Because of his past training, his movements are readable and he is defeated by Sasaki, but he is freed when Kanae joins the fight. Even so, Kanae was cornered by the semi-out-of-control Sasaki, and just before he was killed, Tsukiyama mustered his remaining strength to stop Sasaki and pleaded with them to escape. The three of them were suddenly attacked by the One-Eyed Owl, and Tsukiyama, who was unable to move, heard Kanae's scream and recognized Sasaki who appeared before him at a glance as Kaneki. He was injured when Kaneki, who he had longed for, pierced his abdomen with his kagune.
