he have such a photo? That's how it feels though (lol)

Photo stories can be found here

Photo of Sugimoto
After getting lost in the snowy mountains, Sugimoto is rescued by an elderly couple living in a lighthouse. The couple's daughter is missing, so he decides to help her find her while traveling.
He says he'll take the photo that was hanging there as a clue, and tells them that he put his own photo in the empty frame instead. When the elderly couple return home, they are shocked to see the photo...

Enonoka, a Sakhalin Ainu girl

Enonoka
After receiving information from Frep Honpo that Asirpa had gone to an Ainu village, Sugimoto and his friends head into the forest. The Ainu girl they meet is not Asirpa, but a Sakhalin Ainu girl named Enonoka.

When Enonoka sees Chikashipa, she says she saw an Ainu girl from Hokkaido, so they decide to travel together. As they travel together, Chikashipa and Enonoka are attracted to each other. Chikashipa's encounter with Enonoka will greatly change her fate.

New prisoner, Yoichiro the Assassin

Yoichiro the Assassin
Hijikata and his team were gathering information in Kushiro, and they found a prisoner named Shinzo Doi, relying on the beak of an Etupirika found in Abashiri Prison. Doi escaped from Abashiri Prison and worked at a fishing ground in Nemuro. Doi, an old man who can barely do his job, is told to leave the fishing ground. An assassin appears, aiming for Doi, but when he is asked, "Are you Yoichiro the Assassin?", he immediately kills the assassin. Hijikata was also there. Hijikata and Doi had faced each other before, and the two would cross swords again.

The Immortal Sugimoto Harakiri Show

The Captivating Koito
Sugimoto and his friends met Yamada, the leader of the Yamada Circus Troupe. To let Asirpa know that he is alive, he decides to perform in Karafuto. Koito shows incredible talent and is called a "genius of acrobatics" by the leader, but Tsukishima thinks that this will make Sugimoto's Harakiri Show less noticeable, so he scatters photos of Lieutenant Tsurumi during Koito's performance. Tsukishima thought Koito would be upset and fail, but it had the opposite effect. Koito captivates the audience with his overwhelming performance. Will the Sugimoto Harakiri Show be a success?!

Tanigaki tries his best

Burglary Tanigaki
Tanigaki and Tsukishima are told by the troupe leader that they have no talent for acrobatics, so they are told to join the "Girls' Troupe" that dances alongside the acrobatics. The two are scolded harshly by choreographer Fumie. Tsukishima comforts Tanigaki who is crying outside, but the reason Tanigaki is crying is because he can't dance well and is a burden to the girls' troupe... Tanigaki, who knows that this performance is Beniko-senpai's last performance, will do his best. At the end, Fumie-sensei says while smoking a cigarette, "Genjiro! I'm glad for you." I'm glad your efforts paid off, Genjiro! !

Kiroranke was wanted

Kiroranke
Asirpa and the others try to enter Russia by disguising themselves as Uilta, but are suddenly shot by a sniper. Thanks to Ogata's efforts, they escape, but Asirpa and her friends find out why they were targeted. Kiroranke assassinated the Russian emperor with Wilk when he was 15 years old and was wanted by the police. Asirpa gets closer to the truth. Asirpa thinks and learns a lot on her journey to Sakhalin, such as why her father became a faceless man and what to do with the cursed gold.

Ogata Hyakunosuke's Past

Ogata in the Past
Ogata had a younger brother named Yusaku, who was a brave and excellent flag bearer. Ogata, suspicious of Yusaku's failure to kill any Russians, orders him to kill the captured Russians. Yusaku, who has always followed his father's instructions to "never kill anyone," refuses to kill, saying, "Everyone feels guilty when they kill someone." Ogata replies, "There's no such thing," and later, following the advice of Lieutenant Tsurumi, shoots and kills Yusaku, who is leading the soldiers as a flag bearer. What was Ogata thinking when he killed his brother? There seems to be a deep darkness behind Ogata's actions and feelings.

First time eating hinna

Ogata as hinna
Ogata had always refused to say "chitatap" when making chitatap, and Asirpa had scolded him many times. Even when everyone was saying "hinna, hinna," Ogata was silently eating. Asirpa was touched when Ogata said "hinna" for the first time. Perhaps Ogata's feelings have changed as they spend their time together.

Shiraishi, the man, to fulfill his promise

Running Shiraishi
Shiraishi remembers that Kiroranke is wanted and the story of Inkarma, and suggests to Asirpa that they run away together. However, Asirpa chooses to go with Kiroranke to find out the truth. Kiroranke, who was listening to the story, breaks up with Shiraishi, saying that there is no need for him to follow him. Shiraishi, who felt that he was carrying different burdens than Asirpa, breaks up with him for a while, but remembers his promise to Sugimoto, who said he would risk his life to "take care of Asirpa," and runs to Kiroranke and the others.

Shiraishi's Amulet

Penis Amulet
Shiraishi was given a Uilta amulet called "Sewa", which is a talisman for the male genitalia of children. Apparently, after visiting a brothel, Shiraishi's penis sometimes hurts. Apparently, this amulet was given to him because he stared at a woman feeding a baby. Shiraishi, who was about to fall off the ice floe, uses this amulet to save himself... but it breaks immediately (lol)

Sofia Golden Hand, the mastermind behind the assassination of the Russian emperor

Sofia
Sofia is held in Ako Prison. She is a righteous thief who commits crimes repeatedly to raise funds for her activities, and is nicknamed "Golden Hand" in court. Sofia knows about Wilk, which even Kiroranke does not know, and Kiroranke tries to arrange a meeting between Asirpa and Sofia. Sophia, who had been in contact with Kiroranke through letters written using milk, learns that Kiroranke has returned and takes action. Knowing Wilk's past, it is no exaggeration to say that she is an important character in the third season.

Young Sophia

Young Sophia
Sophia is now a big guy, but when she was young, she was very beautiful and was the object of admiration for Wilk and Kiroranke. By the way, even when Kiroranke meets the current Sophia, he praises her, saying, "She has become an extremely beautiful woman." As he said somewhere before, Kiroranke likes plump women.

Svetlana, the daughter of an elderly couple

Svetlana
The daughter of the elderly couple living in the lighthouse was imprisoned in Akou Prison along with Sophia. Svetlana escaped when Sophia and the others escaped, but she ended up sitting down with nowhere to go. Tsukishima scolded her, saying, "At least tell them you're alive!" His words resonated with her, and she promised to write a letter to her parents, make a name for herself in St. Petersburg, and bring them over.

Rinichiro Sekiya, a prisoner who uses poison

Rinichiro Sekiya
Sekiya uses poison to imprison Ushiyama and Hijikata. Sekiya, who lost his daughter to a lightning strike, began to wonder why it wasn't him, whether "luck" is God's will, and whether God exists to allow a person like him to survive. Sekiya began to like "trials", which are tests of luck that put one's life on the line, and he also gives trials to Kadokura. Hijikata escapes on his own through a miracle of courage and experience, and kills Sekiya. Sekiya did not believe in God, but after seeing Hijikata's miracle, he acknowledged the existence of God and died.

Koichi Hasegawa, who knew Sophia and Kiroranke

Hasegawa
Hasegawa left Japan for Russia as a teenager and lived as a photographer in Vladivostok. He takes in Wilk and his friends, who have been on the run for over 10 years since the assassination of the Russian emperor, and teaches them Japanese. Wilk and his friends were living a peaceful life, but the secret police visit Hasegawa's house. Wilk and his friends thought they had finally been found, but the secret police were pursuing a Japanese man... Koichi Hasegawa. He was a Japanese spy, and Wilk and his friends, who were with him, didn't realize it. What is his true identity...?!

Sugimoto and Asirpa Reunite

Sugimoto and Asirpa Reunite
Asirpa is in a desperate situation, pursued by Ogata. Then an arrow pierces Ogata's right eye! ! Sugimoto finally reaches Asirpa. Sugimoto, who will not kill even Ogata, pulls out the arrow and tries to save Ogata in order to make Asirpa abide by his rule of not killing. Asirpa clings to him in a touching reunion and refuses to let go. Sugimoto urges her to leave soon to pursue Kiroranke, but the reason she won't let go is because her eyelids are stuck to the button. At the end, they melt the ice with Shiraishi's urine, which is a typical scene of the trio of Sugimoto, Asirpa, and Shiraishi.

Kiroranke's Death

Kiroranke's Death
Asirpa remembers everything thanks to Kiroranke. Kiroranke, who brought Asirpa all the way here for the sake of his friends, dies thinking that the detour was not in vain. In the end, Kiroranke himself did not ask if it was he who ordered Wilk's death, but this death prompted Asirpa to think about what she should do.

A New Journey

The Two of Us Running
Shiraishi, who had been listening to Koito and Tsukishima's conversation from behind the scenes, became more suspicious of Lieutenant Tsurumi. He makes fun of Sugimoto for handing over Asirpa and becoming Lieutenant Tsurumi's dog, and attacks Sugimoto, asking how much of the gold he will get. He may be sincere about the money, but Shiraishi has seen Asirpa grow up during their journey to Sakhalin, and thought that if Asirpa is going to fight with everything on her shoulders, he should trust her and let her fight. He also thought that by doing so, Sugimoto himself would be able to return to his old, fierce self. He also advises him on whether Lieutenant Tsurumi is really thinking about the Ainu. Shiraishi is unreliable in some ways, but he is a reliable comrade who cares about Sugimoto and Asirpa after all. Lieutenant Tsurumi intended to imprison Asirpa in a basement whose existence is unknown. Asirpa wonders why Asirpa is not with Sugimoto, and wonders if she will be imprisoned. He says that the Ainu who are still alive will decide how to use the Ainu gold, and fires a volley of poisoned arrows. Sugimoto and Asirpa take advantage of the confusion to escape. Their journey to find the gold starts anew.

The third season of the anime, Sugimoto's advance party's operation to recapture Asirpa! What should we pay attention to? Summary

Live and shine
What did you think?

I think the story up to this point will probably be animated in the third season. There are many parts that get to the heart of the story, so I can't wait for the anime to air. If you haven't read the original work up to the second season, it might be a good idea to review it before the third season begins.
