This is a battle action series that began serialization in Weekly Shonen Jump in 2013, and was written by Daisuke Ashihara. It has been serialized in Jump Square since 2019. The first season of the anime (73 episodes in total) was broadcast from October 2014 to April 2016, and the second season is scheduled to be broadcast in 2020. Border is an organization that protects the Earth from Neighbors (near-worlders). The protagonist, Osamu Mikumo, who belongs to the organization, meets Yuma Kuga, a Neighbor who came from outside the gate. Mikumo fights the Neighbors who have attacked the school, but Kuga uses his "trigger" to help him when he is struggling. Mikumo of Border and Kuga of Neighbor, two people who should be enemies, end up joining forces to fight. In this article, I would like to introduce the plot from Volume 4 to Volume 6. Please be careful if you haven't seen it yet as it contains spoilers! !
Episodes 26-34 (Volume 4)
Volume 4 mainly depicts the battle between Jin and Arashiyama's squad versus Tachikawa's elite squad. We also see Yuma and Chika officially join Border. Jin is so cool, supporting his juniors behind the scenes!!
Episode 26 "Arashiyama Squad ②"
Osamu and the others are briefed on Border's triggers. A total of eight types of triggers, including offensive and defensive triggers, can be set on the holder, and they can be used according to the situation. Meanwhile, the elite troops fighting with Jin and the others split into two groups: Tachikawa's unit, which will launch a full-scale attack to defeat Jin, and Izumi's unit, which will hold back Arashiyama Squad.
Episode 27 "Tachikawa Kei"
Tachikawa and the others are worried that Jin is not using "Fuujian" and is passive in his attacks. Jin's aim is to make him lose his Trion and retreat. Tachikawa and the others see through this and try to force their way to Tamakoma where Yuma is. Jin uses "Fuujian" to stop them and quickly pales out Kikuchihara.
Episode 28 "Jin Yuichi ④"
"Wind Blade" is the ability of Jin's black trigger, which allows him to propagate slashes to objects and attack anywhere within his line of sight. The number of light strips coming out of the blade indicates the remaining bullets, and when they run out, he must reload, creating an opening. Tachikawa and his friends try to take advantage of this opening and defeat Jin. Tachikawa and his friends corner Jin with coordinated attacks, but Jin had predicted this development. The side effect and "Wind Blade" were a perfect match.
Episode 29 "Arashiyama Squad ③"
Jin's attack gives Arashiyama Squad momentum. Kitora and Yoneya are fighting inside a building. Kitora seems to be running away, but his arm gets caught in a wire and he stabs Yoneya in the chest, who has stopped moving. However, Yoneya takes Kitora with him and jumps out of the building, where the elite troops open fire. Tokieda comes to the rescue just in time and Kitora is saved, but Tokieda is wiped out, and Arashiyama Squad is reversed to 3 against 2.
Episode 30 "Arashiyama Squad ④"
Arashiyama and Kitora chase Miwa and the others, knowing that it was a trap to lure them out. Kitora's plan is to use Arashiyama as a decoy and launch a surprise attack. Miwa and the others had expected this, but they didn't expect Kitora to use Scorpion as a leg. Arashiyama's team knocks Touma out with a brilliant surprise attack. Immediately after, Miwa receives news that the operation is over.
Episode 31 "Jin Yuichi⑤"
The situation was resolved when Jin defeated Tachikawa and the others. Headquarters Chief Shinobu, who was against Yuma's stealing of the black trigger, was furious that if any more assassins were sent, he would be the one to deal with them. However, Commander Kido was planning to send more assassins. Just when it seemed that the two were going to clash head-on, Jin came to the headquarters to negotiate. Jin's request was to allow Yuma to join Border. In exchange, he offered to offer the "wind blade".
Episode 32 "Jin Yuichi⑥"
Jin had no interest in the struggle for leadership in Border, and wanted to give Yuma, who had led a hard life, a good time. He wanted Yuma to experience the fun times he had spent competing with his rivals. The juniors that Jin protected found their own fighting styles and reached the day they officially joined the Border team.
Episode 33 "Kuga Yuma⑤"
Yuma and Chika, who have officially joined Border, will first aim to move from C-class to B-class. Yuuma is enthusiastic about training after receiving advice from Kitora that he just needs to get full marks in training and keep winning ranked matches. In training, which is a competition to see who can beat a virtual Neighbor in the shortest time, he achieves a decent result of just under a minute. Kitora achieved an incredible result of 9 seconds, and Midorikawa achieved an incredible result of 4 seconds. Meanwhile, Yuma achieved a time of 0.6 seconds?! ! !
Episode 34 "Amatori Chika③"
Chika, who is receiving sniper training, was taught by Reiji to shoot and then run so that the sniping point is not revealed. However, this is something that you learn after you reach B class, and the C class kids make fun of her. However, when Chika actually sniped, the power was so great that a large hole was made in the building... The trainees were completely at a loss for words.
Episodes 35-43 (Volume 5)
In Volume 5, you can see the battles between Osamu vs. Kazama and Yuma vs. Midorikawa. The unknown reality of the Neighbors is also revealed. A large-scale invasion by the Neighbors... Which country will attack and how?
Episode 35 "Mikumo Osamu ④"
Suddenly, Kazama, who is ranked 3rd in the A-class, challenges Osamu to a mock battle. Osamu accepts the challenge to gain experience, knowing that it is not a fight he can win. Kazama has tamed Yuuma, a Neighbor, and is trying to test the strength of Osamu, a junior of Jin. The mock battle ends with an overwhelming difference in ability, but when Osamu hears that Jin has given up his black trigger, he challenges Kazama again.
Episode 36 "Mikumo Osamu⑤"
After hearing Jin's story, Osamu wants to hit Kazama at all costs, so he uses the shooter traits he learned from Karasuma to block Kazama's movements. It seemed like he would be able to limit his movements and finish him off with a big ball, but Osamu uses a shield charge to push Kazama to the wall in one go. From there, he fires a zero-distance shot without a moment's hesitation! Osamu has completely caught Kazama.
Episode 37 "Mikumo Osamu⑥"
Osamu seemed to have won against Kazama, but Osamu went down due to the transmission system being cut off. However, Kazama also went down due to excessive trion exposure, so the final battle ended in a draw. It can be said that it was quite an achievement for Osamu, who is a B-class with little combat experience, to draw with Kazama, an A-class captain. Kazama said that Osamu was not strong enough, but he was well aware of his own weaknesses and appreciated Osamu's style of fighting using his head. Yuma and Chika also passed the entrance exam with a bang, and the three members of the new Tamakoma team started a new beginning.
Episode 38 "Kuga Yuma⑥"
Yuma keeps getting perfect scores in training, but he can't quite reach the 4,000 points needed to get a raise. So Tokieda teaches him how to take on a ranked match. With his overwhelming strength, he grabs the points in one go. Meanwhile, at HQ, Jin, Kazama, the branch chiefs, and others have gathered to begin a meeting. The topic of discussion is the upcoming large-scale invasion of the Neighbors.
Episode 39 "Kuga Yuma ⑦"
Osamu had once drawn with Kazama, but the fact that it was a draw was emphasized and spread around. After hearing the rumor, Midorikawa challenges Osamu to a ranked match. Midorikawa was strong enough to defeat a virtual neighbor in 4 seconds, and Osamu was no match for him. Yuma, angry at Midorikawa for gathering a gallery and making Osamu a laughing stock, challenges him to a match with all his points on the line. He sets the condition that if he wins, he will call Osamu, the captain, "senpai."
Episode 40 "Kuga Yuma ⑧"
Yuma vs Midorikawa in a 10-game match against unranked opponents. Midorikawa quickly takes the lead with two games, showing off his A-class skills. However, Yuma, wanting to beat Midorikawa to a pulp, purposely lets Midorikawa take two games, and then goes on to win 10 games in a row. He shows off the overwhelming difference in experience.
Episode 41 "Replica"
Midorikawa, a passionate fan of Jin, was jealous that Jin invited him to join Tamakoma. However, after losing to Yuma, he calls Osamu his senior and shows his honest side. Seeing Yuma's difference in experience, Osamu decides to work hard himself. Called by Jin, Osamu and the others head to the headquarters where Commander Kido and the others are. At the headquarters, a meeting is being held to prepare for a large-scale Neighbor invasion, and Replica begins to talk about Neighbors.
Episode 42 "Replica 2"
Replica adds the orbital map of planetary nations that Yuma's father Yugo investigated to Border's layout. The nation approaching Earth is likely to be either the snowy nation "Kion" or the divine nation "Aftokrator," and it was important that the nation possessed a black trigger. Kion had six black triggers and Aftokrator had 13, but Replica says that because they are rare, they are generally used defensively. Based on the information from Yuma and Replica, Border HQ began preparations to fight the Neighbors.
Episode 43 "Jin Yuichi ⑦"
Jin predicts that Osamu will be in a pinch during the large-scale invasion and asks Miwa to help him. Miwa refuses, saying he wants to deal with it himself, but Jin's side effect predicts that Miwa will help him.
Episodes 44-52 (Volume 6)
In Volume 6, the story moves forward with the Neighbors' large-scale invasion. Scenes showing the growth of Osamu, Chika, and Kitora are also worth checking out!
Episode 44 "Large-Scale Invasion"
In order to deal with the Trion soldiers who have dispersed and are heading for the city, Border HQ splits their on-site forces into three. The plan is to leave the west and northwest wide open, but Jin and Amou are already on their way there. What is the purpose of the Trion soldiers who have dispersed their forces and are attacking?!
Episode 45 "Large-scale Invasion ②"
The Border members are shaken by a new type of Trion soldier they have never seen before. This new type is a type called "Rabbit", a Trion soldier designed to capture Trigger users. A-rank Kazama stands up to an unexpectedly strong enemy.
Episode 46 "Large-scale Invasion③"
Border is unable to stop the progress of the Trion soldiers due to the interference of the new type. They are asked to rotate their troops, but Chief Oshimeta prioritizes reunification, believing that their inferior fighting power will make them prey to the new type. Commander Kido supports this, but asks what will happen if the new type cannot be stopped. Chief Oshimeta says that in the worst case scenario, he will take action himself.
Episode 47 "Large-scale Invasion ④"
The Neighbors, watching the battle between the Trion soldiers and Border from above, looked relaxed. However, with Rabbit downed, it was time to make their next move. Arashiyama's team, who had joined Osamu and the others, downed the new type and were about to head to their next target, when suddenly, a bombing Ilgar approached the headquarters.
Episode 48 "Large-scale Invasion ⑤"
Border HQ is fighting three Ilgars. The HQ, which has reinforced its armor, says it can withstand one. Headquarters Chief Oshida gives orders to kill the remaining one with concentrated artillery fire. There are three, but Headquarters Chief Oshida says there's only one left... and there is Tachikawa, cutting the Ilgar in half with a single slash.
Episode 49 "Large-scale Invasion ⑥"
Kazama's team defeated the new type, but they found only a cube inside, and no sign of Suwa, so they decided to have the cube analyzed at headquarters. Meanwhile, Replica, who is accompanying Osamu and Kitora, is worried that the enemy is not attacking in earnest despite pouring in a huge amount of Trion, and that their true purpose may be hidden.
Episode 50 "Mikumo Osamu ⑦"
Osamu and Kitora face off against a new, shiny Pokémon. Then, a Mallmod appears. Kitora takes on the new Pokémon alone, leaving the Mallmod to Osamu. Osamu, who has been training to help everyone with his own strength, takes on the Mallmod alone.
Episode 51 "Kitora Ai ④"
Kitora puts up a good fight against the new type on his own, but the new type starts to attack indiscriminately against the residents other than Kitora. Kitora manages to defeat the new type at the cost of his own leg, but three new types appear to add insult to injury.
Episode 52 "Amatori Chika ④"
Kitora is suddenly attacked by a new type of monster and is eaten by it without being able to pail out in time. The C-class soldiers, who are the targets of the new type, panic and run away, and Chika is targeted by the new type. Izuho tries to protect Chika, but is captured and in trouble. Chika became a fighter at Border so that she could fight on her own, and she attacks the new type of monster of her own volition.
