"The Idaten Deities of the Peaceful Generation," which will be adapted into an anime series starting in July, is a remake of a webcomic originally published by the author of the controversial "Interspecies Reviewers," with illustrations by the creator of "Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid." The series has garnered attention for its original setting and storyline, which no one could have dreamed up, and the July anime is garnering a lot of attention. Today, we'll be introducing the storyline of "The Idaten Deities of the Peaceful Generation," complete with spoilers!
Spoiler Summary Part 1: Prologue
800 years ago, humanity was on the verge of extinction by a species known as the demon race. Modern weapons are no match for the demons, so humanity had no way to fight them and could only pray. However, these prayers awakened the god Idaten, and after a fierce battle with the demons, the Idaten succeeded in sealing them away. Now, in the peaceful era after the war with the demons has ended, the Idaten enjoy their leisure time and live as they please. However, the Idaten of the peaceful generation discover that the demons have been resurrected without their knowledge.
Spoiler Summary Part 2: 800 Years of Peace
In a time without war, there were three Idaten: Hayato, Isly, and Paula. All three were Idaten who emerged after the war, and each lived their lives doing what they loved. Hayato spent all his time training with his master, Lin, Isly pursued all kinds of knowledge, and Paula spent her time talking to birds. One day, the three learned of a group of humans gathering in the northern glacier region. Out of curiosity, they went to see what was happening, and there they witnessed a demon who had nearly destroyed the world frozen in ice.
Spoiler Summary Part 3: The First Battle
The massive demon was one of the demons that nearly destroyed the world. He was frozen, but still alive in a state of suspended animation. A scientist from the Zoburu Empire, calling himself Oubami, and his soldiers managed to break the ice and revive the demon. Oubami knew about the existence of demons and Idaten, but this was unknown to humans. Isli suspects Oubami is a surviving member of the demons who had been hiding for 800 years, but in the meantime, the revived demon begins to rampage. Paula and Ysly are powerless against the overwhelming force, and Ysly's body is pierced.
Spoiler Summary #4: Instant Death
For Hayato, who has been striving for strength for 80 years, this was no match for him. He defeats the demon by punching a hole in its body. Since Idaten cannot be killed by a hole in its body, Ysly is unharmed. Dr. Ohbami attempts to escape in a fighter jet capable of reaching speeds of Mach 2, but Hayato is unable to evade Idaten at Mach 2 and shoots him down. However, Dr. Ohbami's true identity is a remote-controlled robot. The wolves self-destructed, destroying the evidence. Meanwhile, Ysly contacted someone and secretly collected the demon's corpse.
Spoiler Summary #5: Drawer
After witnessing the demons, Ysly and Paula decided they needed to become stronger, so they headed to Hayato's master, Lin, who was also Ysly's former master. However, Lin had not forgiven Ysly for running away and was on the verge of killing her. However, when Ysly apologized by kneeling down, the simple-minded Lin forgave her and agreed to train her in combat. When Paula meets Rin for the first time, she explains that she was brought out by the Idaten, a savage spirit named Prontea. While Idaten generally "spontaneously" emerge, fellow Idaten can sense their presence. While they naturally emerge on their own, an Idaten can instantly bring them out by intervening.
Spoiler Summary #6: Reasonable Training
Rin's training was simple and straightforward, designed for muscle-brained warriors: keep beating her opponents until they calmed down. As the extreme training continues, with blood and organs flying everywhere, Paula wonders if this is really enough to make her stronger, but Ysly says it's a reasonable method of training. Idaten are completely different from humans to begin with; they can survive without eating and don't die even if their hearts are crushed. This is because Idaten are made up of the thoughts of people and animals. As they are beings that change due to thoughts, the quickest way to do this is to keep getting killed until they calm down. However, gaining strength was not something Ysly would do. He was clearly up to something.
Spoiler Summary #7: General Pisara
After finishing his training with Rin, Hayato notices something. A small mecha is attached to Rin's body. It's a transmitter, but Rin doesn't seem to care about such things, so she crushes it, and Hayato, who is also muscle-brained, doesn't seem to mind. Meanwhile, on the front lines of the Zobur army, General Pisara, a blonde, busty soldier, is inciting his soldiers to plunder and devastate. General Pisara's combat abilities are so high that he can survive a direct hit from a missile and lift a tank with one hand. After learning that the Zobur Army has invaded and occupied the Kend Autonomous Region, Isli tells Paula about the birth of Idaten. She explains that Idaten do not emerge simply through thought alone. Another requirement is a desire for salvation.
Spoiler Summary #8: Idaten of the Peaceful Era
The Idaten first emerged as a result of the prayers of humans who were nearly wiped out by the demons. No Idaten emerged for 600 years after the demons were wiped out. However, the recent string of Idaten emergences is believed to be due to the wars waged by humans. Hayato, Isly, and Paula were born as a result of victims of war seeking help. However, they do not help humans. This is because humans will not perish as long as they continue fighting among themselves. While the demons would have been wiped out if left alone, humans will not perish if they fight among themselves. This is why they arise pointlessly, and therefore do nothing. That is what the Idaten of the Peaceful Generation are like.
