From his first self-introduction, Akechi is an incredibly annoying character with his machine gun-like talk. Once he opens his mouth, he just keeps talking, making him one of the most annoying characters in The Disastrous Life of Saiki K. Akechi and Kusuo were childhood friends, a meeting that has a significant impact on Kusuo's personality today. This time, we'll be introducing Akechi's annoying side, from the present to the past!

Akechi first appeared in episode 18χ of the anime's second season!

Akechi Removes Speech Bubble

The Akechi we're introducing today first appeared in the anime's second season, episode 18χ. He's a transfer student who joined Kusuo's class midway through his second year of high school, and you'd think he'd be the center of attention among his classmates... but since there are already three other transfer students in the class (Kuboyasu, Saitora, and Aitori), it's become a regular occurrence, so his reaction is muted. Feeling overwhelmed by the sheer number of transfer students, Kusuo suggests killing Toritsuka, who previously transferred to the class next door, and turning it into a mystery drama.

Akechi starts talking from his self-introduction and never stops

Akechi's face obscured by speech bubbles

Akechi's most notable trait is his insane amount of dialogue! Once he starts talking, he never stops, and he continues talking incredibly fast. When he first appears, he introduces himself to the students, so he has a particularly long line. The volume and speed of his dialogue is so great that the speech bubbles can't keep up, filling the screen with dialogue, and his face isn't even shown.

Akechi's Extraordinarily Quick Mind

Akechi's Sharp Intuition

Akechi isn't just a fast talker; he's also an incredibly quick-witted character. For example, while he speaks at an incredible speed, he's thinking about something else. His keen observational skills and insight allow him to immediately recognize Kuboyasu's appearance and muscle mass as a former delinquent upon meeting him, showing his extraordinary side.

With his quick thinking, Akechi discovers that Kusuo is a psychic soon after transferring to the school.

Akechi Suspects Kusuo

Suspecting Kusuo as a psychic due to a past incident, Akechi immediately began asking around for information about Kusuo in search of evidence. The potato digging event arrived without any useful information. Realizing that Kusuo is afraid of insects, Akechi plots to use insects to unleash his psychic powers. Incidentally, during the potato digging event, Kusuo overcame a difficult situation by using his psychic powers to make Mera visible to him.

Akechi pees at every opportunity

Akechi always pees

Another tragic trait of Akechi's is his habit of peeing. In his first year of elementary school, a classmate grabbed him by the collar and threatened him, saying, "You'd better get away from me right now...or I'll have to tell you off..." while he peed in the classroom. The reason is, "When I get angry, I just can't help it." He also pees whenever he gets the chance, such as when he pees in the bath or when he drank too much juice at Kusuo's birthday party and wet himself.

Kusuo and Akechi Met in the First Grade of Elementary School

Kusuo as an Elementary School Student

The two first met in the first grade of elementary school. This was 12 years ago. Akechi peed himself "as usual" due to the tension and anxiety of the large crowd gathered at his elementary school entrance ceremony. It was Kusuo who accompanied Akechi to the bathroom. The two later became close when Kusuo helped Akechi, who was being bullied. Kusuo used his psychic powers to heal the injured Akechi and left the scene, but in the process he dropped his name tag, which led to Akechi suspecting him of being a monk.

Akechi had suspected Kusuo was a psychic since they were in elementary school.

Thinking that Kusuo might have healed his injury, Akechi asked Kusuo if he was a sage. However, after a certain incident, his suspicions changed from "sage" to "psychic." That incident was the "Fire Penis Incident." Takashi, the ringleader of Akechi's bullying at the time, was performing a propeller trick on the horizontal bar when Kusuo's psychic powers caused him to spin uncontrollably, resulting in burns to his groin. While everyone else rushed over to Takashi, Akechi was the only one who realized that Kusuo had used his psychic powers.

Realizing that Kusuo was a psychic, Akechi bluntly asked him, "You can use psychic powers, right?" Quite a few of the other students began to gather around Kusuo, paying attention to him. However, Kusuo's mother had told him to hide the fact that he was a psychic. So he showed his killer "silly face"! With an indescribable expression, he managed to get through the situation for the time being. Incidentally, even now, more than 10 years later, he still uses this silly face as a last resort when he's in trouble, and when he met Akechi again and was asked "Are you a psychic?", he made the same face and Akechi said it brought back memories.

Akechi finally learns the truth...

Surprised Akechi

Since Kusuo transferred to his school, Akechi has suspected he might be a psychic. For six months, he has been tailing him, investigating his behavior. One day, Akechi visits Kusuo's house to tell him about a mysterious phenomenon he witnessed. Kusuo attempts to escape by altering the past, but fails. Finally, cornered, he reveals to Akechi that he is a psychic. Akechi, who had said he wouldn't be surprised no matter what happens, looks completely shocked when he learns the truth, his legs shaking and his legs collapsing. Afterward, he thanks Kusuo, who had saved him from bullying in the past, and is subsequently welcomed into the Psychickers as a fellow member sharing the same secret.

The voice actor for Akechi is Yuki Kaji!

Akechi character introduction image

As many of you may already know from watching the second season of the anime, Akechi's voice actor is Yuki Kaji. He is an incredibly well-known voice actor who has voiced major characters in numerous anime, including Eren from "Attack on Titan" and Meliodas from "The Seven Deadly Sins." Some of his most popular characters include... Additionally, the voice actor for Akechi's elementary school years is Natsumi Fujiwara, who replaced Mayumi Tanaka as the lead Mao in "Shin Chuka Ichiban." As a high school student, Akechi is a character with an incredible amount of dialogue and speed, so Kaji Yuki's rapid-fire delivery is a particular highlight.

So far, what do you think of this introduction to Akechi? While watching the anime, it's easy to be overwhelmed by the volume and speed of dialogue, but his sharp observational skills are impressive as he corners even Kusuo. I'm looking forward to seeing how he plays a role in The Disastrous Life of Saiki K. The Disastrous Life of Saiki K.
