This is a battle action series written by Daisuke Ashihara that began serialization in Weekly Shonen Jump in 2013. It has been serialized in Jump Square since 2019. The first season of the anime (73 episodes in total) aired from October 2014 to April 2016, and the second season is scheduled to air in 2020. Border is an organization that protects the Earth from Neighbors (near-worlders). The protagonist, Osamu Mikumo, who belongs to the organization, meets Yuma Kuga, a Neighbor who came from outside the gate. Mikumo fights the Neighbors who have attacked the school, but Kuga uses a "trigger" to help him when he is struggling. Mikumo of Border and Kuga of Neighbor, two people who should be enemies, end up joining forces to fight. In this article, I would like to introduce Yuichi Jin, an elite member of the Border team who guides Osamu, Yuma, and Chika.
Jin Yuichi, an S-class elite of Border's Tamakoma branch
Jin Yuichi is an elite who belongs to the Tamakoma branch, and is ranked S-class. S-class means that he has a black trigger. Since S-class members cannot participate in rank battles, it is difficult to know his strength within Border, but he is quite skilled, to the point that Yuma may not be able to beat Jin even if he goes all out. He is free-spirited and seems frivolous at first glance, but he is solid inside and is very considerate of his juniors. He is one of the few members who can speak up to Border headquarters, and his presence is among the best within Border. He listens obediently to what Tamakoma Branch Chief Hayashido says, but there are times when he opposes Border HQ, and the HQ has a hard time dealing with Jin, who doesn't act as they want him to.
Jin Yuichi Takes Osamu
Osamu, who violated the rules of the unit, was called to HQ and a meeting was held to decide how to punish him. Osamu was fired without question, but HQ Chief Shinoda opposed the punishment, saying that someone who can act this much in an emergency is valuable. After hearing both sides' side of the story, Commander Kido bluntly dismisses Osamu, saying that while Chief Oshida has a point, Border doesn't need people who can't follow the rules. Apart from Osamu's punishment, this meeting was also a place to discuss the recent spate of irregular gates. Jin had been called to the meeting to get to the bottom of this. Jin accepts the mission, but on the condition that he be allowed to deal with Osamu, Jin tells him that Osamu is deeply involved in the current incident. Commander Kido also believes Jin's words, and leaves Osamu's punishment in his hands.
Jin's Side Effect
Side effects are super-senses that are rarely manifested by those with high Trion abilities, and they mean "side effects." Jin's side effect was that he could see a little into the future. This allowed Jin to see a future where Osamu would meet someone who would tell him the mystery of the irregular gate. That's why he asked me to leave Osamu's disposal to him! Jin's side effect allows him to see many other things besides this, and plays an important role in the work.
Jin Yuichi is ordered to capture the black trigger
Border Headquarters finds out that Yuma is a black trigger. Commander Kido orders Jin to capture Yuma. Commander Kido thinks that a black trigger can be countered by another black trigger. Yuma has the ability to defeat four A-class members at the same time, but it's a different story when he's up against Jin, who has a black trigger. Yuma himself says he doesn't know if he can win. However, Jin refuses the order. Jin belongs to the Tamakoma branch. Commander Kido said that he has no direct command authority and will only act if ordered by his direct superior, Branch Chief Hayashido. This is why HQ has a hard time dealing with him (lol). Commander Kido gives orders to Branch Chief Hayashido, who in turn orders Jin to capture the Black Trigger. However, on the condition that the method is left up to Jin. Just as you'd expect from Jin's superior. He does things differently from the other executives. Well, it must be difficult for the organization to have people like Tamakoma who don't listen to orders and act freely...
This is how Jin Yuichi does it
Jin is ordered by Branch Chief Hayashido to capture Yuma, so he invites Yuma to Border. Jin believes that the simplest method is best, but this is a very straightforward way of doing things. Of course, this is not to take him to the headquarters, but merely to invite him to the Tamakoma Branch to which Jin belongs. There are many members of the Tamakoma Branch who have been to the other world, so they are not surprised that Yuma is a Neighbor. Yuma decides to go to the Tamakoma Branch on the condition that Osamu and Chika are with him. This is a method that only Jin, who understands the Neighbors, could do!
Jin Yuichi's Black Trigger
A black trigger is a special trigger that is generated when a user with excellent Trion abilities pours their life and all of their Trion into it in order to leave their power behind in the world even after death. Jin's black trigger was something that his master, Mogami Souichi, left behind before he died. And Mogami Souichi was one of the founding members of Border and an acquaintance of Yuma's father, whom Yuma was looking for.
"Wind Blade"
Jin's black trigger has an ability called "Wind Blade". It spreads a slash to an object and can attack anywhere within the line of sight. The band of light coming out of the blade is the remaining bullets of "Wind Blade", and if it is all consumed, there will be a small gap before reloading. In addition, it is a very advantageous ability in long-distance battles that can attack anywhere, but it cannot be used if the distance is closed. Although it is not as threatening as Yuma's black trigger with the copy ability, "Wind Blade" is very compatible with Jin's side effect of future prediction, and no one can use "Wind Blade" as well as Jin.
"Kazane" was a black trigger with few quirks
Black triggers can only be used by people who have good compatibility with them, and if they are not compatible, they will not activate. However, "Kazane" is not very picky, and there were more than 20 people who could activate it. After a battle between all the candidates, Jin ended up owning it. Jin probably wanted to use the black trigger, which was also a keepsake from his master. "Kazane" has strong abilities, but the fact that it has few quirks and many people can activate it also increases its value. By the way, Tachikawa, who was Jin's rival at the time, was not selected as a candidate and was not able to participate in the battle. Because Jin possessed the black trigger, he became S-class and could no longer participate in rank battles, so it can be said that the battle with Tachikawa has not been settled.
Don't let your juniors get in your way
Commander Kido, who doesn't want Tamakoma to possess the black trigger, orders the recapture of the black trigger as soon as Border's most elite troops return from their expedition. The elite troops, led by "No. 1 attacker" Tachikawa Kei, will attack Tamakoma at night. Jin must have sensed this due to his side effect. He was trying to get ahead of Tachikawa and the others' route and stop them. The reason Jin didn't join Osamu and the others in their training was to prevent this night attack without making it public. He's usually a joker, but it's cool that Jin secretly goes out of his way to protect his cute junior!
Jin Yuichi was well prepared for the attack
Fights between Border members outside of mock battles are a violation of the Border rules. In response to the opinion that he would still get in the way, Jin argues that Yuma is also a fine Border member. There is no rule that says Neighbors can't be recruited, and Yuma, who went through the proper procedures to join Tamakoma, is a genuine Border member. However, Tachikawa and the others insist that HQ won't recognize him as a Border member until the official day of enlistment, so they push through. Even for Jin, who has a black trigger, it will be an uphill battle taking on multiple elite troops who reign at the top of the A-rank. Jin, who doesn't overestimate his own strength and judges things calmly, has requested reinforcement from Arashiyama's unit.
Jin Yuichi's Negotiation
Jin and Arashiyama's joint team defeated Tachikawa and the others and protected Yuma. With Chief Oshinobu on their side, Jin now has the upper hand and is forcing Commander Kido to negotiate. The condition is that Yuma officially joins Border. Of course, this is not something that will be easily agreed to, but Jin offers his "Kazane" as compensation.
He won the battle to obtain the black trigger, and it's also a keepsake from his master. It seemed like a tough decision for Jin, but Jin was glad that the conflict between Border members had ended. Jin isn't obsessed with his black trigger, and all he wanted was to create an environment where his juniors could compete with each other within Border like they had done. For that reason, he didn't even think about giving up his black trigger. Also, by giving up his black trigger, Jin will go from S-class to A-class and can return to ranked battles. His rival Tachikawa was also happy about this. The leader of the Tamakoma branch believes there are good people in the Neighbors so let's all get along, and he's in a class of his own when it comes to both strength and character!
Everything went as Jin Yuichi had planned
Commander Kido allowed Yuma to join Border by giving up "Kazana". As Kazama said, if he was going to give up "Kazana", there was no need to fight Tachikawa and the others. Jin thought that the current "Kazana" was not worth as much as Yuma's joining. So he tried to increase the value of "Kazana" by defeating Tachikawa and the other elite A-class troops, and to make the negotiations go smoothly. In the end, everything went as Jin had planned.
Jin Yuichi takes measures in advance against the large-scale Neighbor invasion
Jin predicted that Osamu would be in trouble during the large-scale Neighbor invasion. Moreover, Miwa was the only person who could go and help him. Miwa hates Neighbors, so naturally he doesn't like Osamu who is friendly with Yuma. Jin asks Miwa to help Osamu. Of course, Miwa refuses, but Jin says that he will recommend Miwa as the owner of "Kazeha" as a condition. Jin alone cannot decide the owner, but the recommendation of Jin, who is the former owner and has the ability, will have a great influence. With "Kazeha", Miwa will be able to avenge his sister more easily. Miwa is conflicted, but Jin's side effect predicts that Miwa will help Osamu.
He also asked Reiji for a favor
Jin not only told Miwa, but also Reiji about what would happen in a large-scale invasion. Jin asks Reiji to buy as much time as possible. Reiji took a different course of action from Konan and Karasuma because he had heard about this in advance.
To prevent the "worst" future
During the large-scale Neighbor invasion, Jin saw many uncertain futures ranging from the "best" to the "worst." Chika being kidnapped was one step away from the "worst," and the "worst" was Osamu's death. To avoid this future, Jin left Amano in charge of the western district and took Yuma with him. Whether Osamu and Chika can enter Border HQ will be a major factor in determining whether they will be saved in the future, so Jin, Yuma, and Replica set out to stop the pursuers chasing Osamu and his friends with all their might.
The counterattack begins, Jin Yuichi arrives!!
Osamu and his friends can't get to Border HQ because they can't use the connecting passage. Hughes and Old Visa catch up with Osamu and his friends, who are having trouble. Osamu and his friends are cornered, but then Jin, Yuma, and Replica appear in a flashy fashion. They say heroes are often late to appear, but everyone was hoping he'd come a little earlier (lol). But it's kind of reassuring to have Jin with them. Jin and Yuma's appearance completely stopped Hughes and Old Man Visa in their tracks. Jin has given up his black trigger, but even with his normal trigger, his power is probably incomparable to other A-class heroes. Jin took on Hughes and Yuma took on Old Man Visa, and they succeeded in buying time for Osamu and the others to escape.
Who is Jin Yuichi, a talented elite and border S-class hero? Summary
What did you think?
Jin Yuichi is cheerful and kind to everyone, and can be said to be like the sun within Border. Although he is usually playful, he is always thinking about his juniors and is reliable when it comes to emergencies. With such excellent talent, no one can complain if he calls himself an elite (lol). Keep an eye on Jin's performance after giving up "Kazeha"! !
