"The story of a certain town, of certain girls"
"Academy City" is a town with a total population of 2.3 million, 80% of which are students. The students in the city have a curriculum in which they learn to develop psychic powers, and are primarily divided by level. Levels range from Level 0 (powerless) to Level 5 (psychic), and students are constantly studying every day to reach higher levels. A Certain Scientific Railgun is a story that centers around Misaka Mikoto, a railgun who is one of only seven Level 5s in Academy City, as she takes on various incidents related to the city's darkness.

The protagonist of A Certain Scientific Railgun, a spin-off of Index, and one of only seven Level 5s in Academy City who attend Tokiwadai Middle School, she is the top Electromaster and third in Academy City, and is the strongest Electric Princess, nicknamed Railgun. She has a very kind and caring personality, but because she cares about her friends too much, she sometimes keeps things to herself because she doesn't want to involve them. She has a strong affection for Kamijou Touma, the main character of the main story, whom she met by chance, even though she doesn't admit it to herself.

The main character of the main story, A Certain Magical Index, he has a right hand that can nullify the ability called Imagine Breaker. However, in Academy City, his ability is considered to be level 0. Although he only made relatively small appearances in A Certain Scientific Railgun, he played a major role towards the end of the Sisters Arc. Perhaps due to his personality, he has a tendency to get caught up in trouble very easily, and he is involved in almost all of the major incidents that occur in Academy City. He considers himself to be the most unlucky person in the world, and is constantly muttering and lamenting how "unlucky" he is.
Misaka and Kamijyou's encounter

The two met when Kamijo came to the rescue of Misaka, who was being harassed by delinquents (although he mostly just ignored them and was wondering how to get rid of them), in a typical meeting setting. Misaka didn't need help, so she had no intention of going along with the setting at all. Then, when Kamijo lectured the delinquents about whether they were ashamed of targeting a child like that, Misaka, who was treated like a child, lost her temper and discharged her body, but for some reason Kamijo was completely unscathed. Misaka didn't know what had happened, and Kamijo ran away. This was the meeting between Kamijo Touma, the protagonist of Index, and Misaka Mikoto, the protagonist of A Certain Scientific Railgun.

Frustrated by Kamijou, who calls his own ability Level 0, having his powers cancelled out, and with his pride as a Level 5 hurt, Misaka challenges Kamijou to a serious fight. As a result, Misaka launches a variety of attacks, all of which are drowned out by her right hand, and just when she thinks she's about to lose, Kamijo pretends to lose on purpose in an act of half-hearted kindness. This further hurts Misaka's pride, but she also begins to enjoy fighting an opponent who is unharmed even when she goes all out, and from this point on, they develop a relationship where they settle things whenever they meet.

Kamijo witnesses Misaka being harassed by delinquents, just like when they first met, and tries to provoke the delinquents and get them to chase him, drawing them away from Misaka. That's right, it wasn't to protect Misaka, but the delinquents from Misaka (lol). However, Misaka doesn't like Kamijo's actions and challenges him to a duel as usual. Misaka goes all out against the incomprehensible Illusion Breaker ability, but in the end she overdoes it and the city's powers short out, forcing her to put an end to the fight.

They meet frequently after that, but Misaka is still as belligerent as ever, while Kamijo is lethargic, so it doesn't become a very intense battle, and it's more like a small argument. Kamijo always calls Misaka "electric" and it has become customary for him to complain about it.

In the second half of the Sisters arc, when Misaka was ready to be killed by Accelerator and went to fight, Kamijyou stood in her way. Misaka's decision to take responsibility and put an end to it is because she provided the DNA map, which resulted in the creation of her sisters who were simply killed, but Kamijou dismisses it. He says that if she did that, her remaining sisters wouldn't be grateful to her, and that Misaka herself wouldn't be saved that way. Hearing this, Misaka wavers, but with no other plan, she uses her powers seriously at Kamijou, telling him not to say nice things, but Kamijou doesn't defend at all and takes it all. His right hand should be able to negate it, but instead he takes all of Misaka's grief on his own body. He then leaves, promising Misaka that he'll bring his sisters back with him.
Changes in relationships after the Sisters arc

Up until then, Misaka probably only thought of her as a member of the opposite sex who she was a little interested in, but after the Sisters arc, it was clearly depicted that she had feelings for Kamijo, and she was always acting shy, affectionate, or cold in front of him. Of course, it was inevitable that he would fall in love with someone who did so much for him. And from this point on, he started calling Misaka by her name, instead of calling her Biri-Biri.
The existence of Index

For those who don't know, Kamijou lives with a sister called Index. They are not lovers yet, but they trust each other very much and their relationship is quite good. She also sees Misaka as someone who follows Kamijo around, and openly antagonizes him, calling her "short hair." Misaka, on the other hand, is surprised that they are living together, but acts as tsundere as ever and pretends not to be interested, so they are rivals after all.

Misaka was asked to act as a pseudo-couple on the premise that she would receive her favorite Gekota product, which is only available to couples. Kamijo was completely calm and it seemed like there was nothing that could be done about it, but Misaka was constantly excited, taking advantage of the situation and becoming a real maiden when it came to Kamijo. Misaka was extremely embarrassed and very cute.
Kamijo, Misaka, and Shokuho

This is a scene from the Daihasei Festival arc, where the three of them are together for the first time. Kamijou questions why Misaka and Shokuhou are classmates because of the difference in their chest sizes, and Kamijou and Shokuhou tease Misaka by calling her always angry and irritable. It was a pretty rare scene, so it was very funny, and from this point on Misaka has become relatively calm around Kamijou. In the Daihasei Festival arc, the Misaka family and the Kamijou family happened to encounter each other, and they got to know each other as families.

This time Misaka herself becomes a victim of an experiment in which she is forced to evolve to Level 6, and Misaka goes out of control and becomes uncontrollable, so Kamijo and Gunba Sogiita, ranked 7th, do their best to rescue her. It seems as though they've finally lost control of Misaka, who has become a thunder god and is uncontrollable, but then something strange happens and they manage to rescue Misaka safely. And at the end, they say some cool lines that make Misaka fall head over heels for them.

Between Kamijo and Saten, Kamijo owes Saten something to her, and as a thank you, Saten asks her to dance the folk dance together at the end of the Daihasei Festival. Misaka is sad to see this, but Saten, who has noticed Misaka's feelings for her, suddenly says that her feet hurt and asks Misaka to dance with Kamijo instead. Misaka is flustered by this sudden request and tries to refuse, saying that it would be bad for Saten, but Saten, unusually, pressures her with all her might to make her say yes. And Misaka ends up dancing with Kamijo. It's a great scene between the two of them, and Saten did a great job here.

Misaka-chan started off as a quarrelling partner, but ended up falling head over heels in love. Unfortunately, Kamijo still thinks of her as just a friendly middle school friend, but we'll have to keep an eye on their relationship to see how it develops, and what will happen to their biggest rival, In-something-san. Misaka is also really charming, as she's a hero without Kamijo, but becomes a tsundere heroine in front of him. Let's continue to look forward to following their relationship! Thank you for reading to the end.
