The second season of the anime series "World Trigger," which aired from 2014 to 2016, will begin airing in January 2021. This time, we've put together a quick recap of what was shown in the first season as a pre-season refresher!
World Trigger Anime Season 1 Episodes 1-6: The Meeting of Mikumo Osamu and Kuga Yuma
One day, a gate from another world opens in Mikado City, a city with a population of 280,000. The city is plunged into chaos by an attack by invaders later known as "Neighbors." However, the Neighbors were repelled by the Border, a group of people who are largely ineffective against Earth's weapons. They studied Neighbor technology and were tasked with combating invasions. While there have been several Neighbor invasions since then, the situation has stabilized thanks to the efforts of the Border. Four years after the first invasion, a boy arrives in Mikado City.
Osamu Mikumo and Yuma Kuga
Yuma Kuga, a boy who transferred to a junior high school in Mikado City, meets Osamu Mikumo, a Border member. Yuma reveals his identity as a Neighbor, and Osamu begins caring for Yuuma, who lacks common sense. Osamu becomes embroiled in a major turmoil, learning about Yuuma, the attacking Neighbors, a reunion with Yuichi Jin, a Border member who once saved him, and an encounter with his childhood friend, Chika Amatori.
World Trigger Anime Season 1 Episodes 7-16: The Battle for the Black Trigger
One day, Yuma is attacked by the A-rank Miwa Squad at a train station. Despite Osamu's persuasion, a battle ensues. However, Yuma detects the presence of the sniper and overwhelms him, despite him being one of Border's most powerful men. This is due to Yuma's side effect, which allows him to detect lies, and his Black Trigger. Later, it is revealed that Yuma is the son of Border's founder, and his life is no longer in danger. However, he continues to be targeted due to factional reasons within Border.
Yuichi Jin & Arashiyama Squad vs. the Expeditionary Force
Yuma, Osamu, and Chika join the Tamakoma Branch and choose to become Border members. Meanwhile, a combined force consisting of the returning Expeditionary Force and Miwa Squad is being sent to capture Yuuma's trigger. Kei Tachikawa and his team, among the strongest remaining members excluding S-class triggers, are tasked with the mission, but standing in their way are Jin and Arashiyama Squad. Thanks to Jin's side effect, his black trigger, Kazeha, and Arashiyama Squad's valiant efforts, the Expeditionary Force is repelled. While intermittent attacks would have continued, they ended when Jin surrendered Kazeha in exchange for Yuuma's admission to Border.
World Trigger Anime Season 1 Episodes 17-21: Joining Border
After many twists and turns, Yuma and Chika become Border members, and Osamu, who has been promoted to B-rank, quickly begin to show their talents under the guidance of their seniors at Tamakoma First. Yuma demonstrates abilities that drastically rewrite previous exam records, overwhelming A-rank Midorikawa in a one-on-one match. Chika uses her Trion power to break through the wall of the exam venue. Osamu is overwhelmed in a one-on-one match against Kazama, but ultimately manages to get revenge, demonstrating his ability to fight with wisdom and ingenuity. At the same time, a large-scale invasion by Neighbors was approaching.
World Trigger Anime Season 1, Episodes 22-37: Invasion of Aftokrator
The large-scale invasion, which had been predicted from the beginning, finally begins. A large number of Trion soldiers appear in the city, and the team members deal with them, but their objective is unclear. It is later revealed that their goal is to capture the team members and secure Amatori Chika, and an enemy executive using a black trigger is teleported in. As the Border members struggle against Aftokrator's elite forces, the crossroads of the future Jin predicted draw ever closer.
The Aftokrator Invasion Arc's Conclusion
Chika and Kitora are transformed into Trion Cubes, and an Enedra invades headquarters, resulting in casualties. Despite the dire situation, the Border members, along with Jin, Yuma, Miwa, who activates the Kazehada, and Osamu, who makes a self-sacrificing move to force the enemy forces to retreat, successfully force the Aftokrator's elite forces to retreat with minimal casualties. Many C-rank members are taken, Replica is left behind on the Aftokrator expedition vessel, and Osamu suffers serious injuries that could kill him. However, according to Jin's predictions, these outcomes were close to optimal, and Osamu is awarded a first-class combat merit award as a reward for his service.
World Trigger Anime Season 1 Episodes 38-48: B-Rank Battle
Following the Aftokrator invasion, Osamu and his team aim to achieve high rankings in the B-Rank class battles in order to become an expeditionary force. While they initially win thanks to Yuma and Chika's overwhelming abilities, in the next battle between the Arafune Squad and the Suwa Squad, Tamakoma Second successfully creates a pseudo-2-on-1 situation by deliberately choosing a battlefield that favors the threatening Arafune Squad, a sniper squadron.
Game 2: Nasu Squad vs. Suzunari First
The next match pits Nasu Squad, boasting an unbeatable ace, against Suzunari First. The battlefield is a rainstorm-filled urban area, forcing each team to change their strategy. Tamakoma Second collapses a bridge to prevent Nasu Squad from joining forces. It's a desperate move that Tamakoma Second doesn't want to take, but it works. Yuma sinks their ace, Murakami, and aims to deplete Nasu's Trion, giving Tamakoma Second the strategic victory.
World Trigger Anime Season 1 Episodes 49-63: Fugitive from Another World
Though Tamakoma Second barely managed to win the recent ranked match, Osamu realized he was lacking in ability. To find out what he could do, Tamakoma Second holds a training camp in the nearby city of Yotsuzuka. During this time, a Trion soldier suddenly appears before Tamakoma Second, and they encounter two Neighbors boys, Zeno and Lilith. The two have fled from the turbulent nation of Elgates to our side. Zeno takes Chika hostage and acts arrogantly, but the kind-hearted Lilith admonishes him while they wait for their broken spaceship to be repaired. Meanwhile, Gieve and Charon, pursuers from Elgates, attack.
World Trigger Anime Season 1 Episodes 64-73: B-Rank Battles Resume
After returning from Yotsuzuka City, Tamakoma Second challenges the next ranked battle. They face a four-way battle against Kageura, Azuma, and Ninomiya squads. However, early in the episode, Osamu was shot by a sniper and forced to make an emergency escape. Chika also chose to make an emergency escape, and despite Yuma's solo efforts, Tamakoma Second was defeated. The remaining major issue in this battle was how well the other members could function. Osamu worked hard to fill that gap.
