"Welcome to the Classroom of the Elite" tells the story of the protagonists' growth through various battles at a school where merit is the only way to succeed. The anime aired its first and second seasons, both of which were well-received, and the third season, scheduled to air in January 2024, is already generating buzz. Those who have read the original manga or watched the anime have likely experienced many memorable scenes that moved them deeply. In this article, we'll take a look back at the series so far and introduce our top five memorable scenes! Did your favorite scene make the list?

Story Overview

The story is set at the prestigious Advanced Nurturing High School. The school is said to have a nearly 100% rate of students going on to higher education and finding employment, and students are paid points equivalent to 100,000 yen per month, making it a laissez-faire school. Our protagonist, Ayanokoji Kiyotaka, is assigned to the school's D class, which is full of problem children. One month after enrolling, it is revealed that the points that are supposed to be deposited into the student's account every month are not being deposited into the D class students' accounts, and that this is due to the students' self-indulgent lifestyles. In fact, the system is set up so that only students with excellent grades receive preferential treatment. This is where school life begins at this ultra-meritocratic school.

No. 5: Ayanokoji and Karuizawa, finally...

Many readers have wondered about the relationship between Kiyotaka Ayanokoji and Kei Karuizawa as the story progresses. After Ayanokoji and Sho Ryuen's rooftop fight, their relationship rapidly deepens, and just before the second-year arc begins, Ayanokoji and Karuizawa become lovers. While this series features a variety of heroines, readers may have been surprised to see Karuizawa become such a central character. Karuizawa, especially in the beginning, was selfish and free-spirited, often having questionable comments and actions, making it hard to imagine her as a potential partner for the protagonist. We look forward to seeing their relationship deepen even further!

#4: Ayanokoji on a Deserted Island

The Deserted Island Arc is perhaps best remembered by many as a full-scale special exam. While various characters demonstrated various actions during this arc, the performance of the protagonist, Kiyotaka Ayanokoji, was particularly noteworthy. One of the heroines, Suzune Horikita, was saved by Ayanokoji during the Deserted Island Arc. Horikita tries to demonstrate leadership but fails every time, painfully realizing her own lack of ability and the importance of her teammates. At such a time, she is saved by Ayanokoji's solo actions. However, in fact, Horikita's setbacks were all part of Ayanokoji's plan. Ayanokoji persists in his solo actions, and in the end, his D class wins. This was the first scene in the story where Ayanokoji's talent became visibly apparent. On the surface, Ayanokoji's actions don't seem like anything special, just casual actions. However, when you finally realize that each of his actions actually had meaning, you can fully appreciate his talent as a strategist.

3rd Place: Battle with the New Students

A group of first-year students conspire to force Kiyotaka Ayanokoji to drop out. Without even knowing who the White Room members were, a new student attempts to frame the protagonist, a shocking turn of events. One new student, Kazuomi Hosen, has a very violent personality but is also extremely intelligent, fulfilling his role as a wise leader. Despite his gyaru-like appearance, Ichika Amasawa is also quite a tricky character, and succeeds in cornering Ayanokoji to the point where he is one step away from expulsion. However, when attacked, Ayanokoji resists in an unexpected way: stabbing his own hand against the knife aimed at him. Since this incident, Housen has begun calling Ayanokoji "senpai." Housen only shows respect to those he recognizes, so Ayanokoji's presence must have been extremely significant.

2nd Place: Showing His True Colors at the Sports Festival

Aside from the Deserted Island Arc, the Sports Festival Arc is perhaps the scene that truly shows Ayanokoji Kiyotaka's greatness. There's a relay race at the sports festival where he competes against Horikita Manabu, Suzune Horikita's brother, and this scene is particularly worth watching. A one-on-one battle between Ayanokoji and Manabu was set to take place as the anchor of the relay. Ayanokoji loses pace due to an accident, but the students around him are astonished by his subsequent running. It shows Ayanokoji running with a level of seriousness that is unthinkable under normal circumstances. This is the first time that Ayanokoji gets serious in a way that is directly noticeable to those around him. Also, in the sports festival arc, a character named Kushida Kikyo betrays the group, but Ayanokoji sees through Kushida's betrayal. However, for a certain reason, he chooses not to stop the betrayal. Normally, he would have prevented the betrayal, but to tolerate it for the sake of his own plan shows his talent as a strategist.

No. 1: Ayanokoji vs. Ryuen

The rooftop showdown between Kiyotaka Ayanokoji and Sho Ryuen is one of the most memorable scenes in the series. Kei Karuizawa is held captive by Ryuen and his men and told to reveal the identity of the mastermind. When she refuses, she is brutally tortured. Ryuen reveals that she is being used by the mastermind, but Karuizawa still refuses to reveal that Ayanokoji is the mastermind. Then, Ayanokoji appears, instantly defeating Ryuen's allies, and Ryuen is completely defeated by Ayanokoji. Ayanokoji has always been known as a strategist, using his intellect to fight, but in this scene, he confronts his enemy head-on for the first time. Showing a new side of himself and a strength never before seen, Ayanokoji had a profound impact on those around him.
