The protagonist of this work, Ayano is a first-year high school student. She is petite, standing at 151 cm tall. Ayano's mother, Uesaki Uchinaga, is a 10-time consecutive winner of the All Japan Women's Singles Badminton Championship, and as a result of her influence, she began playing badminton at a young age. She has natural talent, and when she was a junior high school student, she even beat high school student Aragaki Nagisa. Aragaki Nagisa is the secondary protagonist of the series, a third-year high school student and captain of the Kitakomachi High School girls' badminton club. She is tall at 174 cm, has short hair, and has an androgynous voice. She loves badminton and is hardworking, stoic, and competitive. In the past, she lost to Hanesaki Ayano, who was a middle school student at the time, in the All-Japan Junior Championships, and subsequently fell into a slump. However, with advice from badminton club coach Tachibana Kentaro, she was able to overcome her slump and reform her attitude as captain of Kitakomachi High School. Hamada Kosuke, the original author of "Hanebado!", has a strong attachment to Nagisa and has stated that she is a character that people can empathize with.

He is 170 cm tall. In contrast to fellow male club member Hayama Yukiteru, he is quiet. However, he seems to be the type to talk a lot with his younger sister, Isehara Sora. He has also made it to the top four in the Kanagawa Prefecture qualifying individual singles tournament.

A first-year high school student, she serves as the manager of the Kitakomachi High School badminton club. She is mature in both appearance and personality, and is characterized by her long, black hair. She is a childhood friend of the main character, Uesaki Ayano, and has always been a close observer of Ayano playing badminton. It was Elena who pulled Ayano back into badminton after she had stopped playing, and she also protects Ayano when Tachibana Kentaro persistently pressures her to join the badminton club, so she also has a motherly side to her.
