The upcoming broadcast of the Psi Start Arc is packed with highlights, including the appearance of new characters, but one thing we'd like to draw your attention to is the final arc, which tells the story after Kusuo seals his psychic powers after stopping the volcanic eruption! The final episode ended with Kusuo being startled and the window glass shattering, but the Psi Start Arc will apparently depict what happens to Kusuo after he seals his psychic powers. So, this time we'll take a look at the original comic to see what kind of story it will be, ahead of the anime! We'll also find out if his psychic powers have completely disappeared!
Kusuo and his classmates successfully advance to third year
After saving Japan from the eruption of Mt. Owari, Kusuo finally succeeds in advancing through time, successfully advancing from second year to third year. While some of his classmates accidentally ended up in second-year classrooms...the exceptionally foolish Nondo ended up going to middle school. This is no longer a matter of promotion. His new classmates are not only filled with the same old classmates from second year, but also include Toritsuka, making for a very interesting lineup.
The seating arrangement is terrible because he can't resist it with his psychic powers
Once the classes are decided, the first thing to happen is seating arrangements. In this class, seating order isn't decided by name, but by drawing lots...and naturally, Teruhashi ends up sitting next to Kusuo. Not only that, but sitting opposite him is Toritsuka, with Nondou sitting in front of him and Kaito, Saiko, and Kuboyasu all sitting behind him. Even though he couldn't use his psychic powers to change the seating arrangement, Kusuo is so shocked by the terrible seating arrangement that he can't help but ask, "Did you really discard the cards?"
Kusuo, who's not used to being spoken to after losing his psychic powers
Until now, Kusuo was able to predict what others would say and what they would say telepathically, but now that he's lost his psychic powers, he can no longer read their thoughts. Having lost his common sense and become truly "normal," Kusuo is startled every time someone suddenly speaks to him. He's frightened when Kaito speaks to him, and when Teruhashi changes her voice... In short, he's not used to being spoken to unexpectedly, and he's extremely frightened by anything that happens. Also, since he lost his X-ray ability, he gazed intently at Teruhashi's face up close, even conjuring the thought, "She's undeniably beautiful."
Kusuo is put in the same group as Teruhashi and finds herself resentful.
Early in their third year, Kusuo and his classmates began a class on the topic of "G7 countries outside of Japan," and they had to form groups. Once again, Kusuo and Teruhashi found themselves in a group alone. Still not used to "normal" life, Kusuo attempts to use his clairvoyance, levitation, and psychokinesis to gather materials. Then, a group of students appears, jealous of Teruhashi for being in the same group. They approach Kusuo in a threatening manner, and Kusuo tries to fight back, but he remembers the time the window suddenly shattered and fears his psychic powers will go out of control, so he holds back.
A bookshelf falls toward Kusuo! But then someone shows up to help...
The students leave when Teruhashi appears, but as Kusuo stands in front of a bookshelf, she knocks it over from behind, attempting to crush him. Kusuo quickly uses psychokinesis to avoid injury. However, thinking about it calmly, he realizes that his psychic powers are not working at the moment, so psychokinesis should not be activated. Realizing this, Kusuo looks up to see Nondo protecting him, blood streaming from his head. "I never thought someone would protect me..." Kusuo thanks Nondo. Afterward, the two men knocked over a bookshelf, but were purged by Kuboyasu, who witnessed the incident. However, when they put the bookshelf back in place, they discovered that there were an unusually small number of books...
Kusuo's Psychic Powers Are Starting to Return
His psychic powers are returning. When he confronts Kusuke, who created the neutralization device, he looks pleased. When Kusuo puts his hand on the wall, it collapses in the shape of his hand with power beyond what a normal human could imagine. However, Kusuo's psychic powers have yet to fully return, and Kusuo suggests that this may be due to "a process of evolution beyond that of a normal human being, in order to control his psychic powers." While Kusuo is confused, Kusuo thinks, "This is getting interesting." His psychic powers are gradually returning, to the point that Kusuo can even hear his thoughts telepathically.
Psychic Powers Gradually Return
Around this time, Kusuo's psychic powers begin to show signs of recovery. When he meets Nondo on his way to school, he uses his x-ray ability to instantly see him as a skeleton, he is able to use his clairvoyance to find the motorcycle keys that Kuboyasu has lost, the motorcycle keys suddenly appear from his mouth (although he is surprised by this and says "I've never known such an ability"), he suddenly becomes invisible and becomes invisible to those around him, and he communicates with Toritsuka telepathically...his many psychic powers are activated without him intending to use them. In a panic, Kusuo ends up teleporting home without thinking.
Kusuo's psychic powers are returning, and Kusuo receives a request from Kusuke
Kusuo returns home via teleportation, and Kusuke, whose psychic powers are returning, approaches him with a favor. However, Kusuo declines, stating, "I'm a human now," before even listening to his request. Kusuke then gives up and introduces his father, armed with mechanical weapons, as a hero. The country has asked Kusuo to stop a meteorite from falling to Earth. The entire country of Japan was scheduled to be destroyed in two hours.
A meteorite is falling. And Kusuo returns to being a psychic!
News of the meteorite falling spreads, causing panic throughout Japan. Still, Kusuo thinks, "I'm not a psychic, so there's nothing I can do." At that moment, the voices of his panicked friends, telepathically transmitted through their psychic powers, run through Kusuo's head. The last thing he hears is Teruhashi's inner cry: "I haven't let Saiki say 'whoa' yet," and "Do something, God!" Hearing this, Kusuo laughs a little, resolves to put on his trademark glasses, and finally mutters to himself, "My name is Saiki Kusuo. I have psychic powers," bringing the story to a true conclusion.
A Summary of What Happened to an Ordinary Human and Saiki Kusuo
So far, we've introduced the story of Kusuo after he loses his psychic powers. What did you think? Kusuo's peaceful, ordinary daily life was very short-lived (lol). Still, the only time you can enjoy the precious "powerless Kusuo" is in Psi Start-Up, so please look forward to it!
