Mutsuki Tohru appears in Tokyo Ghoul:re. Many people say that his personality changes as the story progresses, making him scary! Rather than a change in personality, it feels like his hidden true nature is coming to light. This time, we'll focus on Mutsuki and review his actions so far, in preparation for the Mutsuki vs. Quinx battle in the next volume, Tokyo Ghoul:re Volume 15.
Firstly, who is Mutsuki Tohru?
A member of the Quinx, a group of hybrids with quinques, the weapons used by ghoul investigators, embedded directly in their bodies. Her kagune is a tail kagune. Although she is actually female, she hates being a woman and lives as a man. This is thought to stem from the sexual abuse she suffered at the hands of her father in the past. Among the Quinx, he is relatively sensible, warning fellow Quinxes Urie and Shirazu when they act independently. However, since they don't listen to him, he often gives up.
Doesn't like blood?! The timid investigator
He dislikes anything related to blood, and even eating it. In addition, her Rc value is low at 655, and she is unable to control her red eyes, so she always wears an eyepatch. She was unable to use her kagune until the end of the Human Auction arc. As a result, she fights using two knife-shaped quinques, Ifraft and Abxol. Even when dressed as a man, Mutsuki still retains a feminine side. She still had a bit of innocence about her back then, and it was adorable... (staring off into the distance)
She becomes predatory in the Human Auction Arc
While investigating Torso, a ghoul who only preys on women, Mutsuki's true identity is discovered by Torso, who relentlessly targets her. Then, disguised as a woman, he and Suzuya infiltrate the investigation of a ghoul named Nutcracker, but are bid on by the ghoul, sold to Torso, and then nearly kidnapped by Kanae, during which he is severely injured. While the auction was ultimately successful, Mutsuki says at the time, "I've had a bit of rest... I think I can move again..."
However, to heal from her injuries, Mutsuki preys on the corpses of investigators who have already been killed. She recovered thanks to the meat. However, her memories of this incident have been wiped from her mind. Her behavior is now typical of a ghoul...
Awakened after being abducted by Torso!
While conducting an undercover investigation on Ru Island, Aogiri's home ground, Mutsuki is caught off guard and abducted by Torso. Torso tears away Mutsuki's limbs, turning her into a Daruma doll. Spending her days with Torso, Mutsuki recalls her past. Her days of being sexually abused by her father and her mother pretending not to notice came to an end one day when a ghoul attacked her family. Or so she thought, but in fact, Mutsuki herself had brutally murdered the cat with an axe. After entering the academy, other students began to suspect Mutsuki of killing a cat. As she fled, she wept, saying, "I didn't kill any cats!" but clutched a jar of cat intestines in her hand. Mutsuki, now remembering everything, decided to have Torso kill her. When she regained consciousness, Torso was gone, her limbs had healed, and she was holding someone else's arm. She saw a man's torso in front of her and remembered it was Torso. Mutsuki smiled. Mutsuki's hair, which had previously been black, turned white on this day. It's exactly the same as Kaneki's awakening. Is there a connection?
Sasaki's love for Sasaki also spirals out of control during the Black Goat vs. Clown battle!
During the Clown Surprise Attack, he chases the fleeing Uta while instructing Shinzo. The moment he corners Uta, Uta assumes Sasaki's face and calls out Mutsumi's name, perhaps knowing of her feelings for him. Mutsumi is completely smitten (lol). In a close-up of Mutsumi's eyes, her pupils appear to be shaped like hearts. However, at that moment, she plunges a knife into Sasaki (Uta)'s throat, ripping her to shreds beyond recognition. There's also a scene where she's mesmerized by the mangled Sasaki (Uta), which I interpret as meaning "she's mine now." And then Mutsumi takes her in her arms. Mutsumi is a total psychopath now...
Excessive love even leads to the death of friends
In the Kouryuunogi arc, Mutsuki once again plots to get her hands on Sasaki (Kaneki). At :re, he reunites with Kaneki and Touka and begs them to return to the Quinx Squad. When they refuse, he attacks Kaneki and Touka, but lets them escape. Next, he sends a spy to the Black Goat, accusing Kuroiwa Yoriko of harboring a ghoul, using her as bait to lure them out. Using the spy's signal, he locates the Black Goat's base and brutally murders the ghouls. He also attempts to kill his love rival, Touka, but is defeated by Yomo. Although he survives thanks to his kagune, he later appears before Touka, who is searching for Kaneki's true form, and interferes. He corners Touka, but becomes enraged when Touka calls Kaneki "husband," and attempts to kill her. However, the Quinx arrive at that moment, and Kaneki becomes even more angry at having let Touka escape. At this point, the CCG has made it clear that it will cooperate with the ghouls. Urie and Saiko appear to stop Mutsumi, but it looks like this will be a battle between allies... Mutsuki also shows no signs of hesitation, saying, "I don't care what happens, you know," and is fully prepared to fight... Is there any way to stop her now?
Summary
Who would have thought she would change so much from the initially timid but sensible member of the Quinx Squad? I never dreamed that she was responsible for killing my cat and my parents, but perhaps this was her true nature...
