"Spy Classroom" is based on a light novel and tells the story of a group of girls who are recruited as spies and team up to do great things. The original work has been a huge hit, with over one million copies sold, and the anime is garnering attention as a second season will air in July 2023, following the first season. Since there is still some time until the second season, some people may be worried that they will have forgotten what happened in the first season. So, today we would like to take a look back at the first season! We will look back on it while picking out some important scenes!
Synopsis 1: The Gathered Girls
The War of Light has ended, and the War of Darkness has begun. Klaus, a skilled, top-tier spy, establishes a new spy team, "Light," to take on difficult missions that are considered impossible. The team members are a group of teenage girls, including Lily, codenamed "Hanazono." The girls were attending a spy training school, but all had been kicked out of the school for various reasons, making them "dropouts." Furthermore, their instructor, Klaus, is a genius who can accomplish anything by instinct, making him unable to teach effectively. Sarah, a member of the team, surmises that the reason they were gathered together as underdogs was to be used as expendable pawns. While the rest of the team was disheartened, Lily resolved that she couldn't just die, and decided to carry out a plan on her own.
Synopsis 2: Lily's Surprise Attack
One day, Lily suggested to Klaus that they go out together. While exploring the town, the two ended up on a boat by the water. This is where Lily's surprise attack began. She unleashed poisonous gas on the boat, cornering Klaus, who had no way to escape. She possessed a unique constitution that allowed her to withstand the poisonous gas. Believing she would not be able to obtain the technology necessary to carry out the impossible mission from Klaus, Lily attempts to threaten him and disband the team. However, Klaus notices her plan and corners her instead. While Lily's plan ultimately fails, Klaus gains a training hint: forcing someone to surrender is the best training. From then on, the members of Akari use every trick in the book to defeat Klaus.
Synopsis 3: The First Impossible Mission
Team Akari is tasked with their first impossible mission. The mission is to recover biological weapon samples stolen by the Galgad Empire. Homura, once said to be the strongest spy team, attempted this mission in the past but was annihilated, with Klaus being the team's sole survivor. Lily and the others infiltrate and encounter Guido, a former member of Homura and Klaus's mentor. They discover that he, who they thought was dead, had actually betrayed Homura. The girls are overwhelmed by Guido's high fighting ability, but a certain strategy works and they succeed in defeating him. Light is then disbanded, but with a new purpose in mind, Klaus decides to keep it going.
Synopsis 4: The Second Impossible Mission
Klaus is ordered to take his teammates on an impossible mission to eliminate the assassin "Shi" hiding within the country. Concerned about the girls, Klaus has been carrying out multiple missions himself, but trusting Grete's excellent disguise skills, he selects Lily, Grete, Sivia, and Sara from his team to take on the mission. The mission is to investigate the background of their target, Senator Uwe. Lily, Sivia, and Grete infiltrate the mansion as maids, while Klaus and Sara provide support from outside. Uwe is in charge of welfare policy and is a very difficult man who hates waste and complains about every single thing he cooks. Sibia realizes that his frugal lifestyle, at the expense of himself, has caused him to become vitamin deficient and developed a taste disorder. Furthermore, with Klaus' advice, it is discovered that he also suffers from night blindness. Worried about Uwe, Sibia manages to persuade him, explaining that he still needs at least some security and a driver. Meanwhile, Grete disguises herself as an assassin and plans to expose him by attacking the mansion.
Synopsis 5: The End of the Battle
Through Grete's strategy, they discover that head maid Olivia is an accomplice of the Corpse. While initially friendly, Oliver gradually reveals her true colors, which Grete becomes suspicious of. When Uwe is attacked, she pretends to run over to him, intending to kill him with a glass hidden in her hand. Furthermore, Klaus, who appears during this mission, is actually Grete in disguise, a trap set to deter would-be assassins. The real Klaus leads the remaining four members to eliminate the Corpse. In other words, those four were the true selected group. By the time the real Klaus arrived, the corpse had already been captured, and Olivia, who tried to escape, was quickly captured as well, and the mission was successfully completed.
Synopsis 6: Save the Meat Pie Shop! And then...
With Klaus away, the group decides to have a dinner party before their vacation. However, when they head to the meat pie shop to buy groceries, for some reason, it's closed. According to the shop owner, the president of Mannheim asked to share his meat pie recipe, but when he refused due to poor terms, Grete harassed him. Grete has a strong attachment to the recipe, as it's Klaus's favorite dish, and the other members joined in, coming up with a plan to take down the president of Mannheim. The plan was a spectacular success, but then, unsettling developments began to appear in "Kagerou Palace," where the girls live. Monica pointed a gun at Tia, urging her to make a choice. What on earth happened...?!
