The final new character to appear in "The Disastrous Life of Saiki K." is Suzumiya Yoi. At first glance, she appears to be one of the most beautiful girls in the series, but she has an incredibly big flaw: she is extremely unlucky. Her misfortune is so extreme that it not only affects her, but also those around her. This time, we'll introduce you to the series' most unlucky girl, Suzumiya Yoi.
When did Suzumiya Yoi first appear in the original work?
If you're wondering about Suzumiya Hii's first appearance, it was in Volume 24, Chapter 257 of the original manga. Incidentally, the final chapter of the manga (excluding the past arc) was Chapter 279, so this was a very close appearance for a new character. While a transfer student would normally be admitted to Kusuo's class, Hii's class is next to Toritsuka's. Toritsuka would be thrilled to have such a beautiful girl transfer to his school...or so you'd think, but something seemed a little off.
Suzumiya Hii is a girl with such bad luck that even Toritsuka is shocked.
Hii has been hit by such bad luck that even Toritsuka, who is known for being the most ruthless girl in the world, would be shocked. On her first day of school, she was hit by a hearse on the way to school, arriving at class covered in blood and injured. Since then, she introduced herself in blood because she didn't have any chalk, stepped in poop in the classroom, and ended up sitting next to Toritsuka. Her bad luck continues. Even so, at first, Toritsuka thought, "Unfortunate girls are cute," and, as always, harbored feelings for beautiful girls.
The result of taking on the role of Yoi-chan's caretaker...
After seeing her having a friendly conversation with Yoi-chan, who sat next to her, the teacher asked Toritsuka to be her caretaker, showing her around the school and so on. Naturally, Toritsuka accepted, but this is where Yoi-chan really showed her true colors. Toritsuka also got caught up in the misfortune, as the two were hit by a motorcycle, a meteorite fell from the sky, and then a sudden downpour hit them, ultimately resulting in them stepping in poop. Struck by a series of terrible misfortunes, Toritsuka turned to Saiki for help.
Suzumiya Yoi herself is unaware of her misfortune.
Living with such bad luck every day would surely lead to mental breakdown or a gloomy personality, but Yoi is generally cheerful. This is because she doesn't realize how unfortunate she is and thinks of herself as "clumsy." She believes that stepping in poop, being hit by a sudden downpour, and being hit by a meteorite are all the result of her own clumsiness, and describes herself as "clumsy, scatterbrained, and useless since childhood."
Suzumiya Yoi exudes an incredibly sinister aura
Using Aiboku's psychic powers, Kusuo and Aiboku discover that Yoi and Toritsuka clearly show signs of death, as if they were written in ink (so dark that they appear to be dead). They arrive at the science lab to help. However, by getting too close to Yoi, the signs of death become apparent to Kusuo and Aiboku as well. So Aihara asks Kusuo to erase her aura and checks it... and finds a demonic aura screaming hatred. He can't help but exclaim, "This is the Psychickers' biggest crisis yet."
Suzumiya Yoi: Not Just Luck, But Her Luck with Men Too
The reason Yoi and the rest of the Psychickers were showing signs of death was because of the nitroglycerin Yoi was holding in both hands. Although Kusuo manages to avert the explosion, the nitroglycerin he accidentally put in his pocket explodes. Thanks to Kusuo, he manages to avoid death, but at that moment, Toritsuka accidentally jumps on top of Yoi and blows her away. Yoi ends up being crushed under Toritsuka. However, Yoi mistakenly believes Toritsuka has risked his life to protect her, and with heart-shaped eyes, she falls in love with him, saying, "That was wonderful... Toritsuka-sama..."
Normal vs. Unlucky. The Power Balance Between Suzumiya Yoi and Sato-kun
Sato-kun is the epitome of "normal," with everything perfectly average. Yoi-chan is burdened with "great misfortune" that affects everyone around her. One day, the two end up sitting next to each other. Will Sato-kun, the normal person he so respects, be able to overcome this crisis? Kusuo watches them from outside the classroom.
Even Yoi-chan's misfortune doesn't shake Sato-kun's "normal" attitude!
He pours water from a fish tank over his head. The ceiling collapses, hitting him directly. Yoi continues to display her usual bad luck, but Sato, who is next to her, is also caught up in some misfortune, getting a little wet and getting crushed under rubble while shielding Yoi. Even Sato is no match for Yoi's misfortune... Kusuo thinks with a disappointed look on his face. However, it turns out that his good fortune is offsetting his bad luck, as he gets a glimpse of Yoi's see-through bra when she gets wet, and gets a head rest on his lap when she's crushed under the rubble. This makes Kusuo realize that Sato is the only person who can neutralize Yoi's misfortune.
Suzumiya Hii's guardian spirit is the root of everything
Toritsuka, who has the ability to see people's guardian spirits, realizes that Hii's guardian spirit is a terrible one when Kusuo asks, "Doesn't she have a guardian spirit?" Thinking that if he could do something about the guardian spirit, he could alleviate Hii's misfortune! With this in mind, Toritsuka and Kusuo teamed up to successfully rehabilitate the guardian spirit. This seemingly resolved Hii's misfortune. (Although, since Hii's role in the main story ends once she's rehabilitated, it's hard to say for sure...)
This person is the voice actor for Suzumiya Hii!
Hii's voice actor is the highly popular voice actress Nao Toyama! Her most recent work is Gina Boyd in "How Heavy Are the Dumbbells You Lift?". She also voiced Chitoge in "Nisekoi," another Jump manga. You can hear just one line of her lines on the official website, so if you're curious to hear what her voice is like, be sure to check it out first.
