The long-awaited anime series "No Guns Life" began airing in 2019 and is on a roll. With a hard-boiled protagonist, a unique worldview, and a setting that is still shrouded in mystery, it's a work full of highlights. Main Character ①: Inui Juzo
Protagonist
First up, the protagonist, Inui Juzo. He's an over-extended individual with a revolver-style pistol for a head. He has a certain Showa-era vibe about him, and in Showa-era terms, he's a tough guy. He hates humidity and children, apparently because humidity makes him rust. He's a heavy smoker and has a cool, sensual personality. However, he's also quite naive, blushing even when kissed on the cheek. It's a cute contrast! (lol)
Work
He works from his own office, the Inui Consultation Office, handling cases related to Extended Beings. Others call him "Juzo the Case Worker." He's fundamentally manly and loyal. Perhaps because of this, his income isn't particularly high. Incidentally, the owner of the Matsuyama Building, where his office is located, is a transvestite named Christina Matsuzaki.
Man
He has a manly personality and a strong sense of duty and humanity. His lines are always sobering, and even with his gun-shaped head, he looks incredibly handsome. I wonder what he looked like when he was human. Incidentally, his fighting style is bare-handed, and his combat is refreshing. He's in a difficult position, being the target of discrimination and persecution in society, but his sense of justice and his determination to not let it get the better of him make him a true hero!
Junichi Suwabe
Juzo Inui's voice is provided by the highly popular voice actor Junichi Suwabe. Isn't his smile wonderful? His voice is deep and slightly husky, hard to imagine given his slender frame, and it's one you'll want to listen to forever! It's safe to say that this voice further enhances Juzo Inui's charm. Wonderful!
Main Character ②: Arahabaki Tetsuro
Key Person
The next character to play a major role in the story is Arahabaki Tetsuro. At just 13 years old, Arahabaki Tetsuro has led a brutal life. Hoping to put an end to his painful existence, he heads to Juzo Inui's house. He had been reported missing for a year, and a missing person report had been filed. In fact, he had been held captive in a certain place all this time. When Juzo Inui discovered him, he had scars from repeated cuts to the tendons in his limbs to prevent him from moving, and he was only wearing a single piece of clothing.
Harmonie
In fact, Tetsuro Arata was held captive and used as a test subject for an experiment. As a result, he was treated so rudely that when he escaped and was captured by Karen, she told him, "If necessary, all you need is a body above your neck." He was forcibly made an augmented being and implanted with a remote control device called a "Harmonie." The tendons in his limbs were cut, and his throat was crushed, all to increase his compatibility with this Harmonie. That's just too cruel.
Blood Ties
Beryuhren Corporation, a large corporation, developed and popularized body augmentation technology. Tetsuro Arata is their son and heir. Surely that's not true? His way of thinking is that being a test subject at Veryuhren is a given. That's the thinking of a crazy guy (lol). There's another reason, but you'll have to wait until the main story to find out. And it was Juzo Inui who kindly reached out to Tetsuro, who had endured such hardship for so long. This is where the story begins!
Daiki Yamashita
The voice of Tetsuro Araki, who leads such a harsh life, is provided by another highly popular voice actor, Daiki Yamashita. He often plays young boys, and his voice is a fitting choice. His voice is very gentle and soft, with a slightly higher-pitched tone. It's a soothing voice. However, in the spirited scenes, his acting skills are truly impressive. Be sure to pay attention to those scenes as well.
Main Character 3: Mary Steinberg
Beautiful Girl
Next up is Mary Steinberg, the protagonist's childhood friend and frequent partner. She has long blonde hair in a braid that reaches down to her hairline, a piercing in her mouth, and striking, beautiful blue eyes. She's a little dirty, but she's still a beautiful girl (lol). She generally uses polite language. She has some tomboyish traits, making her not a very feminine character.
Augmentation Technician
Mary may seem light-hearted, but her main job is as an augmentation technician. She quickly responds to any malfunctions or other issues with the augmenters, and her skills and knowledge are top-notch. Even a malfunctioning, disturbed girl can be cured in an instant by her. She's like a doctor for the augmenters. Even Juzo Inui respects her.
They've been friends for a long time
She seems to have been friends with Juzo Inui for a long time. Just by looking at the expressionless Juzo, she can tell he's in a bad mood, and she can also tell he's angry in an instant. I don't know what she's really looking at to judge him, but that must be how long they've been friends. They seem close enough to be able to lightly tease Juzo. Even when Juzo Inui is in trouble, she's always there to help him, even though she says she doesn't want to!
Aimi Numakura
The voice of Mary Steinberg is the much talked about Aimi Numakura. She recently married fellow popular voice actor Ryota Osaka. I was completely surprised! Aimi Numakura, whose career is going smoothly both professionally and personally, excels in her acting, portraying everything from cool women to cute young girls. This time, her role is a bit challenging, but she delivers a charming performance that flows seamlessly!
Main Character ④: Olivier Van de Velme
Reconstruction Agency
And there's also a police-like entity that deals exclusively with Augments. Olivier Van de Velme, our next character, serves as the director of the Reconstruction Agency's Augmented Person Countermeasures Bureau, commonly known as EMS. He has a beautiful, sleek body and beautiful, straight black hair. His charming features are his thick lips, and his speaking style is so beautiful it almost seems like he's wearing makeup. He's in charge of the sex appeal (lol)
Collaborator
Juzo Inui and Olivier are Extenders and EMS, but they also cooperate and mutually support each other for their own benefit. When Juzo Inui used a revolver, Olivier van de Bölme covered it up for him, even though he would have been dismantled for violating the Extender Act. However, in exchange, he ended up cooperating with Olivier van de Bölme on a case he was investigating. Juzo Inui has a wide network of contacts.
Worries
Although he holds a fairly high-ranking position as Director of EMS, he still seems lacking the strength to stand up for his beliefs. He's often criticized unreasonably by his superiors, and his subordinates often ignore rules and instructions. It seems like he's living in a very stressful society (lol). If he really wants to achieve something, asking Inui Juzo might be his last resort. Incidentally, he also has a habit of relieving stress by smelling surströmming (said to be the world's smelliest food).
Past
About 10 years ago, Olivier lost his beloved father in a mass murder committed by Hayden Gondry. When the culprit, Hayden Gondry, escapes, Olivier pursues him with his own thoughts in mind. It was at this moment that the usually calm Olivier van de Bölme raised his voice. However, the real culprit was Mega-Armed Saitokisada, who is treated as a hero by the world, and he was unable to follow through on his feelings. I'm sure he will continue to fight for justice in the future.
Yoko Hikasa
This is Yoko Hikasa, the voice of Olivier Van de Bölme! She's also a hugely popular voice actress, and her range of roles is truly impressive, from a lively young girl to a sultry woman like Olivier Van de Bölme, to a noble woman. And with her beauty, it's no wonder she's so popular! Incidentally, she's also the creator of the catchphrase "tehepero." She's certainly influential. Main Character ⑤: Kronen von Wolf
Olivier's Subordinate
This young man with the raised eyebrows is Kronen von Wolf, the team leader of the Reconstruction Agency's Expansionist Countermeasures Bureau. He has a well-trained, muscular physique and glasses that suggest a genius. He has a twisted personality and tends to act independently, refusing to follow the instructions of his superior, Olivier van de Bölme. He has an intense dislike for Augmented Beings, and something may have happened in the past. He doesn't seem to have much of a trusting relationship with Olivier van de Beerme, who is close friends with Augmented Being Juzo Inui.
Fighting Style
He carries a pistol under his left arm, but his fighting style is simply "needles." He pulls needles from a grayish tube on his left wrist and throws them at Augmented Beings. He targets the nervous system, immobilizing them. Kronen von Wolff's primary skill is restraining Augmented Beings. He has a rather difficult personality, but he's good at his job.
Yuya Uchida
This is Yuya Uchida, the voice of Kronen von Wolf. He's a veteran voice actor, currently 53 years old. He's also an actor, so of course his acting skills are incredible! He often does dubbing for movies, most notably for Leonardo DiCaprio. He often plays handsome characters (lol). Kronen von Wolf, played by this handsome Yuya Uchida, is a very important character, so be sure to keep an eye out for him.
Main Character ⑥: Christina Matsuzaki
Building Owner
The owner of the building where Juzo Inui lives. He's a caring transvestite who gives him crab hotpot and always comes to his aid if he needs anything. The first time Tetsuro Arata went to greet him, he showered him with kisses. He's also a very aggressive transvestite (lol). Since he was captured by Spitzbergen along with Tetsuro Arata, he's often caught up in the action because he's nearby. In the end, the building is burned down (lol).
Masashi Ehara
Christina Matsuzaki is voiced by veteran voice actor Masashi Ehara. His range of acting skills is astounding. The first person that comes to mind is Tom Hanks, isn't it? He has a gentle, warm voice. He's also voiced Robin Williams and Will Smith! While he often does voiceover work, Masashi Ehara also voices James in Thomas the Tank Engine. Keep an eye out for Christina Matsuzaki.
Main Character ⑦: Hugh Cunningham
Executive
This is Hugh Cunningham, an executive at Veruehren. He is a short, medium-sized man with a distinctive face. As an executive at Veruehren, he primarily takes action and issues orders, such as negotiating with Juzo Inui and issuing instructions to Ende and Ann. His pride was hurt by Juzo Inui, and he sometimes hates him. He is subservient to his superiors, but he is not a very good person to his subordinates, treating them like pawns.
Yoji Ueda
The voice of this quirky character is provided by veteran voice actor Yoji Ueda. In the Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei series, he plays four different characters, and it's impressive to see him perform them almost without editing. You'll be amazed at how quickly he switches between roles and how he changes voices. Hugh Cunningham's high-pitched voice and distinctive endings make this character memorable. Keep an eye out!
