Kusuo has an older brother named Kusuke, who doesn't often appear in the anime because he usually lives alone away from his family. While Kusuo has psychic powers, Kusuke is just an ordinary human, but he has an exceptionally high IQ and has amassed vast wealth as a genius inventor. Psychic vs. genius inventor... Kusuke occasionally appears, jealous of the psychic Kusuo, and challenges him to a duel. This time, we'll introduce you to Kusuke, a key character in the story!
IQ 218! The genius inventor Kusuke has been a genius since childhood!
Like Kusuo, Kuusuke usually wears a strange device on his head, but in reality he's an incredibly talented inventor with an IQ of 218! His genius was evident from birth, as he was already able to speak shortly after birth and mastered basic reading, writing, and arithmetic at the age of two. He then skipped high school and studied abroad at Cambridge University. He now holds a PhD and has amassed a vast fortune (saving around 8 billion yen) through patents and other inventions.
Kuusuke was also the inventor of "that thing" on Kusuo's head.
Kusuo is known for the two devices stuck in his head, and these devices were also created by Kuusuke. The device on the left has the function of suppressing psychic powers and has been attached to Kusuo's head since he was in fifth grade. It is so important that if it were to come off, the world would be in danger of destruction, making it an indispensable item for Kusuo today. Even more problematic is the device attached to Kusuo's right side. If this device is removed, it will act as a detonator, spreading information about Kusuo throughout the world. Since childhood, Kusuo has been challenged to a competition to see if he can remove it.
What is the effect of that thing on Kusuo's head?
The device on Kusuo's head controls his psychic powers, but Kusuo, who is not a psychic, also wears a similar device. Unlike Kusuo's, it is a headband-like device that can be easily removed. This device is called a Telepath Canceller and has the effect of nullifying telepathy. In other words, it's a device worn solely for combat with Kusuo... This item was developed by Kusuke after studying Kusuo's telepathy, preventing Kusuo from hearing Kusuke's inner thoughts.
Kuusuke Has a Habit of Modifying People
As a child, Kuusuke already created control devices for Kusuo's head, and his habit of modifying things has escalated to the present day, eventually modifying even his grandfather. In reality, however, he was merely dramatically enhancing his physical abilities with a cyborg-style powered suit... His true purpose, however, was to carry out a project called Project GBG, ultimately using the elderly people he had won over with his convenient inventions as weapons to eliminate Kusuo. Incidentally, when a meteorite threatened to fall to Earth, he even dressed his father in a mecha suit to try and do something about it.
Even Teruhashi's beauty is no match for Kusuke! However...
Teruhashi's looks captivate men all over the world, even gods, but they have no effect on Kuusuke. He has no interest in anyone outside of his family and grandparents, and sees everyone as no more than a monkey. Kuusuke continues to look down on Teruhashi, calling her the "soft-shelled turtle" in the "Moon and the Soft-shelled Turtle" story, and even goes so far as to say she's no match for Kusuo, cornering him...
This won't end there. Teruhashi strikes back at the genius scientist!
Watching the two's exchange, Kusuo, unusually angry, realizes they've gone too far. However, Kusuo then warns him with a fearless smile, "Don't underestimate Teruhashi too much." Just as Kusuo said, Teruhashi refuses to back down! Humiliation for the first time in her life, she weeps fake tears in what she calls "The Ultimate Secret Technique of Beautiful Girls: Angel Tears," gathering a large group of men around her and chasing Kuusuke away. Seeing this, Kusuo muttered, "Even someone like that can't compete with Teruhashi."
Kusuke's voice actor is Kenji Nojima!
Kusuke is voiced by Kenji Nojima, a veteran voice actor with 23 years of experience. His long career includes playing numerous leading roles, including Wakaba in the popular "Kemurikusa" series and, going back a little further, Taihei Doma in "Himouto! Umaru-chan." Nojima is known for coming from a family of voice actors, with both his father and older brother working as voice actors. Incidentally, his older brother, Hirofumi, also voiced the character Nakamaru Kosaku in "The Disastrous Life of Saiki K." Both brothers participated in the series as voice actors.
Kuusuke and Kusuo, always fighting
Kusuo is usually cool and rarely shows his emotions, but his older brother, Kusuo, is the one he shows his emotions to and fights with. The two have often fought since they were children, and Kusuo is always careful with Kusuo, who always tries to get in his way. However, despite being a genius scientist, Kusuo is quite the masochist, who gets pleasure from the fact that he "cannot beat Kusuo," and even after losing a challenge to Kusuo, he revels in the fact that "Kusuo is the only one who can beat me."
They have some brother-sister qualities
Kuusuke is always fighting with Kusuo, and while Kusuo dislikes him, he just wants to beat him. He doesn't hate Kusuo, and there are many scenes where he treats him like a precious younger brother. Even during the incident with Teruhashi, he says, "He's on a different level," and "Kusuo is special." When he showed up for New Year's, he prepared a New Year's gift for Kusuo, just like a working older brother, and Kusuo happily accepted it as a younger brother.
Kuusuke vs. Kusuo. His battle record is...
At the age of three, Kuusuke was proudly riding his bicycle with training wheels, and it was there that he saw Kusuo riding a motorcycle next to him, and for the first time, he felt a sense of defeat. Since then, he challenged Kusuo many times, but he was never able to win, and at the age of 14, he decided to run away and study abroad. As for their battle record... Kuusuke's record is a whopping 0 wins and 4,254 losses! He's never even beaten Kusuo at rock-paper-scissors.
Summary of the Genius Scientist, Kuusuke Saiki
So far, what do you think of Kuusuke? Personally, what made him stand out more than his various inventions was his complete lack of reaction to Teruhashi. He's sure to play an important role in the Psi Start Arc, so I'm excited to see how he'll shake up the story, for better or worse.
