The second episode of the anime series The Wise Man's Grandchild has been released. From the first episode, I was impressed by the wise man's voice. He perfectly balances the protagonist Shin's painfully unstoppable nature. This time, I'll summarize my thoughts on episode 2 of The Wise Man's Grandchild, along with a brief introduction to the voice actor of the wise man, Merlin Walford.
Outline of Episode 2
Raised by a wise man, Shin enrolls in the Earlshide Kingdom's High School of Magic to learn common sense and make friends his own age. He achieves top marks in the entrance exam. Episode 2 smoothly depicted Shin's overwhelming success in the entrance exam and his sudden rapport with Sicily. It also featured a conflict with Sicily's self-proclaimed fiancé, Kurt, who kept getting in his way. It also featured Shin becoming closer to the prince, Aug.
Yusaku Yara
The voice actor for the sage Merlin Walford is Yusaku Yara. He also voices Hiroshi, the father of Chibi Maruko-chan, and Nurikabe in GeGeGe no Kitaro. He's a fantastic voice actor, perfectly able to combine a deep, dandy voice with a goofy voice like Hiroshi, making this story even more interesting. He's also the voice actor who voices Arnold Schwarzenegger's Japanese in the dubbed version.
Shin's unrivaled strength in Episode 2
Shin already seems incredibly strong. While he's been mentioned somewhat since episode 1, Shin's unrivaled abilities this time around include:
・The uniforms with enchantments are national treasure-worthy
・Simply unrivaled magic in the entrance exam
・Unrivaled love for Sicily
・Unrivaled elements in Gate
Anything goes.
Unrivaled Speech
Unfortunately, Shin's unrivaled speech, delivered as the top representative for the new students, was cut. He mixed in some simple jokes in his speech, which is completely unheard of. Despite the teasing from those around him, Uncle Dis's subsequent speech was a heartwarming moment, incorporating humor flexibly... Well, I can kind of see why it was cut.
Regarding Enchantment
In the world of The Wise Man's Grandchild, enchantment is subject to character limits depending on the material. The better the material, the greater the character limit, allowing for more possibilities. However, the language of this world is lengthy and characters are used up quickly, so Shin uses kanji to enchant. The effect of enchantment is not determined by the characters themselves; rather, when enchanting, you must visualize the effect.
From here on, the flirting with Sicily will likely continue for a while. Let's just hope the art doesn't fade! Either way, I'm already looking forward to episode 3!
