The long-awaited second season of World Trigger will begin airing in January 2021. The first season aired from 2014 to 2016, but it included episodes entirely original to the anime. Before the second season begins, we'd like to introduce some of the characters featured in the original episodes!
About the Original Episode "Fugitive Arc"
Tamakoma Division 2's Osamu Mikumo, Yuma Kuga, and Chika Amatori, along with operator Shiori Usami, plan a training camp in Yotsuzuka City, far from Mikado City. Suddenly, during the training camp, a boy controlling Trion soldiers and a mysterious beautiful girl accompanying him appear. They are revealed to be Neighbors who have escaped from the chaotic planet nation of Ergates. Zeno takes Chika hostage and attempts to hide until his ship's repairs are complete. However, Gieve and Charon arrive from Ergates in pursuit of Zeno and his friends, escalating the situation into a major incident that involves the entire city of Yotsuzuka.
Xeno, the Genius Engineer of Elgates / Voiced by Daisuke Sakaguchi
An engineer who escaped from the chaotic planet nation of Elgates. He's a boy with genius skills when it comes to controlling Trion soldiers, but perhaps due to his talent, he has a very arrogant and haughty personality. He makes everyone call him "-sama" and is selfish, only trusting those he trusts, but will protect them with his own life. He's what you'd call a tsundere. In the story, he doesn't trust Osamu and the others until the very end, and only at the very end does he become affectionate.
Reasons for Becoming a Fugitive
Elgates is a nation focused on developing Trion soldiers, and Xeno is an exceptional engineer among them. Hearing rumors of a completely new Trion soldier being developed, Xeno sneaks into the research facility and encounters Lilith. Not happy that Lilith is a combat Trion soldier whose memories will eventually be wiped and deployed to the battlefield, Xeno escapes with Lilith, leaving him pursued.
The Kind-Hearted, Mysterious Beautiful Girl "Lilith" / Voiced by Mamiko Noto
A tall, beautiful girl who escaped from the chaotic planet nation of Ergates with Xeno. She has a very kind-hearted yet strong-willed personality, even scolding Xeno for his arrogant attitude and taking the brunt of the pain when Osamu and his friends are in trouble. Despite being from Ergates, she is naive and delights in experiencing sunsets, shopping at the mall, and fashion, something she apparently never experienced in her home country. In fact, Lilith harbors a very big secret.
Combat Humanoid Autonomous Trion Soldier
Lilith's true identity is a self-aware, humanoid, autonomous Trion Soldier developed by Dr. Lamia. Moreover, as a combat Trion Soldier, its combat capabilities far surpass those of conventional Trion Soldier, making it a strategic weapon. To do this, it requires a constant supply of Trion, and in times of emergency, it can even absorb Trion directly from Xeno. Originally destined to have her memories wiped and be deployed to the battlefield, Xeno's rescue allows her to experience many human-like experiences.
Gieve, an assassin from Elgates / Voiced by Takahiro Sakurai
An assassin who pursued Xeno and Lilith after they escaped from Elgates. A calm and collected blond young man, he travels with Charon, an autonomous Trion soldier. Like Xeno, he can control a wide variety of Trion soldiers, many of which can be extremely troublesome, as they can regenerate by continuously supplying them with Trion. Furthermore, he possesses a Black Trigger as his trump card, and the Trion soldiers generated by his Black Trigger possess extremely high combat capabilities.
The Sad Autonomous Trion Soldier
Gieve harbors a strong resentment toward Zeno, something Zeno has no idea about. His resentment toward Zeno is actually a false memory implanted by Dr. Lamia. Like Lilith, Gieve is a combat-ready autonomous humanoid trion soldier. He is deeply infatuated with Dr. Lamia, and feels almost romantically attached to her. However, Dr. Lamia herself brands him a failure and sees him as merely disposable.
Evil Mascot Trion Soldier "Charon" / Voiced by Sakiko Tamagawa
An autonomous Trion Soldier who accompanied Gieve in pursuit of the Xenos from Elgates. In contrast to the calm and collected Gieve, Charon has a hedonistic, cynical, and simply evil personality. He supports Gieve in battle and can control Black Triggers by assimilating with him. Their evil nature is unparalleled, even in the main story. They are not afraid to capture civilians as Trion sources, turning them into biobases, or even blowing them all up in large-scale destruction. They are also incredibly powerful Trion soldiers in many ways, capturing the entire population of Yotsuzuka City and turning them into Trion sources in one night.
The Being Who Manipulated Gieve from Behind the Scenes
This being was actually the one who manipulated and manipulated Gieve, who was actually a humanoid Trion soldier. When Gieve began to realize he was a Trion soldier, he erased his memory and reconditioned him. Finally, when he determined that retrieving Lilith was difficult, he manipulated Gieve into going berserk, activating a self-destruct sequence that would take Lilith, Osamu, and the people of Yotsuzuka City with him. When Gieve refused to self-destruct, he broke the protection and attempted to force him to do so, but was ultimately cut in half by Yuma. After being absorbed by Gieve, who had regained his senses, he shared Gieve's fate.
Dr. Lamia, the developer of Lilith and Gieve / Voiced by Sakiko Tamagawa
She is the most talented female scientist at Elgates, the developer of Lilith and Lamia. She seems to be a person full of human charm, and is fascinated by Gieve and seems to have built a certain degree of trust with Lilith. However, deep down, she only sees them as experimental tools and weapons. She is the kind of woman who fits the description of a psychopath or a mad scientist.
[World Trigger 2nd] Summary of Original Characters from Season 1
I've compiled a list of characters who appeared in the original anime episodes from Season 1. To be honest, the original episodes are quite full of inconsistencies in their plot. This is probably natural for those who have read the original manga, but the story itself is incredibly interesting!
