The second season of "Restaurant to Another World" will finally start airing in October 2021. Although the series has maintained its popularity through collaboration events, the sales of the DVDs have not been growing, so the news of the decision to produce a second season was a pleasant surprise for fans. So this time, we will look back on the first season and introduce the story's plot with spoilers. Many characters who appeared in the first season will appear again in the second season, so we would like to review them in advance.
Meeting with Aletta, the poster girl of Nekoya
The first time the owner and Aletta met was in the kitchen of Nekoya. Aletta, who lives in the ruins of another world, happens to find a door and goes inside. Thinking that it is a dream world, she drinks up the soup she found, and when her stomach is full, she falls asleep. Then, when the owner of the restaurant goes to the kitchen around 5am, he finds Aletta lying on the floor, asleep. That's how the two of them met (lol). The owner, who had been running the restaurant by himself, hears that Aletta has lost her job as a waitress in the royal capital, and hires her as a student part-timer for 10 silver coins. (Three meals included)
The "spell" cast on Aletta
Aletta, who has started working at Nekoya, will only work at Nekoya once every seven days, but on other days she will continue to live in the other world as before. Aletta, who escaped from the royal capital, continues to sleep outdoors in roofless ruins where there are many dangers. There are also monsters in the other world, so she is always in danger. Then the Red Queen, who considers Nekoya her "territory," casts a "spell (a curse to protect her treasure)" on Aletta, who has started working there, and adds Aletta herself to her treasure. Although her body only glowed red for a moment, Aletta became the property of the Red Queen, and the monsters who sensed this could not lay hands on her. Viewers have even called her the "world's strongest Secom" (lol). By the way, this "spell" has also been cast on Nekoya and the store owner, so if something happens, they can sense it and rush to help.
Menchikatsu and Ebi Fry
In the second episode, Sara, also known as Menchikatsu, and Seeleman, also known as Ebi Fry, appear. While Seeleman has been a typical Seeleman character since the beginning, Sarah is a bit different. She usually gobbles down minced cutlets hungrily, but in her first appearance she even fought goblins with a sword, spear, and crossbow. Even after she visits Nekoya, she shows an embarrassed expression when her stomach growls, and over-reacts to a glass of water, making her more cute than cool. In the future, the two may argue as they both love fried food...
Croquette and Chocolate Parfait
Adelheid, also known as "Chocolate Parfait," is the first princess of the empire and is said to be the most beautiful woman in the empire. She first appears in the third episode, but at this point she is said to be 16 years old. However, she first visited Nekoya when she was 4 years old. She was taken there by her grandfather, the first emperor Wilheim, also known as "Croquette," and ate her first parfait. When she asked her grandfather about the parfait at the time, he explained that the cream represents "clouds" and the ice cream represents "winter clouds filled with snow." She remembered this when she visited the shop for the second time at the age of 16, and shyly ordered, "I want to eat a cloud." In this episode, she was also surprised by the shop owner, who realized at first sight that Adelheid, who had only visited once before 12 years ago, was "Wilheim's granddaughter." Incidentally, it was the current shop owner, when he was still young, who made the parfait for Adelheid 12 years ago.
Gaganpo's Magic Words
Not only humans but also various races such as beastmen, fairies, and elves visit the Restaurant to Another World, but among them, only the Lizardmen can hardly speak. The words that appeared in the fourth episode and can be understood by humans are "I came" when visiting the restaurant, "Large omelette rice, three omelettes to take home" when ordering, "Itadakimasu", "Refill", "Thank you for the meal" before the meal, "Kitadaka", "Bill", and "See you" when the takeaway omelette arrives. That was all. Although he seems to talk a lot, he has learned that words like "itadakimasu" are prayers, and was taught by the previous owner that ordering is "a word that means I want food," and this has been passed down from generation to generation. Because of this, when ordering or rushing (when he wants to ask "Is the food ready yet?"), he always orders a set of "large omelette rice and three omelettes to take home," and he sometimes orders take-out repeatedly, leaving Aletta confused. Perhaps because he does not understand words very well, he does not react even when a heated argument breaks out in the restaurant. However, when the atmosphere becomes one of violent fights, his warrior blood stirs and for some reason he tries to join in.
The previous owner who saved Lionel, who later became a "legendary gladiator"
The previous owner saved Lionel, who always ordered katsudon, about 20 years ago. After being defeated by Alexander and becoming a gladiator slave, Lionel was depressed, but "one day he treated him to six katsudon without asking for payment." At that time, Lionel had lost confidence after losing to Alexander. He was physically and mentally exhausted, but he regained his energy to "earn money for the katsudon" and won the first match against the manticore. After that, he went 20 years without a loss and became the legendary Lion King. Lionel had been promised freedom for 10,000 gold coins, but he earned it all in his first year. By the way, one gold coin is worth about 100,000 yen. This means that Lionel earned 1 billion yen in his first year as a slave. (When he defeated his first manticore, he had earned 100 gold coins (10 million yen).) Now, 20 years later, he has become a legend in the arena, so he may be incredibly rich.
The Sandwich War Begins
The regulars who come to Nekoya have a favorite dish that is the origin of their nicknames. That one dish is the most delicious dish at Nekoya, and each of them believes it and eats with satisfaction... but sometimes they argue about what is the most delicious. The topic of the day was what is the best thing to make into a sandwich. The first to raise their hands were minced meat cutlet and fried shrimp. Tonkatsu and teriyaki come in to stop the two of them getting heated up, but they also say that their favorite food is the best for sandwiches. Then, not only the prepared bread but also the dessert group joined in the battle. The cream-rich chocolate parfait and custard-rich pudding a la mode quietly clash. Even the Neapolitan, which has no rival, joins in... and in the end, the fight is settled when Alphonse forces his rival to eat his favorite sandwich. By the way, his impressions of eating the rival's recommended sandwich are not depicted in the original or anime.
An unexpected connection. Curry rice and carpaccio
Speaking of Alphonse, he is a warrior who survived alone on an isolated island for 20 years and looked forward to eating curry rice once every seven days. He was said to be the strongest naval general in the principality, and since Seeleman, a knight of the principality, was at Nekoya, he should have known about his existence and asked for help. Some say that... but perhaps he would have preferred to eat curry rice once a week on the isolated island rather than returning to the principality and regaining his status. After returning to the principality, he entered Nekoya through the door Seeleman had first used. Instead, the door to the isolated island (the island of the chimera killers) that he had been using until then was used by the two sirens, Carpaccio and Gold Coins.
A note and gold coins
When the sirens Iris and Arius visited the isolated island and were exploring whether to build a nest there, they discovered a treasure chest left behind by Alphonse. The treasure chest contained gold and silver coins, along with a letter. Sirens do not have the habit of using gold and silver coins like humans, but the letter advises them to take them to a door that appears once every seven days. Alphonse had left words of encouragement, as well as information about money and doors, for anyone who might find themselves stranded on a deserted island like himself. After seeing the letter, the two find Nekoya's door on the hill, just as written in the letter, and there they discover Tuna Carpaccio. When they first visit the shop, they meet Alphonse, but Arius is the only one who notices its existence.
What is a cookie worth?
During her break at Nekoya, Aletta was looking forward to the cookies placed in the break room. Usually, she was careful to limit herself to five cookies at a time, but the owner of the shop gave her an assortment of cookies as a gift for her new job, and she decided to take them back to her home in the other world (where she is living at Menchikatsu's house). Just as the cookies were about to run out, Menchikatsu's younger sister Sia came to visit, and Aletta served the last five cookies as tea snacks. Impressed by the taste, Sia asks where she can buy it, but Aletta looks troubled and remains silent... Then Sia changes the question and asks if she can get the cookies again. Aletta answers that she can, and continues, "I think they're very expensive." After seeing the quality of the cookies and the can they are in, Sia estimates them at 40 to 50 silver coins, about 50,000 yen. Still wanting to get the cookie assortment, Sia entrusts Aletta with one gold coin, which is her month's allowance. However, the result is one silver coin. Even the large box is only worth two silver coins, and Sia is shocked.
A strange reaction of Aletta that was not mentioned in the anime
In the anime, when Sia asks where she bought the cookie assortment, many viewers may have wondered why she didn't honestly tell Sia about the Otherworld Restaurant, but this was because her sister Sarah had told her not to tell anyone. The reason is not revealed, but in the original work it is written that Sarah told her to keep the Otherworld Restaurant a secret from Shea. That's why Aletta looked awkward and hesitated. By the way, regarding the price assessment of the cookies, in the other world, if it was a "high-quality sweet," the market price would be 1 to 2 silver coins for the first 5 pieces. Cookies are sweets made with technology that far surpasses that, so taking that into consideration, the answer seems to be 40 to 50 silver coins per box.
What is the value of the gift given by Princess Tiana of the Flower Kingdom?
The fairies of the Flower Kingdom who became fascinated with crepes. Among them, Queen Tiana is particularly arrogant. Although she is arrogant, she does not have a bad attitude, and like the Red Queen, she has a queenly personality, but compared to the princesses Adelheid and Victoria, she is a very arrogant character. The Queen gave Victoria a small seed as a thank you for showing her around. The only explanation was that it was a "flower seed from our country," but when Victoria received it, she was surprised and thanked, and promised to pay all the fairies' fees in the future. The original work explains the mysterious "flower seed" a little, saying that "just boiling it and drinking it will make you one year younger, and it will also be a catalyst for powerful magic." A potion that makes you one year younger just by drinking it... When you think about it, paying for the little fairies for a lifetime is too cheap.
Is the other waitress the strongest security?
Kuro started working at Nekoya as another part-timer midway through. He works at Nekoya every week, just like Aletta, in exchange for wages in the form of chicken curry. Kuro's true identity is a black dragon, one of the six pillars. He looks more childish than Aletta, but he is tens of thousands of years old. Nekoya is protected by the Red Queen's "spell," but it will be defenseless until the Red Queen arrives, so Kuro is tasked with protecting Nekoya until he arrives. (Kuro was also captivated by Nekoya's food, so their interests aligned.) The Red Queen said, "Even if someone tries to interfere, I can at least hold them off until I get there," but Kuro's power far surpasses human knowledge, and even the Four Heroes, who could defeat the Demon King, were so moved that they trembled in fear when they saw Kuro at his lowest point. Kuro protects the store, and the Red Queen rushes to the scene if a crisis approaches. It is no exaggeration to say that Nekoya is protected by the strongest security. Even with this, Kuro is said to be the weakest of the six. (In exchange, he is the best out of the six in how he uses his powers and is the smartest.)
