Four years have passed since the second season ended with a fierce battle between ghouls and CCG, leaving some mysteries unsolved, and "Tokyo Ghoul" has finally returned to the TV anime! In this article, we will introduce the plot and parts that were not explained in detail in the anime.

Episode 4 Auction MAIN

Synopsis

After successfully extracting information from Nutcracker, Mutsuki has learned the details of the next auction. [CCG] decides to use this opportunity to carry out a large-scale operation to wipe out ghouls, and Mutsuki and Juuzou volunteer to infiltrate the venue as "products." On the day of the event, the venue is bustling with many ghouls, including exhibitors, customers, and members of "Aogiri Tree" who Big Madame has hired as bodyguards. Separated from Juuzou and cut off from the outside world, Mutsuki is unable to hide her agitation as she is put up for auction...

Kano, a member of Aogiri Tree

The mad scientist who transplanted Rize's organs and turned Kaneki into a half-ghoul It can be said that it all started with Kano Akihiro. Finally, an important figure has appeared. Moreover, he is a member of Aogiri Tree. Considering that he appeared together with Owl this time, Kano is using Aogiri's power to transplant ghoul organs into humans, turning them into half-ghouls. In other words, it can be assumed that he is transforming humans into half-ghouls.

Owl's true identity

Before the battle to defeat the One-Eyed Owl, Takizawa wrote in his will that he "didn't want to die" in a good way. It made me feel his strong desire to live. In season 2, the suicide note seemed like a death flag, but this time it was connected to him living even as a half-ghoul, so I think "Tokyo Ghoul" is a really deep production.

Aogiri Tree's Goal

One of the reasons Aogiri joined that battle (the battle at the auction) may have been to recover the injured CCG investigator. When he joins the team as a half-ghoul, the CCG investigators, who are more used to fighting than ordinary people, are a valuable fighting force. Also, as in the plan he used in the first season to lure CCG investigators into a shopping mall and blow up the building, Aogiri is thought to have a very cruel and efficient way of fighting.

Impressions on Episode 4

I thought Torso would attack Tohru, but it turned out to be a help situation... Another thing that was unexpected was the feelings he had towards Big Madame. Although he only said the word "Mama," it felt like a word filled with nostalgia, not hatred. I think this is a word that comes from having made a break with the past.

Episode 5: Falling Night Pres

Synopsis

The auction hall is in chaos due to Juuzou's surprise attack. The CCG troops who were waiting there rush in. In the midst of the chaos, Mutsuki manages to escape, but is relentlessly pursued by Kanae von Rosewald, a ghoul who serves the Tsukiyama family, and finds himself in a difficult position. Haise and the rest of the Quinx Squad rush to Mutsuki's aid, but...!? Meanwhile, the CCG investigators are carrying out a sweep operation when they find themselves faced with an unexpected struggle against Nutcracker, whose fighting power exceeds the reported rating, and a member of Aogiri Tree called "Owl," a "half-ghoul."

The reason why Owl (Takizawa Masamichi)'s personality changed so drastically

What happens when a CCG investigator who has risked his life to fight ghouls becomes a half-ghoul? Along with his human body, he also loses his belief in exterminating ghouls. But in order to survive, he must accept his half-ghoul self and the ghoul way of life (eating humans) that he was targeted for extermination. So, Takizawa may have abandoned his human heart and created a mind and way of thinking that makes it easier to live as a half-ghoul so that he would no longer feel pain from living.

Uta takes out the Arima mask

"Take, wait" At first, I don't understand what it means, but this is Uta wearing the Arima mask that she formed with her kagune to protect herself from attacks from the CCG. Uta wearing Arima's mask may be a hint that Uta and Arima are connected. It feels like they both have a hidden agenda...

Hinami's abilities

Hinami may have a communication ability (something like telepathy?). Hinami and Ayato keep in touch even when they are apart, but Ayato does not seem to be carrying anything that looks like a communication device. And while Hinami and Ayato communicate without using their hands, CCG investigators always hold their hands over their ears when communicating.

Technique inherited from Irimi

Also, in the last episode, there was a scene where Hinami picked up multiple voices and grasped the situation, but I think this is an application of Irimi, a member of Anteiku in the first season, who was able to detect the movements of people in a building just by sound.

Urie ignores orders for his own glory, and Washuu gives orders knowing that. The two of them seem to get along well. Battles here and there, battles everywhere, battles galore was episode 5. In the midst of all this, there were many surprising elements, such as Owl (Takizawa)'s personality collapse, Uta suddenly turning into Arima, and the appearance of a hidden kagune.

Episode 6: Turn

Synopsis

Roku and his guard Urie, who have left the front line, discover many ghouls trying to escape using a shortcut. Together with Juzo, who has reached them by a different route, they rush into the battle. Standing in their way is Big Madam, who has a deep connection with Juzo.

Meanwhile, Haise is working with Shirazu and the others to eliminate the Nutcrackers, but he is ordered by the quasi-special agent Washuu Masashi, who is in charge of the operation, to face Owl alone, who is blocking their path. Owl is Takizawa Masamichi, a former colleague of Haise's superior, Mado Akira, who was forced to undergo ghoul surgery. He shows his rivalry towards Haise, who is in a similar situation to himself, and corners him with fierce attacks.

From Haise to Kaneki

Kaneki had awakened to his ghoul abilities after being subjected to brutal torture, but Sasaki released his abilities out of a desire to "protect" him. It's so Sasaki-like that Kaneki is included among the people he wants to protect...or rather, as Hinami said, I get the feeling that Sasaki is still Kaneki too.

Quinx Squad Relationships

Urie deserves what he gets, but he is also pitiful, and it would be nice if someone like Mutsumi who understands him showed up to help him out somehow... but Mutsumi also has a troublesome problem. On the other hand, Shirazu and Saiko support each other wonderfully (or rather, Shirazu really pulls her along), so they can be said to be a soothing duo within the Quinx squad.

The existence of Owl

Owl, remembering Mado, says, "The difference between first place and second place, the difference between 100 points and 99 points is not one point. Are you Kano-sensei's greatest work? Let's find out." and Haise strangles him. This line is hard to ignore, and it becomes clear that Kano sensei was intentionally creating half-ghouls.

Reason for cutting off the broadcast

Haise and Owl fighting

Why did Associate Special Investigator Washuu stop Haise's screams from reverberating? Could it be because it would be inconvenient for people to know that Haise is Kaneki? Certainly, if it becomes known that Kaneki is nearby, the guys from Aogiri will undoubtedly come with all their might to recapture Kaneki. If Haise returns to Kaneki and rises up in rebellion against the CCG, the CCG may be annihilated. That is something that must be avoided. Perhaps that is why they deliberately cut off the broadcast to prevent the truth from being discovered.

The reason why Hinami helped Haise

Hinami helps Kaneki

To Hinami, Kaneki is an older brother who cared for her like a younger sister and doted on her after she lost her mother. There's no way she'll forget. Hinami realized that Haise was Kaneki because the two of them had a deep bond even though his appearance and personality had changed. It's a scene that makes you feel that they have formed a bond that is even greater than that of real siblings.

Kaneki and Haise

I think that if he turned around and faced him, he would be looking at a calm Kaneki, but I think that the fear of an unknown power due to his lack of memory is what creates that image. I feel that only when Kaneki, the symbol of the power of the ghouls, accepts the white, can they become part of the mixed ash.

Episode 6 Impressions

I never thought they'd play Unravel, so it was exciting! You can really tell that the director understands and loves the work.
By the way, who's inside me? The answer to this question comes from the first season, when Kaneki Black was transplanted with Rize Kamishiro and was like, "Who's inside me!?", and then he awakened to Kaneki White, who ate a gecko and thought, "There's a gecko inside me, too."

Summary

The appearance of the half-ghouls created by Kanou, the new way to use kagune, the awakening of Haise, and other important keywords for the future story development were all coming together. The story is likely to develop rapidly in episode 6.
