The Devil is a Part-Timer! is an anime based on a light novel published by Dengeki Bunko that was first made into an anime in 2013. While there had been much anticipation for a second season, it was delayed until the end of the original manga, when it was finally decided that the second season would begin airing in July 2022! The story begins with a demon king and a hero who were engaged in a fierce battle in another world, but are transported to modern-day Japan, where they lead somewhat tough lives as part-time workers and office ladies, and how they adapt to life as working adults to the point that they forget they are the demon king and hero. In this article, we'd like to introduce you to the hero, Emilia Justina, also known as Yusa Emi, who cornered the demon king Satan but let him escape to another world and chased him back to modern-day Japan!

From the fierce battle between the hero Emilia and the demon king Satan...

The demon king Satan, who leads the demons of the otherworldly world Ente Isla, begins his invasion of the human world, pushing the humans to the brink of defeat. However, the hero Emilia Justina, wielding a holy sword and holy energy, suddenly appears and, with her heroic efforts, defeats the demon king's army one by one, even cornering Satan himself. However, realizing his defeat, Satan opens a gate to another world and escapes with his confidant, Al Ciel. Emilia and her companions pursued the Demon King to put an end to him, but only Emilia was able to enter the gate.

The Hero Emilia's Lonely Battle Begins

The world the Hero Emilia arrived in was modern-day Japan, with a highly advanced civilization completely different from Ente Isla. It was extremely difficult for a young girl with no family register, name, home, or money to survive in modern Japan, and so began a new battle for the Hero Emilia. However, this was not a battle against monsters; it was a battle to survive and secure a living foundation. In fact, the Demon King was also experiencing the same harsh worldly experiences, but the Hero Emilia must somehow adapt to modern Japan on her own.

I'm Yusa Emi, an Office Lady at a Telemarketing Center

Fortunately, thanks to her magical abilities, there was no language barrier. Like the Demon King, Hero Emilia somehow managed to obtain a family register and, under the name Yusa Emi, began working as an office lady at the call center of Docodemo Co., Ltd. Unlike Maou and the others, she was lonely, but her living situation was much better than the Demon King's, living alone in an apartment. She lived in Room 501 of the Urban Heights Eifukucho apartment building in Eifukucho, Suginami Ward.

What kind of character is Hero Emilia, also known as Yusa Emi?

When Emilia was a hero in another world, her hometown was burned down by the Demon King's army, and her father was taken away. She was filled with righteous indignation and devoted all her energy to defeating the Demon King, a truly heroic character. However, after arriving in modern-day Japan, she could no longer live that way, and she somehow managed to learn modern ways of getting along and adapting. In the present day, Emi Yusa is beautiful, generally sociable, and fluent in multiple languages, making her a valuable asset at work. She also enjoys good relationships, and although Yusa is unwilling, she has completely adapted to the modern world.

Emi Yusa becomes emotional when the Demon King is involved

Still, she hasn't forgotten her animosity toward the Demon King, and desperately searches for him hiding in the modern world. However, when she finally finds him, she's confused by his friendliness and consideration—hardly what you'd expect from a Demon King. However, after losing her hometown to fire and her family, she can't give up on defeating the Demon King, so she starts lashing out whenever she sees him. In modern-day Japan, Emilia has lost most of her powers, just like the Demon King, so when it comes to defeating the Demon King, she ends up being called to the police when she tries to do so using a 100 yen knife. She's a disappointing hero who just keeps failing when it comes to the Demon King.

Even when she fails, she's still a hero! Emi Yusa's combat abilities are unmatched in the series.

Empowered by the heavenly metal "Heavenly Silver," she wields the "Better Half" sword and freely controls sacred energy, turning a hopeless battle around and coming within a hair-raising distance of defeating the Demon King. However, since arriving in this world, she has had most of her heroic powers sealed away due to a lack of means to restore her sacred energy. However, when she is able to unleash her full potential, her powers are unmatched in the series, threatening not only the Demon King but even the inhabitants of Heaven. While she normally has scarlet hair, it turns white during battle.

Emi Yusa ends up fighting alongside the Demon King

Although she finds the Demon King, Sadao Maoku, she is unable to openly condemn him. She is also nearly assassinated by a former comrade who doesn't want to be celebrated as a war hero, and she is caught up in a conspiracy by the heavens, forcing her to fight alongside Maoku each time. Furthermore, due to certain circumstances, she ends up giving birth to a daughter, and when the daughter begins to regard Maoku as her father, their relationship of coexistence deepens even further. After that, she continues to chase Maou for various reasons, and it seems like a given that they will team up each time.

Is Emi Yusa the type to keep everything to herself?

Even though she meets the Demon King in the modern world, he turns out to be far from the wicked and evil person she imagined him to be. She is betrayed and nearly eliminated by her former comrades, becomes embroiled in a conspiracy involving the heavens, and then, after the Demon King saves her, her common sense crumbles. Betrayed by trusted allies, harmed by mysterious forces, and rescued by the Demon King, who is supposed to be her enemy, she often struggles to process her emotions and keeps them to herself. While it's unclear how far the story will progress in Season 2, the storyline will likely emphasize this character's true nature.
