"Gakuen BASARA" is a work created with the premise that "what if the characters from "Sengoku BASARA" were students and teachers at a modern-day "BASARA Academy." While it is not directly connected to "Sengoku BASARA," the personalities of each character and their relationships with other characters are largely faithful to the original. It originally appeared in the comic anthology "Gakuen BASARA," which was published directly by Capcom, and the work is based on that anthology. Many of the characters are in different grades and classes than those in the anthology.

Date Masamune's Profile

1st Year Class 1 / Baseball Club / Favorite Subject: English / Weak Subject: Math. He is the captain, ace, and number four of the baseball team. He devotes himself every day to field battles with his rival Yukimura. He is the series' signature character, appearing since the first "Sengoku BASARA" game. He is 19 years old. He is known as "the leader" by the soldiers of the Date army, and both he and his subordinates, including Katakura Kojuro, with whom he has a strong master-servant relationship, have a delinquent-like temperament (this is likely an exaggerated interpretation of the mischievous aspects seen in historical fact). He is the so-called "egotistical" character who speaks informally and brashly to both his opponents, whether they are Nobunaga or Shingen.

His rival is Sanada Yukimura

He is constantly battling his rival, Sanada Yukimura. At BASARA Academy, baseball team ace Date Masamune and soccer team ace Sanada Yukimura are engaged in a heated battle over the right to use the school's field.

Overwhelmingly popular!

In official popularity polls, it has won first place five times in a row, starting with the original "Sengoku BASARA" series. His popularity is incredible, having received numerous votes in a 2010 game character popularity poll. Even in "Gakuen BASARA 3," despite Tokugawa Ieyasu and Ishida Mitsunari being the main protagonists, he consistently ranked first, perhaps due to his resemblance to the series' protagonist.

Masamune is on the baseball team and Yukimura is on the soccer team, but I feel like the opposite would make more sense. The baseball team members are complete delinquents and don't look like students at all, but there are a few others who don't look like students either. Anyway, they were fighting over the right to use the field, and Sasuke arbitrated, leading to a football match.

Date Masamune demonstrates his six-sword style with a bat. This is the swordsmanship used by Date Masamune in the Sengoku BASARA series. He holds three swords in each hand, pinning them between his fingers, creating a unique image of him wielding dragon claws. It depicts his unique style of two-sword style.

Like the protagonist, Masamune declares his name to the world as the One-Eyed Dragon and races through the turbulent Sengoku period in his quest to unify the country. In the game, he races at high speeds on a horse (commonly known as UMA), while in the anime, he rides a motorcycle-like horse (commonly known as Umaiku). Despite being a Sengoku warlord, he speaks English. This is thought to be due to the fact that Masamune sought trade with foreign countries in real life (there is a record of him sending his subordinate, Hasekura Tsunenaga, to Spain).

The Best Defense is Offense

While this swordsmanship excels in offensive attacks compared to the one-sword style, its greatest weakness is its inability to defend or evade attacks. It truly embodies the idea that offense is the best defense, and was created with the idea of prioritizing offense over poor defense. Furthermore, it's a double-edged sword, as even a single attack will return the sword to its original one-sword style.

Voice actor: Kazuya Nakai

Born November 25, 1967. Originally from Kobe, Hyogo Prefecture. Blood type A. Affiliated with Aoni Production. He has voiced many swordsmen (or warriors), most notably Roronoa Zoro ("I've always cut down every person I've seen" - according to him). Some have nicknamed him the "swordsman voice actor," but he himself has a severe fear of sharp objects.

However, when auditioning for the "ONE PIECE" anime, he read through the manga in preparation for the role and became drawn to Zoro's character. He applied for the role and was accepted.

The Beloved Nakai

He often plays strong-willed characters. However, his personality is gentle and calm. Perhaps because of this, he is often seen being teased or made to do unreasonable things by his co-stars in One Piece, as well as at various events and radio shows.
