The anime "Dungeon Meshi," scheduled to air from January 2024, is a fantasy and gourmet story about a group of people exploring a tricky dungeon filled with various monsters. With no money to buy food, they survive by cooking the monsters they find in the dungeon. With the anime adaptation underway, we've compiled a summary of the series' outline, production staff, and cast information!
Dungeon Meshi Overview!
Dungeon Meshi was serialized in KADOKAWA's ten-issue-a-year manga magazine, Harta, from February 14, 2014 to September 15, 2023. The author is Ryoko Kui. The story features classic dungeons similar to Wizardry and the imaginary monsters that appear there, and explores how to cook them deliciously using modern recipes and techniques. However, for the characters, cooking the monsters deliciously is a means, not an end in itself; rather, they are driven to progress through the dungeon, even using the monsters as ingredients, in order to achieve a certain goal.
A Brief Plot Summary of Dungeon Meshi!
The party led by Thorman Laios is defeated after fighting a red dragon while not in top condition, resulting in the party's annihilation. Just before the dungeon was destroyed, one of the party members, Laios' sister Farin, used teleportation magic to help the party escape, but Farin was eaten by the red dragon and was unable to escape. While some of the party left penniless, Laios suggested that they go search for Farin using the monsters in the dungeon as food to save on food costs. Despite his knowledge, Laios did not know how to cook monsters. However, he was accompanied by Sensi, a dwarf who was researching monster cuisine, and together with Marsil, the elf wizard, and Chilchuck, the half-foot scout, they once again venture into the dungeon.
