In The Wise Man's Grandson, the protagonist, Shin, is a reincarnated person who boasts extraordinary strength. His initial goal is to make friends with people his age and learn common sense when he enrolls in a magic school. The environment he was in before enrolling in the magic school was also the secret to his strength. In this article, we will introduce the environment in which Shin grew up and the people around him until he was 15 years old.

When Shin was still a baby, the carriage he was riding in was attacked by a monster. Merlin happened to be passing by. Shin's parents had died, so Merlin raised him as her own grandson. When he was 10 years old and defeated the demonic bear, he told Shin that he was not his real grandfather. In fact, Shin already knew this at the time, but his exquisite response created a very touching scene.

Merida also thinks of Shin as a grandson. She is, in fact, the ex-wife of the wise man Merlin. The reason for their breakup has yet to be revealed. In addition to defeating demons, he also popularized the use of magical tools to support everyday life, and as a result he came to be known as the Guru out of respect. When Shin came to Earlshide to enroll in magic school, the three of them ended up living in the house that Merlin and Merida had originally bought at the time.

Merida then teaches Shin the art of blessing magic. Although there is a character limit for describing the effects of blessing magic, Shin uses his intuition to cast a variety of useful spells. Shin also developed an original skill at a young age that allows him to remove enchantments and replace them with new ones. Incidentally, when Shin attached new enchantments to his magic school uniform, it had already become a national treasure-class piece of armor.

Michelle, Shin's martial arts master and whom he calls "Uncle Michelle," was actually the Grand Master of the Knights. He was once known as the Sword Saint. He was helped by Merida and Merlin when he was young, and after retiring from the Knights he taught Shin martial arts. It is thanks to his intense training that Shin's martial arts and swordsmanship are so unusually strong.

An uncle who frequently visits our house. We call him Uncle Dis, but he's actually the king of the Earlshide Kingdom. Merida and Merlin helped Shin when they were defeating the demons, and since then he has been coming to Merlin's place to complain about politics. Thanks to Merlin's idea, Shin enrolls in the Earlshide Kingdom's Rising Magic School. Incidentally, Diseum is also a graduate of the magic school.
Military Use of Shin

When Shin turned 15, Diseum witnessed his power and feared that if things continued as they were, other countries would try to recruit him as a military force and start a war. To that end, he encouraged Shin to enroll in his country's magic school, but at the same time, he promised Merlin that he would never use Shin for military purposes. However, later on, Shin begins to take part in more and more battles against demons. Isn't this for military purposes?? Merlin, for one, didn't know this and was enthusiastic about taking part in the demon subjugation.

Marquez, who has an undeniable flirtatious vibe, also came to hang out with Diseum. Shin calls him "Brother Sieg," but he's a magician belonging to the Royal Court Magic Division and was Diseum's guard. Although he's quite close friends with Shin, he doesn't seem to be as strong as Shin or the members of the Ultimate Magic Research Society. Also, it seems he can't have Shin teach him magic, as it would be for military use.

A girl who is always arguing with Zeke. Shin calls her "nee-chan Chris," but she's also a Diseum guard. She's a knight belonging to the Imperial Guard. Both Zeke and Chris excelled since their school days, and are actually famous enough to have their own fanbases. As Chris also describes Shin as being out of the ordinary, it seems that her strength is still within the realm of common sense. It also seems that Chris is not okay with Shin teaching him swordsmanship.
Shin's Growing Up Environment: Finally

The secret to Shin's strength lies primarily in three people: the wise man Merlin, the guide Merida, and the sword master Michelle. Furthermore, Shin's memories and knowledge from his previous life are deeply connected to his growth, the generation of magic, and the creation of the world. The protagonist, Shin, has become stronger than human common sense. Perhaps the reason he was able to grow up so well even without parents was because he was in such a good environment.
