"Peach Boy Riverside" is a remake of a manga originally serialized on the webcomic posting site "Shintosha," with a new illustrator. The original work is by Cool Kyoshinsha, the creator of "Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid." The anime adaptation of Peach Boy Riverside is scheduled to begin airing in July 2021, alongside the second season of Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid and the anime adaptation of "The Peaceful Generation's Idaten-tachi," also illustrated by the same author. This makes it one of the most anticipated summer anime titles. Today, we'd like to introduce the story of Peach Boy Riverside!
Prologue
Once upon a time, there lived an old man and an old woman. Grandpa heads to the mountains to mow the lawn, and Grandma heads to the river to do laundry... (Omitted) They finally defeat the demon, but it seems there are demons in other countries too... so Momotaro crosses the sea. Defeating it is impressive, rescuing it is rewarding, but the only thing he doesn't do well is having fun.
Synopsis Part 1: The Princess and the Imported Peaches
Saltrine Aldyk (Sally), princess of the small kingdom of Aldyk, is a sheltered princess who always longs for the outside world. As usual, Sally sneaks out of the castle and is chased by soldiers. During this time, she meets a traveling girl (later revealed to be a boy). The boy introduced himself as Mikoto. Sally tried to ask Mikoto about the outside world. Meanwhile, demons appeared before the king of the Aldyk Kingdom, demanding approximately 30 human sacrifices per month. The demons' power was so overwhelming that the soldiers could not defeat them.
The Princess and the Imported Peaches ②
The demons were acting arrogantly, but when the leader of the demons spotted Mikoto, he became frightened and tried to flee the country. However, Mikoto spotted him. With a maniacal grin on her face, Mikoto chased the demons, slaughtering every last one. The demons were so powerful that humans could hardly defeat them, but she mercilessly slaughtered them all with ease. After that, Mikoto left the country, but Sally made a decision. If things continued as they were, the small kingdom of Aldyk would surely be consumed by an unknown threat. Believing that she needs to learn about the outside world, Sally decides to leave her homeland and pursue Mikoto.
Synopsis Part 2: Motohime and the Rabbit
While traveling, Sally finds a collapsed rabbit demi-human (rabbit). Unable to leave it alone, she offers it a carrot, and it decides to follow her. Sally and the rabbit Frau arrive at a nearby village, where she witnesses the deep-rooted discrimination against demi-humans. Unfortunately, the village had been plagued by monster attacks until recently. Although the monsters were recently wiped out by Mikoto, to them, demi-humans and monsters were no different.
Motohime and Ujin 2
Meanwhile, the surviving monster attacks the village. What's more, it's not just any monster, but a demon. Sally rushes to the scene and is nearly attacked, but Frau saves her, instantly defeating the monster. Even so, the villagers' distrust of demi-humans persists, but seeing the demi-humans risk their lives to save the humans somehow changes their minds. The two are captured by knights from the Kingdom of Rimdar who are on patrol and thrown into prison.
Synopsis Part 3: Me and Peach
Sally and Frau are taken to Hawthorne of the Knights and imprisoned without a word. This is because Frau is a demi-human strong enough to defeat demons, but they also witness the scene where she rescues villagers. They are released shortly after, but are suddenly thrown into jail and try to get Hawthorne to buy them a meal. At that moment, the city walls are blown open, and two demons attack the Kingdom of Rimdar. They are a humanoid demon named Eye Demon and a walrus demon named Seto. Seto invades the city walls, and soldiers intercept him, but he is no match for Frau, who takes on Seto. However, the difference in strength is still significant, and Sally and the others find themselves in a difficult position. Then, something strange happens to Sally.
Synopsis Part 4: Impulse and Smile
While Seto invades the city, the Eye Demon, who blew up the city walls, is resting. When the Eye Demon fires its Demon Cannon, its body shrinks, and it takes some time for it to return to its original size. Then, Mikoto, the demon-killer, appears before the Eye Demon. Mikoto deliberately overlooks the cooldown and waits for the Eye Demon to regain its strength before fighting again. Meanwhile, Sally was facing off against Seto, but her demeanor was clearly different, her personality becoming more aggressive, and she had the same peach-colored eye markings as Mikoto.
Impulse and Smile ②
For some reason, Seto's attacks failed to even scratch Sally, and instead, a single blow from Sally killed Seto. The battle between Megane and Mikoto was also instantly over. Megane's Sendo and Onibou were ineffective against Mikoto, and she was instantly subdued. However, Mikoto chose not to kill Megane, who had taken on the form of a child. Instead, she broke his eyes and horns, the source of his power, and left the scene.
Synopsis Part 5: Demons and Humans
Sally wakes up in bed. She has no memory of defeating Seto. She's also lying in a prison bed, the Eye Demon, whose eyes and horns have been destroyed by Mikoto. Originally, she was scheduled for immediate execution due to suspicions that she might be a demon, but Hawthorne arranged for her to be monitored. In fact, the Eye Demon is awake and tries to force her way out, but having lost her demonic powers, she's nothing more than a weak young girl.
Demons and Humans ②
If things continue as they are, the Eye Demon will be executed as a demon, so Sally and Frau try to free him from the prison. Naturally, Hawthorne chases after them. However, the moment Hawthorne steps outside the gate to chase the three, the Rimdar Kingdom disappears without a trace. The cause of the Rimdar Kingdom's destruction was a high-ranking demon known as the Blue Face Demon.
