"To Your Eternity" has been broadcast on NHK Educational TV for two seasons since April 2021. Ahead of the broadcast of the second season, which will soon begin, let's look back on the story of the first season. The People of Takunaha - Residents of a Warm Land
Goo Goo
A boy from Takunaha who works at Sakejii's shop. He is about 12 years old when he first appears, but when he grows to about 16 years old, he becomes a young man with a muscular and sturdy body. He has an organ that stores sake implanted in his body by the hand of the sake grandfather, and he can breathe fire by blowing the sake out of his mouth and igniting it. His cooking skills are excellent, and he seems to be better than the cook in Lean's house.
Shin
He is Goo Goo's older brother. He accepted the invitation of his bad friends, took the money they had saved together, and left home, abandoning Goo Goo. After a life of misery, she was found emaciated and collapsed in an alleyway by Googoo and given an expensive ring, which helped her to recover and she now runs a business dealing in agricultural tools.
Lean
She is a rich young lady who lives in a mansion on a hill. She has a pretty appearance, but despite her privileged life, she is a somewhat naive girl who finds it annoying and worries. As she interacts with Googoo, she begins to think that her troubles are insignificant, and she gradually becomes attracted to him.
Meal
Lean's dog. He has a habit of escaping, and often escapes from the mansion and is searched for by Lean. He looks like a Pomeranian, but for some reason, he has sunken cheeks.
Sakegee
An old man who runs a liquor store on the outskirts of town, and Pioran's lover. He has the knowledge and skills to treat and save the life of Gougu, who is critically injured, but he also has a troublesome side to him, as he adds an organ to store alcohol to Gougu's body out of curiosity. As they live together, he comes to think of Gougu as his own grandson.
Goo Goo and Lean ~ A mutual understanding
When Goo Goo consults with the Sake Grandpa about treating the wounds on Lean's arm, he learns that an organ has been added to his body to store alcohol. Shocked, Goo Goo runs out of the store and returns to his work on the farm where he used to work, but everyone except his employer sees Goo Goo as a monster. Lean comes looking for Goo Goo, and as they exchange words, the tension between them is resolved and he decides to return to the store.
Master
He is the employer of the farm where Gougu and Shin work. He is a man of character who continues to treat Gougu the same as before, even though his face has become like a monster.
Chan
He is the son of Master. Unlike his father, who is a man of character, he openly dislikes GooGoo, who looks like a monster, and hurls derogatory words at him. After hearing Chan's words, GooGoo quit his job at the farm, where he had returned.
The Knocker's Attack ~ Googoo's Quick Thinking
At night, as Googoo returns to the store, Fushi is attacked by the Knocker. By chance, Googoo realizes that the alcohol in his stomach is flammable, so he returns to the store to refill his supply, then rushes to Fushi, who is fighting the Knocker in the forest. Googoo uses flames to repel the Knocker in the form of a brute, and Fushi, who has turned back into stone, is barely able to regain his original form.
Rean's birthday - a sudden change from happiness
Four years have passed, and Fushi, who did not transform during that time, has grown a beard on his chin, and Googoo has become a strong young man. Googoo and Rean are attracted to each other, and are invited to Rean's 16th birthday. After giving Rean a gift of a bellflower, Rean finds out that it was Googoo who saved him. Just before their feelings for each other could come to fruition, the mansion is attacked by the Knockers.
The Knockers' attack - the fruition of feelings, and...
The Knockers, having learned from being repelled by flames, cover their entire bodies with rocks, making Googoo's flame attacks ineffective, and Fushi loses the sight of Oniguma and March. Lean saves Googoo from peril, but the two are crushed under the collapsing mansion. While protecting Lean and supporting the rubble, Googoo confesses his feelings to Lean and dies. Fushi, who learned of Googoo's death, launches a fierce attack, but the Knockers escape.
To Jananda Island ~ In Search of Strength
Fushi, thinking that he would be attacked by the Knockers because of his presence, leaves Sakejii's shop, but Piolan follows him. Fushi, thinking that he cannot protect Piolan from the Knockers' attack as he is now, decides to become stronger, but due to Tonari's scheme, he is taken to the prison island of Jananda Island instead of his original destination. It is a lawless land where prisoners live, and a place where killing tournaments are held.
Tonari
A 14-year-old girl who lives on Jananda Island, she is the one who sent Fushi and Pioran to Jananda Island. She is characterized by her nonchalant attitude and arrogant behavior, and her true feelings and thoughts are hard to read, so Fushi thinks she cannot be trusted. She came to Jananda Island with her father, who became a criminal, but after his death, she has struggled to survive with her friends. She carries a blank book sent to her by her father, in which she writes down daily events.
Uuroi
A boy who is a friend of Tonari. He is like an older brother to his friends and has a strong body. He is an expert archer and his favorite food is chicken.
Captain Skyfish
The captain of the Skyfish, a ship that escorts criminals to Jananda Island. He has a large build and a bald head, and for some reason he always wears a mawashi around his waist. He seems to be recognized as a person of some rank on the island.
Squad Leader
He is in charge of the procurement department that brings in prisoners from the outside world aboard the Skyfish, and is Tonari's superior. He is a sensible person with a slightly anxious personality.
Mia
A girl who is a friend of Tonari. She always carries a chair with her, and when she goes into battle, she uses it as a weapon. Her hobby is finding wavy hair, and her dream for the future is to become a model for paintings.
Sanderu
An 11-year-old boy with brown skin, he is one of Tonali's friends. He is known for his polite way of speaking, and his dream for the future is to become a doctor.
Uupa
A girl who is a friend of Tonari. Born on Jananda Island, she always hides one of her eyes with a cloth wrapped around her head and uses a blowgun as a weapon. She was sold by her parents for one silver coin in the past.
Legard
This is a large three-toed owl kept by Tonari. Its third claw is poisonous.
Mole
This is a creature that Fushi accidentally killed on Jananda Island, and accidentally acquired its appearance. It can use its small body to get into gaps and dig through the ground to move forward.
Participating in the tournament ~ for the purpose
Fushi reluctantly accepted Tonari's words and participated in the tournament. Being immortal, Fushi advanced smoothly. During the second round, Fushi transformed into Parona and learned of her death. He still couldn't fully believe Tonari, but his resentment disappeared when he repelled the Knockers' attack with the help of Tonari and the islanders.
Berserker
He is Fushi's opponent in the second round of the tournament. He claims to be a veteran holy warrior, and according to Tonari, he has killed 50 people in the outside world. When he sees Fushi transformed into Parona, he blushes and attacks him, but is knocked out with a counter kick.
Nando
A young man who Fushi fought in the third round of the tournament. He is a kind older brother who participated in the tournament to take his younger brother off the island. A practitioner of Katsuyama Kempo, he was immune to the attacks that Fushi unleashed in the form of Parona, but was injured by an arrow shot by a spectator.
Elan G. Dalton
Tonari's father. He was sent to Jananda Island as the murderer of his wife, but the truth of the matter is unknown. He was a kind father to Tonari. He participated in a tournament to take Tonari off the island and won, but was later poisoned to death in revenge.
Reunion with the arch enemy ~ Off the island
Fushi's opponent, who made it to the final match, was Hayase of Yanome, with whom he has a long history. Fushi was furious when he was told that Hayase had killed Parona, but he was defeated by Hayase, who was skilled in fighting. Hayase, who won the match, handed over the rights of island chief to Tonari and tried to make Fushi his own, but in exchange for Fushi remaining with Hayase, Tonari and his friends gained the right to leave the island. When the ship left the island, Tonari returned alone to rescue Fushi.
The new Knocker threat - the death of his companions
Just before Fushi and Tonari reunite and leave the island, the Knockers attack again. This time, the Knockers are troublesome opponents that parasitize corpses like zombies and attack in groups. Fushi joins forces with his companions who have returned from the ship to fight off the Knockers, but in the process, Upa, Mia, and Uroi are sacrificed. Tonari and Sandel, who survived, decided to remain on the island, and Fushi left the island with Hayase, whom he had captured during the battle.
Reunion - What is Lost
Pioran had been waiting for Fushi, who had escaped from Jananda Island. Fushi was hesitant to be with Pioran because they would be in danger if they were attacked by the Knockers, but he eventually chose to live with Pioran. Pioran, who had been attacked by old age, began to show symptoms of dementia, and lived out his natural life in a peaceful life with Fushi. Just before his death, Pioran wished for the observer to reincarnate him, and the observer responded.
