"Dungeon Meshi" is a hugely popular manga that has won first place in numerous awards, including "This Manga is Amazing! 2016 Men's Edition" and "Recommended Comics of 2016, Chosen by Booksellers Nationwide." It is one of Kui Ryouko's signature works, and is currently being serialized in the manga magazine "Harta," published by KADOKAWA. The work is both an adventure and a gourmet story, as the protagonist conquers dungeons while cooking monsters that appear in classic fantasy works. In this article, we'd like to introduce the magic and skills used by the characters that appear in "Dungeon Meshi."
Return Magic

This magic appears at the beginning of the story. Faris Toden, the younger sister of the protagonist, Laios Toden, uses it to help a party member who was in trouble escape from the dungeon. At the time, he was in the deepest part of the dungeon inhabited by the red dragon, but he was able to return to the surface in an instant, so it seems that depth doesn't matter. Also, while he managed to escape with five people, it is unknown how many people can be returned.
Healing Magic

As you progress through the dungeon, you can't avoid encountering monsters. Furthermore, you'll likely be attacked by them. Healing magic is essential in such dungeons. It's primarily used by Marsil. Marsil activates his staff by holding the round, looped part at the top over the injury and chanting the spell. Healing magic seems to be one of the easiest types of magic to learn, and the warrior Laios Toden has apparently mastered it. One thing to note is that if you heal a serious injury in a short amount of time, you will be hit with a pain called recovery pain.
Walking on Water

Dungeons often contain lakes formed by underground water. To reach the other side of a lake, you'll need the "Walking on Water" spell. As the name suggests, casting this spell on a target allows you to walk on water. Previously, the dwarf Sensi had the elf Marsil cast this spell on him, but because Sensi rarely washed his beard and other parts of his body, the blood and oil on his beard acted as an insulator, and the spell did not work on him. Incidentally, it seems that the spell can also be cast on monsters.
Resurrection Technique

This resurrection technique can only be used in dungeons. This is because dungeons are apparently enchanted with powerful magic, binding people's souls to their bodies. Because of this, no matter how damaged their bodies are, they will return to normal as long as the damage is healed. However, it seems that the chances of reviving decrease if more than 1/13 of the body is lost or if the person is carbonized. Furthermore, if a person is revived while possessed by a ghost, their souls will mix together, and in the worst case scenario, their personalities may also become mixed. The gnome Tansu used this spell when the dwarf Namali was shot in the head by an Undine, a collection of spirits, and died instantly. It can apparently be used by chanting and holding your hand over the injury. When you do so, it appears that some kind of light will be generated.
Magic to Enhance Defense

This magic can protect against fire and injury. Before Raios Toden and his friends' sister, Farin Toden, was eaten by the Red Dragon, Farin would cast this spell on them before fighting dragons.
