The third season of the anime "World Trigger" will begin in October, and one of its charms is the elaborate setting. In particular, the Border, the organization to which the main characters Osamu Mikumo and Yuma Kuga belong, has been meticulously set up. In this article, I would like to explain what kind of organization Border is, how it was formed, and its senior executives and rank system!
First of all, what exactly is Border? How did Border start?
Border's official name is the Border Defense Agency, and it is a private organization established to deal with the Near Border people. Currently, the Border has over 500 members and deals with threats to the Neighbors. They have been active since before the Neighbors attacked Mikado City and people became aware of the threat of the Neighbors, and when the Neighbors first attacked four and a half years ago, they appeared like a comet and eliminated the threat. At that time, there were still only a few fighters.
Former Border members
Six years ago, Border had 19 members, but five years ago they assisted the allied nations that were at war. Ten died in the battle. Some of them became black triggers. The old Border's base was currently Tamakoma Second, and its members included the current commander-in-chief, Kido Masamune. Currently, eight members remain in Border: Kido Masamune, Hayashido Takumi, Hayashido Yuri, Oshida Masashi, Kizaki Reiji, Jin Yuichi, Konan Kirie, and Kiriyama Ryoji, with Kujou Masato having left. Ten members, including Mogami Souichi, were killed in battle five years ago while aiding in the war between the allied nations.
Commander of the Border Defense Agency Headquarters and Supreme Commander Kido Masamune
Kido Masamune, a founding member of the old Border, is at the top of the organization, with the authority to come up with the rules of the new organization, defense plans, and base construction, and the current command authority of Border. He sometimes makes decisions that can be described as cold-hearted, and is also the head of the largest faction of the organization that takes an antagonistic stance toward the Near World. However, in Border, since the authority to give orders is given to his direct superior, he does not have all the authority to give orders to the lowest-ranking members. In the old Border photo, he is smiling with people from different factions than he is now, and it is thought that the incident of losing half of the members at that time caused a big change in Kido's state of mind, but at this point it is still a mystery.
Masashi Oshida, Chief of the Border Defense Agency Headquarters
He is the chief who leads all of Border's fighters. In terms of the chain of command, he is under the commander-in-chief. When the Neighbors attack, he is in charge of directing defense missions and, in some cases, will participate in the battle himself. His abilities are known as the strongest normal trigger, and he is also the master of Tachikawa, the current A-rank number one. When Aftokrator's Enedra invaded the base, he intercepted them and worked with his subordinates to defeat the black trigger. As a faction, he is the leading faction that prioritizes the defense of Mikado City.
Border Defense Agency Tamakoma Branch Chief Hayashido Takumi
He is a veteran of the old Border since its founding, and is a representative of the faction that takes a friendly stance towards the Near Border people. He is one level below the commander-in-chief in the chain of command. At the time, he was active as a fighter, and it can be seen that he was a capable person, but now he supports his subordinates. He maintains a nonchalant stance, but is strong enough to get his point across. He is also an excellent engineer, and together with Kinuta, he has contributed to the construction of the ranked battle system.
Katsumi Karasawa, Director of Foreign Affairs and Sales at the Border Defense Agency
Former rugby player and director of foreign affairs and sales. He is mainly responsible for negotiations with the government and other countries, and for fundraising for Border, a private organization. While there are many former combatants on the board of Border, Karasawa is a non-combatant. As a rugby player, he believes in fair play, and gives Osamu, who was almost treated by the media as a windbreaker for Border, an opportunity to refute it.
Kinuta Motoyoshi, Head of Development at the Border Defense Agency Headquarters
He is the head of the development team that brings together the engineers who build robust systems in Border. Despite his appearance, he is the most intelligent person in Border and is the person who built the unique systems of Genkai, such as building rank battles, mass-producing triggers, emergency escape systems, and developing expedition boats. He has a strict stance and a strict attitude towards the Tamakoma branch, but Chika Amatori is an exception. This is not because Amatori has a huge amount of trion, but because he has a daughter of the same age.
Eizo Netsuke, Head of the Media Countermeasures Office at the Border Defense Agency
A spokesman who is mainly in charge of public relations and dealing with various media. In order to avoid criticism from the media at press conferences after battles, he sometimes takes cunning measures such as planting a bait among the reporters so that they will point the blame at individual Border members. Like Kinuta, he is somewhat negative about the Tamakoma branch, but when Hughes joined Border, he is a sharp-eyed person who had already dealt with everything before Osamu could take action, making him an indispensable member of Border.
Explanation of the Border Defense Agency's chain of command
In Border, the headquarters commander, Kido Masamune, is at the top, and below him are the headquarters chiefs, branch chiefs, and department chiefs, and there are also members directly under the headquarters commander. Members of the headquarters are under the headquarters commander, Shinoda Masashi, while non-combat personnel such as Kinuta, Netsuke, and Karasawa (engineers, etc.) are assigned as department staff, and branch members are under the branch chiefs such as Hayashido Takumi. It is thought that Kido has the strongest decision-making power, but it is thought that the department heads, headquarters chiefs, and branch chiefs each have the same degree of say and decision-making power.
Rank system of members
Based on their performance in rank battles, members are divided into A-class members (elite), B-class members (main force), and C-class members (trainees). C-class members are promoted if they accumulate 4000 points through joint training or rank battles. B-class members are given the right to challenge for promotion if they perform well in team battles. At the moment, there are more than 400 C-class members, about 100 B-class members, and about 30 A-class members.
【World Trigger 3rd】Summary of Border's upper echelons and rank system
This time, we have summarized the chain of command, upper echelon officers, ranks, etc. in Border! In the early days, Border was a small elite organization and not so large, but it has become this large in about 5 or 6 years. I'm curious about the past of the characters who belonged to the old Border, but I'm also curious about how the non-combatant officers joined Border. Perhaps there will be an opportunity to talk about these things in the future!
