Have you heard of the popular comic "Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun"? It's a school fantasy comedy currently being serialized in Weekly Shonen Champion. The original author is Nishi Osamu. It's a slapstick comedy set in a demon school. It's gained popularity for its fast-paced gags and cute illustrations, and an anime adaptation is scheduled to begin in October of this year. In this article, we'll be introducing the "Ring of Gluttony," the ring worn by Suzuki Iruma, the main character of "Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun." It's like a partner to Iruma-kun, but what exactly does it mean? Let's take a look now!
[Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun: What is the Gluttony Ring?
The protagonist, Iruma Suzuki, is the only human to enter the Demon Realm. He is a 14-year-old boy who arrived there by chance and is attending a demon school. He wears a "Gluttony Ring" on his finger, which allows him to absorb, store, and release magical power. Those around him seem to recognize the magical powers of the ring as part of his true abilities. However, he seems to think that relying on this magical power is unfair, and only uses it when absolutely necessary to chant a spell. Incidentally, when he was promoted to Gimel (3), this Ring of Gluttony gave birth to an ego. He named it "Ari-san" and they have a partner-like relationship.
More Specifics!
It has the ability to absorb the magical powers of others. Initially, it lacked an ego, but gained one when Iruma was promoted to Gimel (3). Because of its deep knowledge of magic, it educates and teaches Iruma about it. Furthermore, after the ego was born, they became partners and in a master-disciple relationship. Incidentally, when Iruma used the transformation spell on him, he appeared as a one-eyed gentleman in a tuxedo. His appearance is truly "devilish!" Because it would cause quite a commotion if his true identity were revealed to those around him, he is cautious and avoids appearing in public until safety is assured.
Good Friends with Iruma
He calls Iruma "Iru-bo" and calls him "Ari-san." They seem to be very close. He once cast a personality-altering spell on Iruma, putting him into "Iruma" mode, causing a major uproar. While he was angry about the incident, he used his powers to prevent the collapse of Walter Park. As a fantasy element, the ring itself is exciting enough, but the fact that the ring has a self-awareness and even converses with the protagonist is a dreamlike development, isn't it?
What is a Rank?
When Iruma-kun attained the rank of Gimel, the Ring of Akuguri gained a self-awareness. Rank here refers to the rank among demons. A strict hierarchy maintains order in the demon world. Students at the Demon Academy aim to increase their rank through exams and activities within the school. There are 10 ranks: Aleph (1), Beto (2), Gimel (3), Daleth (4), He (5), Vau (6), Zain (7), Keto (8), Hed (9), and Yod (10). This means Iruma-kun is currently at rank 3.
[Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun] What is the "Iruma" caused by the Gluttony Ring?
The protagonist, Iruma-kun, actually has another personality. It's called "Iruma." The feeling has changed to "demon."
What kind of personality is it?
This is Iruma-kun's other personality, born from the "personality-altering magic" used by the Gluttony Ring "Ari," which has gained a sense of self. His first-person pronoun has also changed to "ore." His facial features are also different, with sharper eyes and a rougher tone of voice. Furthermore, their personalities are complete opposites, as he is assertive and can even resort to violence. However, they share the same kind-hearted nature, unable to refuse requests from others. Incidentally, those around him mistake this personality for his bad cycle (a periodic cycle in which he feels the urge to commit a crime or experience some other dangerous urge). Dissatisfied with the treatment he received in the problem children's class, the entire class overcomes Karuego's difficult challenge. In doing so, they gain the school's sanctuary, the "King's Classroom." Despite all that happened, this commotion becomes the catalyst for deepening the bond between Iruma and the problem children's class.
The complete opposite of the usual Suzuki Iruma
It's amazing how just by becoming "Iruma," his personality completely changes. Iruma is an extremely kind-hearted person. Raised by troubled, overly free-spirited parents, he has an extremely strong ability to accept things. This allows him to forgive anything that happens, making him, in a sense, overly generous (?). While he can be described as kind, it's clear that he's also suffered greatly. Originally from the human world, he was sold to the demon world after his parents made a pact with the devil. Sullivan took a liking to him and adopted him as his grandson. He also has a deep-rooted inability to refuse requests, a trait he continues to cherish even in the Demon Realm.
Seems to be doing well
At first, Iruma-kun was confused when he was sent to the Demon Realm, but perhaps due to his inherent pacifism, he seems to have switched to a desire to "get along well here." The fact that the Gluttony Ring has gained a sense of self and become like a companion is likely a great support for him. We're looking forward to seeing how things develop.
