As the title suggests, Arifureta: From Commonplace to World's Strongest is the success story of Hajime Nagumo, who is summoned to another world and finds his calling in the mundane profession of alchemist, but rises to become the world's strongest. Originally published as a web novel, it gained popularity and was published as a book. Finally, an anime adaptation is scheduled to begin airing in July 2019. This time, we'll be introducing the exploits of Hajime Nagumo as an alchemist.
The Protagonist: Hajime Nagumo, the Alchemist
Hajime Nagumo is summoned to the other world of Tortus along with his classmates. The reason they were summoned was that their world was considered superior to Tortus, and Nagumo and his friends, who grew up there, were able to obtain superior jobs and status to ordinary humans. Hajime Nagumo's calling was to become an alchemist. While those around him were gaining excellent jobs like heroes and boasting superior stats, his status was practically the same as that of humans in this world.
Participating in the Battle as an Alchemist
Alchemists are typically crafting jobs, and are considered unsuited for combat. Meanwhile, he visits the labyrinth as part of his training to fight the demons. Although he had weakened the monster and it looked like he could have easily defeated it, Nagumo decided to be extra careful and used his transmutation to immobilize it and deliver the final blow. While it wasn't considered a practical job, Nagumo put his skills to good use in battle.
Stopping the Behemoth as a Transmuter
A powerful enemy, Behemoth, suddenly appeared from a trap in the Orcus Labyrinth. The group was attacked from behind by a horde of monsters. Nagumo volunteered to help stop the Behemoth. Having successfully stalled the Behemoth, Nagumo now only needed to escape its pursuit. He left the attacks to the magic group. But then, to his surprise, he was betrayed and attacked by a classmate, falling to the lower levels.
Nagumo Survives and Grows Stronger as an Alchemist
Hajime Nagumo fell to the lower levels. A monster he encountered immediately bit off his right arm, forcing him to flee into a tunnel. He prepared himself for death. However, his determination to survive led him to decide to fight the monsters. So he decided to wait for a monster to get caught in a trap he had created through transmutation. Once the prey was caught, he would attack it relentlessly and then return to the tunnel, which he had also sealed with transmutation to prevent prey from entering. To survive, he began eating the monsters he killed. This dramatically increased his stats and even allowed him to acquire the skills of the monsters he ate.
The Transmuter Who Created a Gun
Nagumo Hajime gradually grew stronger. He appraised ore and used the hardest mineral to create a gun. He also uses a skill he acquired from a monster: a gun that can infuse lightning into bullets, doubling their power. Using this gun, Nagumo defeats the monster that stole his right arm. Afterward, he uses transmutation to create his own prosthetic arm and the eye he lost in battle. Will his body gradually become more like a cyborg?
An Alchemist Who Creates Weapons for His Companions
In the labyrinth, he travels with the vampire Yue, and his travel companions gradually increase in number. (They're all girls.) Nagumo even creates weapons and armor suited to their special abilities. Yue received an accessory crafted from divine crystals capable of storing magical power. Shia received a war hammer-shaped artifact. Thanks to Nagumo's efforts, they successfully cleared the labyrinth. It will be interesting to see what kind of weapons Nagumo will create in the future.
The Alchemist Who Became the Strongest in an Orcus Job
Hajime Nagumo, an alchemist who learned the truth of this world by clearing the Orcus Labyrinth, decided to challenge the Seven Great Labyrinths in order to obtain the ancient magic that can be obtained by clearing the Seven Great Labyrinths of the Liberators, and to return to his own world. He was summoned as a pawn in the god's game, along with the Liberators who once challenged the gods and lost. The Seven Great Labyrinths exist to inherit their will and assist humans who challenge the gods. What circumstances await Nagumo in the future?
