Marsil, a beautiful female elf magician, is one of the characters in "Dungeon Meshi," which is scheduled to be adapted into an anime in January 2024. She could be called the heroine of the story, but due to the nature of the story, she feels an aversion to using monsters as food, and as such is one of the most comedic characters in the series. Marsil's comedy scenes are one of the highlights of the series! Here we've put together a collection of some of Marsil's funniest scenes!
Funny Marsil #1: No way!
After being wiped out in battle with the Red Dragon, the party narrowly escaped thanks to the teleportation magic of protagonist Laios's sister, Farin. However, Farin was left behind and eaten by the Red Dragon. Despite efforts to recover Farin's body and revive her, the party lost all their belongings and became penniless, leading some members to drop out. Meanwhile, Marsil and Chilchuck regroup to rescue Farin. However, Laios, who had no money for food, suggested they "use the dungeon's monsters as food to save money." Marsil, who has a strong aversion to eating monsters, declares "No!" in realistic manga writing! This scene is emblematic of the series.
Funny Marsil #2: Breakdancing Marsil
After the sequence "Let's capture monsters for food" followed by "No!", Marsil begins breakdancing, either protesting or simply unable to sit still, yelling "No, no, absolutely not!" Being an elf, she seems to hate eating monsters so much that she's breakdancing.
Funny Marsil #3: What is he talking about?
Marsil, caught by a man-eating plant, is freed when Laios cuts the plant's vines. According to Laios, the plant is a parasitic predator that implants its seeds in the skin of living creatures. It needs to capture its target without letting them escape or killing them, and the tightness of its grip is exquisitely balanced to ensure it's not too uncomfortable. So, what did Marsil think? Look at his face. It turns out like this too.
Funny Marsil #4: Marsil's Brain Got Strange
Marsil is knowledgeable, but he's all talk and a bit of a bigot. Mandrake is a plant that turns people crazy when it hears a scream. He'd read about how to harvest it, but he'd never actually done it. Senshi's more experienced method of "pulling it out and killing it before it starts screaming" was less time-consuming. So, to prove he was right, he tried it himself, and when he heard the scream, his brain went completely awry. It didn't completely go awry, and he quickly recovered.
Funny Marsil #5: Iris-Out Marsil
In fact, the Mandrake had a drawback: Sensei's method left a bitter taste. Marsil unwillingly proved himself right, but then he declared, "I've had enough of eating monsters!" and iris-out (the kind of punchline used in comedy anime). This scene is quite famous, and there are many photoshopped versions of it.
Funny Marsil #6: Let Me Eat Other Parts Too
Marsil angered Undine and was injured, but he had run out of magical power for healing and was short on both magic and blood. So the group cooked aquatic horse meat, feeding Marsil specifically the liver. Apparently the other parts were quite tasty, but the injured Marsil desperately needed more blood, so they forced the liver on him. And then, Marsil said this.
Funny Marsil #7: Frog Marsil
After defeating a giant frog monster in the dungeon, the group finds themselves unable to proceed due to the countless tentacles (cnidaria) growing along the way. However, for some reason, the giant frog is unaffected by the tentacles, so they craft a slimy frog suit out of frog skin to continue on their way. Naturally, Marsil doesn't want to wear a slimy frog suit like that, but he's persuaded by the promise that it looks cute when he tries it on. And this is his face.
Interesting Marsil #8: Marsil Wants to Escape Reality
Marsil has endured the revulsion of eating monster food throughout his adventures, but he decides that if he wants to save Farin, he can no longer afford to be extravagant. However, immediately afterward, Laios brings him a fruit that looks exactly like a human face. Seeing the realistic face, Marsil looks off into the distance and tries to investigate the magic that can turn back time.
Interesting Marsil #9: The Most Brilliant Marsil Since the School Started
Attacked by a monster called a Cockatrice, similar to the Basilisk they previously fought, but several times more dangerous, the party decides to fight back against the Cockatrice using the same method they used to defeat the Basilisk. However, to do so, they needed to intimidate the Cockatrice with all their might and in a spectacular fashion. Marsil was the most brilliant girl at her school since its inception, and was highly respected by those around her. Here's Marsil's full-power intimidation. Marsil, setting aside his shame, reputation, pride, and character, challenges the labyrinth with all his might. This is his most intimidating scene.
Funny Marsil #10: Marsil turns to stone in a tsukkomi pose
After being bitten by a cockatrice, Marsil is told by Laios how to deal with cockatrice bites. However, the advice isn't to avoid being petrified, but to stabilize one's position if petrified. Marsil can't help but make a tsukkomi remark, but the petrification begins and he turns to stone in the tsukkomi pose... Even Chilchuck said that this is something he doesn't want to end up like.
Funny Marsil #11: Don't use people as pickle stones
The party struggled to undo Marsil's petrification and finally succeeded. They used him as a pickle stone to stabilize his position and for cooking. With Marsil unpetrified, the pickles turned out delicious. The first thing Marsil wanted to say after being unpetrified was, "Don't use people as pickle stones."
Funny Marsil #12: Marsil accidentally turns out to be the real thing
The illusions created by the Shapeshifter, a monster capable of casting illusions, have increased the number of party members. Most of them are fake, but it's difficult to tell them apart. Laios decides to determine who is the real one by having everyone cook and observe them. Laios notices Marsil's carelessness in throwing away the cooking water. Marsil once caused Undine to become enraged, causing great suffering. If he were the real thing, he'd be wary... but the carelessness of Marsil makes him seem more real.
Interesting Marsil #13: Fly! Marsil
The party, whose species has been transformed by the spores of a changeling mushroom, is attacked by gargoyles. The changelings have the ability to change species when they pass through a ring. The party, covered in the spores, creates a ring and attempts to neutralize the gargoyles by passing through it. In order to get the gargoyles to pass through the ring, Marsil, who has transformed into a half-foot, must fly. This is actually the most physically demanding moment.
Funny Marsil #14: Bad Taste
Succubuses are terrifying monsters that approach you with a figure so alluring it makes you weak in the knees, sucking your energy. If you're isolated, you're finished. They must be dealt with in pairs. Senshi is defeated, and Raios is easily defeated. Marsil and Chilchuck try to deal with them as a pair, but Chilchuck bursts out laughing because Marsil's ideal partner is so bad taste. While he's laughing, he's defeated, and the party almost gets wiped out.
