"Dungeon Meshi" is a hugely popular manga that has won first place in numerous awards, including "This Manga is Amazing! 2016 Men's Edition" and "Recommended Comics of 2016, Chosen by Booksellers Nationwide." It is one of Kui Ryouko's signature works, and is currently being serialized in the manga magazine "Harta," published by KADOKAWA. The work is both an adventure and a gourmet story, with the protagonist conquering dungeons while cooking monsters that appear in classic fantasy works. In this article, we'd like to introduce the races of the characters that appear in "Dungeon Meshi."

Tallmans are a race virtually identical to real-life humans. As the name "Tallman" suggests, they are characterized by being taller than other races. Although they have a fair amount of physical ability and magical power, they are weaker than other races, and their lifespans are shorter than that of long-lived races. Tallmen vary in skin color and culture, and are divided into "northerners" and "southerners." Tallmen who appear in the series include Laios Toden, the protagonist of "Dungeon Meshi," his sister Farin Toden, Laios' former party member Shroe, and Kabru, the leader of a party of young adventurers.

Elfs are a long-lived race skilled in magic. They can live up to 500 years old. They are characterized by their long, pointed elven ears. Tallmen who appear in the story include Marsil, a party member of the protagonist Laios Toden, and the mad magician who transformed Laios's sister into a chimera.

"Dungeon Meshi" Race 3: Half-Foot

Half-foots are a small race with childlike appearances. They are characterized by their ears, which resemble enlarged versions of Tall Man ears. Their small size makes them agile, and their senses, such as hearing, are highly developed. Many Half-foots are locksmiths and thieves. However, they are not particularly well-suited for combat, and they do not seem to be particularly adept at magic. Half-foots appearing in the story include Chilchuck, a party member of the protagonist Laios Toden, and Mickbell, a party member of young adventurers.

Dwarves are a race with small, muscular, and sturdy bodies. Compared to Tallmen and other races, they are long-lived and powerful, and many dwarves become miners, blacksmiths, or warriors. They are not good at magic and are said to have the lowest aptitude for it. Dwarves who appear in the series include Senshi, a member of the protagonist Laios Toden's party; Namari, a former member of Laios's party; and Dia, a member of a party of young adventurers.

"Dungeon Meshi" Race ⑤: Gnome

Gnomes are a race characterized by their small stature, large ears, and large hands. They are the second most skilled in magic after elves, and are particularly adept at magic that deals with spirits and souls. Gnomes that appear in the series include the Tansu couple, who are researching sorcery, and Holm, a party member of a group of young adventurers.

Dungeon Meshi Race ⑥: Orcs

Orcs are a large, hairy race with horn-like structures on their heads and fangs instead of canines. Having previously lost a conflict with elves and fled to dungeons, they still hate elves and other races, making a living by plundering other races. This makes them a target for adventurers. However, they also seem to have developed their own culture and are able to hold discussions with them. Among the orcs appearing in the story is Chief Zon, the leader of the orcs, who is familiar with Senshi, a party member of the protagonist, Laios Toden.

Dungeon Food Race 7: Kobolds

Kobolds are a race with canine faces and a bipedal appearance. True to their appearance, they have exceptional hearing and smell, and are extremely loyal. They are also resistant to poison, and even poisons that would be instantly fatal to Tallmen only cause swelling. However, they appear to have lower intelligence than other races. Kobolds appearing in the series include Kuro, a member of a party of young adventurers.
