Wave, Listen to Me! is a work by Samura Hiroaki, the author of Blade of the Immortal, which was recently adapted for anime again, and is currently being serialized in Monthly Afternoon. It is a work based on radio, which has lost popularity with the rise of the internet, but still continues to be broadcast with a strong following. It is a work that is 180 degrees different from Blade of the Immortal, with no swords, bloodshed, brutal or fatal scenes, and no scenes of people being slashed. However, it does feature scenes of slashing with verbal knives and the strongest swordsman in the series, and the author's sense shines through. This work is hilarious, so we've compiled a ranking of its funniest scenes!
Listen to the Waves! - The Funniest Scene Ranking #1: "The Secret Story of Minare Tsuzumida's Birth"
This is the scene where the origin of Minare's name is revealed. Unable to come up with a topic for her radio show, Minare reluctantly accepts Asato's plan to have a parent-child argument over the phone with someone from her family and have the listeners decide who is right, and calls her parents. Minare confronts her father, arguing that she doesn't like her name and wants to change it, and then asks him about the origin of her name.
What's the origin of her name?
When Minare was born, her father went to a bookstore to look for a name-telling book, but couldn't find one. He happened upon a gossip magazine called "Treasured Photos of Beautiful Mature Celebrities" and decided to name her Minare from the characters for "beautiful mature." If that were true, it would be reasonable to estrange himself from his father, but in reality, it wasn't. Before Minare was born, her father had three mistresses, and "Minare" was created by combining the initials of each of their mistresses' names. A nightmarish reality awaited Minare.
All Men Are Shit
Hearing this, Minare throws the receiver down and heads to her parents' house, even though it's around 3 AM, to settle things with her father. However, she gives up because a radio recording is coming up. She makes a bombshell statement, mentioning that she was scammed out of 500,000 yen by her ex-boyfriend, saying she'll turn this show into a radio show full of radical feminism.
Listen to the Waves: #2 Funniest Scenes Ranking: "Mitsuo, I'm going to kill you." 』
The legend begins in the first episode of Nami ni Ki wo Kikure. After turning 25 and working at a curry restaurant somewhere in Sapporo, Hokkaido, Minare Tsumura, scammed out of 500,000 yen by her ex-boyfriend, she becomes a drunkard and starts harassing strange men. Then, one day, she wakes up at home, completely lost, and returns to work as if nothing had happened. Minare Tsumura has a very straightforward and kind personality.
Hearing her own voice over public airwaves...!
Minare, who is generally well-received by customers when she's quiet, was once again performing her duties as floor chief, wearing a cat mask. Then, for some reason, she heard her own voice coming from the radio playing in the bar. What's more, it was the exact same conversation she'd had with a stranger the other day while drinking. The conversation had been recorded and used. Minare, furious, storms out of her part-time job and heads to the radio station to storm in.
Minare is Tricked
Waiting for her at the radio station is the unfamiliar old man Minare had complained about the day before. His true identity is Kenji Asato, producer of the local radio station "MRS." Asato had apparently anticipated Minare's raid to some extent, and he coaxed her into speaking on public airwaves when she came to hijack the radio broadcast. The scene is a hilarious defense of her drunken remarks, a self-deprecating rant, and a bold death threat against her boyfriend, Mitsuo, who had cheated on her. This incident led Minare to become involved in the radio broadcasting industry.
Listen to the Waves! Funniest Scenes Ranking #3: "The Troublesome King, Minare Tsumura"
This scene really shows what kind of character Minare Tsumura is. One day, Minare was drunk and returning to her apartment. After taking a shower and getting ready to go to sleep, a stranger stood behind her. Minare reacts super-flexibly, grappling with the man and slamming him to the ground with something resembling a Frankensteiner. Using that momentum, she calls the police. The police arrive immediately, but...
Minare Prostrating Herself
In the next panel, Minare is prostrating herself. She always comes home drunk and mistakenly ends up in the room one floor below hers, and each time, the man reluctantly carries her back to his room. No matter how many times she left him outside, he would come back again and again. And when she locked the door, he would whine and bang on it (thinking it was her ex-boyfriend or something), causing a terrible nuisance.
Minare with No Fixed Address
Unable to stay in her apartment any longer, Minare decided to work in the radio industry to make a living, and ended up moving into the apartment of assistant director Mizuho Namba. However, she would continue to cause a great deal of trouble for the man, Oki Shinji, in one way or another.
Listen to the Waves! #4 Funniest Scenes: "Frankensteiner's Farewell"
This is a memorable scene from Minare. Minare's radio talk, which almost sounds like a TV accident, about how she "killed the ex-boyfriend who scammed me out of 500,000 yen," ends up saving her ex-boyfriend Mitsuo's life. Mitsuo then boldly appears before Minare. However, he's a different man than before, repaying her half of the money he scammed.
I won't be fooled
Mitsuo's eloquent seductions continue, almost leading Minare to wonder if he's truly changed and has truly repented. However, Minare, having learned her lesson, realizes that Mitsuo's words are merely a convenient excuse and a lie, and breaks off with him by pinning his head between her thighs and slamming him to the ground with a Frankensteiner. It's unclear whether Mitsuo will appear again in the future, but Minare is easy to fool, so she might fall for him if he does show up again.
Listen to the Waves! #5 Funniest Scenes: "You're the Culprit"
Oki, the resident of the apartment below Minare, who has been causing her so much trouble, is constantly plagued by mysterious phenomena. He claims that his dead lover is appearing in mysterious ways, and his room is overflowing with exorcism items. Minare and Mizuho enter Oki's room for a radio show story. And then, the mysterious phenomenon begins. The stench of rotting flesh and a blood-like liquid begin pouring throughout Oki's room.
The Ghost's True Identity: Minare Kare Omiha
Minare breaks into Oki's apartment attic and discovers the cause. The blood-like liquid is actually a leak from the room above. The rotten smell is caused by a bag of meat stuffed inside a plastic bag. After Minare reports the incident a second time, Oki is arrested. However, it turns out to be a case of mistaken identity, and the bag contains mutton for consumption. Apparently, the previous occupant had stored a large amount of meat in the basement for a while, but then completely forgot about it and left it there. Eventually, the meat under its own weight pushed through the ground and into the attic, where it rotted and caused this commotion. Speaking of which, the previous occupant...
The lawsuit is safe
Minare was the root of all evil. She once again tried to frame Oki for a crime he didn't commit. In the end, Minare apologized on the radio, and Oki dropped the lawsuit. This incident hardly made the news either. Minare is a woman who never runs out of material to talk about, no matter what she does.
