Dungeon Meshi, a fantasy and gourmet manga serialized in KADOKAWA's Harta magazine, explores how to deliciously prepare ingredients found while exploring dungeons. It concluded in September 2023. An anime adaptation is also scheduled for January 2024. We've compiled a list of the dishes featured in Dungeon Meshi! This is Part 2; the other dishes were covered in Part 1.

Monster Meal #27: Beef Rib Steak, Vegetable Slime, and Winged Fish Robe

料理26

This dish was served in a mysterious village to which Laios was led by the evil spirit possessing him. The villagers lived there for eternity, never aging or dying, under the curse of the labyrinth's ruler, the Mad Magician Sissle. The food served to them was made with monsters, and while it looked delicious, the curse had caused them to lose their sense of taste. Furthermore, they could avoid starvation and die without eating. Food was almost meaningless to them, and perhaps that's why it tasted so little.

Monster Dish #27: Sensei's Breakfast

料理27

Breakfast prepared by Sensei in the village. Unlike the food served in the labyrinth, which uses whatever ingredients were available, this was a hearty breakfast made with ingredients sourced from the village. The menu consists of four dishes: pancakes, sausages, pumpkin soup, and scrambled eggs.

Monster Dish #27: Skyfish and Chips

料理28

This fish and chips dish is made from the Skyfish familiar, which Marsil created using ingredients to rescue Senshi, who was captured and sacrificed by a griffin. Because the griffin has excellent eyesight and agility, a normal bird-like familiar would be no match for it. Marsil solved the problem by creating a Skyfish familiar, emphasizing functionality and speed. At first, Marsil found it disgusting, but after rescuing Senshi, he grew attached to it. However, Laios quickly turned it into a meal.

Monster Dish #29: Griffin Soup

Dish 29

Soup made from the griffin, a monster with the wings and upper body of an eagle and the lower body of a lion. The meat is tough, has a strong animal smell, and leaves a terrible aftertaste. However, to Sensei, this griffin soup was actually turtle soup. Turtle soup, a famous lateral thinking quiz, asks: "A man ordered turtle soup at a restaurant overlooking the ocean. After taking a sip, he asked the chef, 'Is this real turtle soup?' After confirming that it was, he committed suicide at home. Why did this happen?"

Monster Dish #2: Hippogriff Soup

料理30

Long ago, Senshi and his companions got lost in a labyrinth, and everyone except him was wiped out. With food scarce and falling out with each other, one by one, Senshi's companions died. The leader then gave Senshi griffin soup to drink. But was it really griffin soup? Perhaps it was actually the soup of a fellow comrade killed during a quarrel? The answer turns out to be not "griffin soup" but rather "hippogriff soup," a similar monster.

Monster Dish #27: Hippogriff Dumplings

Dish 31

The group's appearance was transformed into that of a different race by the Changeling, a fungus whose spores transform people into similar species. They continued on for a while, but gradually the inconveniences became apparent and they began to struggle. Meanwhile, they all made dumplings. Dumplings have their own recipes around the world, and they are a dish that has been embraced by all races. Famous versions include gyoza, meat buns, shumai, and gnocchi.

Monster Dish #27: Changeling Dumplings with a Fairy Ring

Cooking 32

After making a surplus of dumplings, they transformed them with the influence of the Changeling, transforming them into various types of dumplings. Now they can enjoy dumplings without getting bored. The group had a hard time with the Changeling, but the transformation was reversed by washing off the spores with water.

Monster Dish #22: Hamburgers with Changeling Sauce

料理33

After the group managed to reverse the Changeling's transformation, they encountered a large, walking mushroom-like Changeling and were transformed again. Realizing they were getting nowhere, Marsil crafted a potion using the Changeling as material to reverse the transformation, but Sensi used the potion without permission and made it into a hamburger sauce. The potion was meant to be an ointment, but it tasted quite good.

Monster Dish #24: Crunchy Mushroom and Egg Sandwich

Dish 34

A sandwich made with bread, changeling, cockatrice egg, mandrake leaves, and a moderate amount of seasoning. Having run out of meat from the journey, I decided to capture a black horse called a bichon, known for its love of depravity and adultery, for food. However, my party members weren't sufficiently depraved to attract its interest, so I quickly devoured it to attract its attention. This is the dish I made.

Monster Dish #22: Succubus Hot Milk

料理35

The party was attacked by a succubus and was in danger of being wiped out. Izutsumi, the only one who survived, managed to repel the succubus and warmed up the milk, seasoning it appropriately. Succubus are incredibly attractive women, so if they attacked alone, it would be almost impossible to survive. However, Izutsumi, with two minds in one body, was unaffected. This succubus is an insect with succubus-like properties. It's a species called a succubus mosquito, which has the ability to convert the nutrients it absorbs into breast milk. Real succubi do exist in this world.

Monster Dish #2: Succubus and Bicorn Doria

Dish 36

This doria uses the brain of a succubus mosquito larva and a bicone. Although the bicone was defeated, only the head was taken in a trade with the Dullahan, so only the brain is used. While the appearance of the ingredients makes this dish seem quite repulsive, it's surprisingly mild and delicious.

Monster Dish #3: Phoenix Confit & Side Dish

Dish 37

This is a confit of the immortal phoenix, which keeps reviving, covered in fire, no matter how many times it's killed. The phoenix is virtually untouchable, but by taking advantage of the labyrinth's rules, "All monsters cannot harm the people of the Golden Land" and "Once completely digested by another creature, they lose their right to revive," I was able to defeat it. Confit is a cooking method that involves slowly simmering the phoenix in low-temperature oil, preventing it from catching fire and reviving. A similar dish is ajillo, but the difference is the use of low-temperature oil.

Monster Dish #2: Decapitated Rabbit Curry

Dish #38

This curry is made with the meat of the Decapitated Rabbit, a legendary rabbit from the Labyrinth who is often found dead with his head chopped off. To save Farin, who has turned into a monster, they first need to fill him up and put him to sleep. So, everyone works together to make an extra-large curry. They manage to feed Farin and put him to sleep.

Monster Dish? Part 7: Steamed Senshi

Cooking 39

The party is surrounded by dragons summoned by the mad magician Sisyl. Senshi hides in a large pot, but is steamed by their breath...

Monster cuisine? Part 2: Izutsumi Marinated in Seawater

Cooking 40

Izutsumi fled to a nearby leviathan and was swallowed. He drowned and ended up floating.

Monster cuisine? Part 3: Chilchuck's Fish and Chips

Cooking 41

A Chilchuck frozen solid after being hit by the White Dragon's breath. It froze to death, and its face became hilarious.

Monster Cuisine? Part 7: Marsil's Nerve Strike

Cooking 42

Marsil was poisoned to death by the worm's poison gas! Now, only Laios remains in the party. What a crapshoot!

Monster Dish #4: Green Dragon Aquapazza

Dish 43

After Laios's epic battle, I made an aquapazza using green dragon meat, a nightmare, and wyvern flames. We sit down together to persuade the mad magician, Sisyl, but...

Monster Dish #4: Golden Land Dragon

Cooking 44

This dish uses the meat of the Green Dragon, which somehow shrank after reviving everyone after a fierce battle. The Green Dragon is roasted whole in a stone oven, then wrapped in a thin layer of flour. Made with whatever ingredients were on hand, it's delicious and apparently pairs well with alcohol.
