EX-ARM is a sci-fi battle action anime that will begin airing in January 2021. Set in the near future of 2030, it is a sci-fi story about the EX-ARM Task Force, a police unit established to deal with the rampant crimes caused by the over-technological super weapon EX-ARM, and the protagonist Natsume Akira, who wakes up with no body and only a brain, who confronts the various crimes caused by EX-ARM. In this article, I would like to introduce the plot of EX-ARM in two parts, with spoilers. This time, I have summarized the contents of volumes 1 to 5 of the manga.
Synopsis 1: The Beginning of 2014
In 2014, Akira Natsume, a high school student who is bad with machines and has no particular redeeming qualities other than his hobby of cooking, has a complex about his older brother who has changed himself through hard work. When he asks his brother how he managed to change so much, he is told that it is "just take a step forward." After that, he sees a girl being harassed by delinquents near a convenience store and tries to abandon her at first, but then he remembers his brother's words and tries to take a step forward. However, a large truck crashes into Akira, and that is his last memory.
Synopsis 2: In 2030, Akira Natsume loses his body and becomes only a brain
In 2030, in Tokyo, police officer Minami Uezono and her android partner Alma infiltrate a certain weapons transaction site of a certain criminal organization. The reckless Minami rushes into the transaction site without thinking about the consequences and confiscates the weapon, but her recklessness leads to her being cornered. Minami tries to use the weapon to resolve the situation, but what comes out is a unit that houses the brain. And that brain core unit was the over-technological super weapon EX-ARM, which housed Akira Natsume's brain. Akira woke up 16 years after 2014, losing his body and only having his brain.
Synopsis 3: Super Hacking Ability
At that moment, Minami and Alma were attacked by combatants equipped with EX-ARM. The soldier is cornered by another soldier equipped with the EX-ARM "No.08" through hand, but Akira's large-scale hacking ability with EX-ARM "No.00" and Alma's ability analysis allow them to exploit the soldier's weaknesses and solve the case. However, Akira later learns that he has become an EX-ARM, and that the EX-ARM was involved in the great disaster that occurred at the 2020 Olympics. He also learns that there is a high possibility that Akira himself was involved in the incident.
Synopsis 4: Human Bomb Incident Edition
A series of suicide bombings occurred in Tokyo, and the incidents had the characteristic of people suddenly exploding without any bombs or anything. All of the victims of the terrorist attacks were people involved in the vested interests of the construction of the Tokyo Bay Megafloat, and all of the people who exploded were poor residents. Later, the person who planned the terrorist attacks demanded that the construction of the megafloat be halted. The countermeasures department uses the advice of Arisa Himegami, an engineer dispatched from Iriya Heavy Industries, and Akira's abilities to identify the person who turned into a bomb based on information from patrolroids spread throughout Tokyo.
Synopsis 5: Human Bomb Incident Solved
By identifying the person who turned into a bomb and protecting him in advance, the Task Force gets a clue to the culprit from his words and actions, and identifies the culprit, a priest. Kondo and Kimura of the Task Force corner the priest, but Kimura is brainwashed by some group, so they let him escape. However, by overlooking the fact that the EX-ARM that turned the human bomb was designed to explode by remote control and had a range of 300m, they find out that the priest is traveling by helicopter, and they corner the priest by flying a helicopter in the same way. In the end, the priest was shot and killed by Kondo, but even the priest had been brainwashed by someone, and they were unable to find the mastermind behind it.
Synopsis 6: Sexaroid Brothel Raid 1
A sexaroid brothel where androids provide sexual entertainment is attacked. Four people, including employees and bodyguards, were killed. Seven androids were damaged, and the perpetrator was an EX-ARM holder equipped with an exceptionally sharp leg blade. The identity of the perpetrator was Rean Valeus, a volunteer doctor in the Republic of Muanji, whose goal was to take revenge on Morau, the former president of the Republic of Muanji, and his android Elmira, who were responsible for the massacres that had been carried out in the Republic of Muanji using EX-ARMs.
Headhunter Morau
At the time, President Morau had repeatedly committed cruel and sadistic massacres, using the EX-ARM "No. 13" to erase the heads of rebellious citizens with its ability to vanish space, and had even killed Rean's lover and her child. Later, Rean and others staged a coup and overthrew Morau's government, but Morau was granted asylum through a deal with Japan and attempted to flee to Japan.
Synopsis 7: Sexaroid Brothel Raid 2
Cornered by Rean and the Task Force, Morau and Elmira take out a bipedal tank and No. 13 and begin to run wild. As civilians began to suffer damage, the Countermeasures Division deployed the state-of-the-art SA-class combat body "Orga IGNIS=TYPE02EX" developed by Iriya Heavy Industries. However, their current equipment cannot penetrate the armor of the bipedal tank, and they cannot get close due to the space disappearance EX-ARM. Meanwhile, information provided by Lean reveals that the space disappearance ability is actually a space swap, and they try to use this specification to their advantage. However, at that moment, the United Nations forces decide to drop a vapor bomb.
Sexaroid Brothel Raid Case Solved
Although he took advantage of Elmira's ability to swap spaces, he was unable to neutralize her, and it was revealed from the exposed bipedal tank that the brain-dead Morau was connected to Elmira through an implant in his brain. Elmira continued to follow the instructions of the brain-dead Morau and went berserk. The berserk Elmira expanded the effective range of the EX-ARM. As it began to cause large-scale damage using GPS location information, Akira used the GPS satellite as a last resort to swap the location information, forcing Elmira to self-destruct. However, this is a last resort that could develop into an international issue, and the merits of the system will be called into question.
Synopsis Part 8: School Life
One day, Akira wakes up to find himself in a lucky lewd encounter with his childhood friend, Minami Kamizono. In 2014, Akira Natsume, an ordinary high school student, was enjoying his youth with his childhood friend Minami. One day, he meets a transfer student, Alma Iriya, and the story begins... This school drama is recreated using full-dive VR. This was to awaken memories sealed away in Akira's psyche. However, an accident occurred in which the members of the Task Force who had dived into the VR were unable to log out.
School Life Part 2
Unable to log out, the Task Force tried to somehow remind Akira that this was not reality and log out, but a mysterious pink-haired beautiful girl barged in. The mysterious girl allowed Akira to experience a convenient gal game, and the Task Force members headed for Akira while breaking through the mysterious girl's obstruction. On the way, Minami heard a mysterious voice and identified the distortion of the illusion created by Akira.
School Life Part 3
There was no mirror in the world Akira created. It was something Akira himself did not want to see, a reflection of himself that he did not want to see in his psyche. And it was information that connected to Akira's lost past. Although it was unclear at this point what this meant, Minami and the rest of the Task Force were released from the game world. The avatars that had been released into the game world were created by the quantum computer Yggdrasil, which controlled VR. Yggdrasil had become interested in Akira and had intervened, claiming that he was her first love.
Synopsis 9: Mimicry EX-ARM Edition
Minami was injured in a snatch-and-run incident in Tokyo and was treated at a hospital. At that time, a young housewife, Yuriko Maki, who met at the scene of a snatch-and-run theft, and Shiga from the countermeasures division run into each other. Yuriko's son-in-law was suffering from an incurable disease and required a large amount of money for treatment. However, Yuriko's husband died in a traffic accident, and it was an amount that an ordinary housewife like Yuriko could not possibly afford. Yuriko repeatedly committed snatch-and-run thefts using the mimicry EX-ARM. However, one day she was discovered by a criminal organization and was forced to cross an even more dangerous bridge.
Masquerade Ball
Yuriko was stealing drugs by mimicking a courier from a criminal organization. However, this did not last long, and she was eventually found out and put in a difficult situation. Then Shiga, the head of the countermeasures division, bursts in. Shiga intervenes in the conflict with the criminal organization, and Yuriko uses her ability to escape. However, the only place Yuriko could run to was to her son. However, Yuriko had a reason for not letting go of EX-ARM no matter what.
EX-ARM Solution of Mimicry
She was not Yuriko Maki. In reality, she was the biological mother who abandoned her son, drowning in alcohol and men. However, after her husband and her second wife Yuriko died in a traffic accident, she mimicked her kind second wife Yuriko to protect and encourage her son. Yuriko Maki, her real mother, Kyoka Nogami, was arrested, but Shiga arranged for her son to undergo surgery.
