Arifureta: From Commonplace to World's Strongest was first posted on the Let's Become a Novelist website, where it gained popularity and was later turned into a novel. It has also been decided that it will be made into an anime starting in July 2019. Judging from the promotional video, it looks like it will be a very high-quality piece of visual content. The story actually has a very elaborate setting, and the world the main characters are summoned to and the truth behind it make it even more fascinating. So, in this article, we will introduce the setting and truth behind this world.
Why Was the Protagonist Summoned to This World?
The story begins with the protagonist, Hajime Nagumo, and his high school classmates being summoned to another world, Tortus. They were summoned to this world because their original world was superior to Tortus and possessed greater powers than the humans of this country to which they were summoned. Currently, humans are engaged in a war with the demon race, but since the demon race began using magical beasts, the battle has been difficult. Nagumo and his classmates were summoned to this world to break this cycle.
Powers of This World
In Tortus, the powers seem to differ depending on the race. Humans are found in the northern region, demons in the southern region, and demi-humans in the eastern region. Humans often treat demi-humans as slaves, and there is a conflict between humans and demi-humans. Demi-humans also fight against demons, resulting in a situation where these three races are at odds with each other. In human towns, demi-humans are bought and sold as slaves, and demi-human villages are depicted as being extremely reluctant to have humans invade.
The Truth Behind the Conflict in This World
Our protagonist, Nagumo, is betrayed by his companions and thrown into the lower levels of the labyrinth, forcing him to fight alone within it. There, he meets Yue, who joins him. After conquering the labyrinth, Nagumo Hajime learns the truth of this world: the conflict between humans, demi-humans, and demons is a game played by a god, with humans as pawns. In other words, Nagumo and his friends were summoned as pawns in this game. The very purpose of the labyrinth's existence is to bestow the power to slay a god upon anyone who completes all of the labyrinths.
What are Labyrinths and Liberators?
In the past, there were people who realized the truth of this world. These people were called Liberators. They challenged God and attempted to defeat Him, but were defeated. The defeated Liberators created the Seven Great Labyrinths to empower those who would discover the truth of this world in the future. By clearing all seven great labyrinths, one can obtain the power to defeat God. This is the Ancient Magic. Each time one uria a labyrinth, one can obtain this Ancient Magic.
What are the Seven Great Labyrinths of This World?
The labyrinth where the protagonist falls into after being betrayed by his companions is Oscar Orcus' Labyrinth. After clearing it, he is granted the power of Creation Magic. Next, he and Yue and Shea head to the Great Raisen Labyrinth, one of the Seven Great Labyrinths. A wielder of "gravity magic," he is the only Liberator who survives by transferring his soul into a golem using "soul magic." The remaining labyrinths are the great volcano in the center of the desert, the Gruen Volcano, a test of endurance, the Madness Test located offshore in the western sea, the Melusine Undersea Ruins, the Chestnut Headquarters, the Sacred Mountain, a test of will, the Haltina Test, a test of bonds at the great tree Ua Alt in the eastern sea of trees, and finally the Ice and Snow Cave of Vanduul Schnee.
Summary of How This World Works
The manga is still in the middle of the story. It's unclear how far the anime will go. I'm really curious to see how the story continues!
