Chosokabe Motochika appears as a gang leader in Gakuen BASARA. In Sengoku BASARA, he appears as a pirate. The historical Sengoku warlord "Chosokabe Motochika" is written in kanji like this, but in Gakuen BASARA, he is always written as "Chosokabe Motochika." In Sengoku BASARA, he is 22 years old, but since Gakuen BASARA is set in a high school, his age is lowered.

Chosokabe Motochika from Gakuen BASARA rides a motorcycle, and the name of his beloved vehicle is "Fugaku-go." The original Sengoku BASARA features a Heiki named Fuji who likes gimmicks, so the name likely comes from that. Gakuen BASARA also carries over many other settings from the original.

The Personality of Chosokabe Motochika

While he has a rough and tumble personality, as befits the image of a pirate, he is also a kind and generous man who cares for his comrades and subordinates. However, this kindness, combined with his impulsive nature, can be a downfall, as he tends to lose his temper and go on a rampage once he gets angry. Because he cares deeply for his subordinates, they adore him and call him "Aniki." This "Aniki" nickname has also become popular among fans, with many calling him "Aniki" instead of his real name.

Currently, Sengoku BASARA games such as "Sengoku BASARA 4 Sumeragi" and "Sengoku BASARA Sanada Yukimura Den" are available. However, Chosokabe Motochika was not originally a playable NPC character. He remains a popular character in games like Gakuen BASARA, so those unfamiliar with his time may be surprised.

Chosokabe Motochika was an NPC in the original Sengoku BASARA, but in a popularity poll, he came in third place despite being an NPC. This led to him becoming a playable character in Sengoku BASARA 2, and he continued to appear in Sengoku BASARA 4 Sumeragi. Despite his immense popularity, Chosokabe Motochika's "big brother" reputation was apparently present from the very beginning, rather than gradually becoming a character.

Fighting Style

In Gakuen BASARA, Chosokabe Motochika wields a spiked bat, but in the original work, he uses a large weapon inspired by an anchor. The handle is wrapped with a chain that can be attached or removed. While the Gakuen BASARA version uses a nailed bat, Chosokabe Motochika wears the chain like a necklace.

A dynamic fighting style

His fighting style involves effortlessly wielding a giant anchor, excelling in close-to-medium range battles. His fierce personality is reflected in his powerful and dynamic fighting style. He fights with his left hand in his pocket, and seeing as how his left hand is always in his pocket in Gakuen BASARA, it seems he keeps it there at all times, just like in the original game.

In Sengoku BASARA, Chosokabe Motochika and Tokugawa Ieyasu meet in "Sengoku BASARA 2 Hero Gaiden." They subsequently become friends and form an alliance. However, in "Sengoku BASARA 3," their relationship deteriorates when the Tokugawa flag falls after Shikoku is destroyed. Furthermore, they are sworn enemies of the Mori clan, who rule the Chugoku region across the river, due to their opposing ideologies. Chosokabe himself and his tricks are sometimes used against him.

His relationship with Tokugawa Ieyasu in Gakuen BASARA is unknown

In fact, Chosokabe Motochika has misunderstandings about Tokugawa Ieyasu, and some of these misunderstandings can be resolved by taking different routes in Sengoku BASARA 3, so be sure to check them out. However, since he breaks off ties with Tokugawa Ieyasu in the drama route, his friendship with Tokugawa Ieyasu in Gakuen BASARA is also a matter of interest.

With Gakuen BASARA scheduled to begin airing in October 2018, some may be wondering about the voice actor. Ryuzo Ishino, a familiar face among Sengoku BASARA and Chosokabe Motochika fans, will continue to play the role of Chosokabe Motochika.

Ryuzo Ishino's Comment

"Since this is Gakuen BASARA, not Sengoku BASARA, I'm having fun playing the role with a sense of anything goes," he said in a comment on the official website, revealing that Ryuzo Ishino himself is enjoying the role. He says that even non-Sengoku BASARA fans can enjoy this, so if you're a fan of Ryuzo Ishino, be sure to check out Chosokabe Motochika from Gakuen BASARA.

Summary

In Gakuen BASARA, Chosokabe Motochika is the leader of a gang. In the original Sengoku BASARA, he was best friends with Tokugawa Ieyasu, but was also a sworn enemy of Mori Motonari, as they were located across the river from each other in the Chugoku region. In Gakuen BASARA, he also seems to be disliked by Mori Motonari, so Chosokabe Motochika's relationships may also be an enjoyable element.
