The Hero Died! is a manga serialized on Shogakukan's webcomic sites, Ura Sunday and Manga One, and is scheduled for an anime adaptation starting in April 2023! It's a battle fantasy about a powerless villager who accidentally kills a hero who is about to save the world, and is forced to save the world himself! Here's a summary of the terms that appear in The Hero Died!
Glossary Part 1: Holy Sword
This is the special equipment used by the hero Shion Breidan to seal the Gates of Hell. Its shape and strength can be changed by magical power. However, its performance is greatly reduced if the user's magical power is low. While a person must be chosen by the Holy Sword to become its wielder, even if the user's magical power temporarily increases, they may mistakenly choose it as their owner. In fact, the spirit of the Hero Shion has not disappeared since his death and exists within the Holy Sword.
Glossary Part 2: Hero
Shion Breidan, the man who sealed the Gates of Hell three years ago and saved the world. He was a brave, well-behaved and overwhelmingly strong hero, but he had a weakness: he was defenseless in front of his favorite food, meat. He fell into a trap set by Touka and died. He left a will requesting that the necromancer Henri use his body after death. Following his will, Touka is forced to use Henri's necromancery to save the world.
Glossary Part 3: Gate of Hell
A large gate located on the northern continent. Beyond it leads to Hell, where a large number of demons live. It was supposed to have been sealed away by the hero Shion Breidan three years ago, but for some reason the seal was broken, causing demons to invade the surface world once again.
Glossary Part 4: Demons
Humanoid monsters that come from the gates of Hell. Demons are divided into lower-level, mid-level, and higher-level demons. These monsters are beyond the power of ordinary humans, and are feared for their love of human flesh. There are two higher-level beings: the Demon King and the Four Great Demon Lords, but they were defeated by Shion three years ago.
Glossary #5: Necromancer
Necromancers. They can use the forbidden art of controlling corpses, including the magical powers to control animal, demon, and human corpses. There are two types of magic: remote necromancy, which allows for the remote control of corpses, and possession magic, which allows for the possession of a spirit within a corpse. The necromancer Henri uses the latter to possess Touka's spirit within Shion's body. Originally from Hell, they possess the ability to control the dead, leading to a different sense of ethics than humans on Earth. Furthermore, they are unable to adapt to the Earthly environment, resulting in symptoms such as constant sweating and runny noses.
Glossary 6: Coffin of the Living
An ancient magical tool. This item can seal the body of a demon or human inside a small coffin. If the spirit is possessed elsewhere while the body is sealed, destroying the coffin will result in permanent death. By using this item, the necromancer Henri effectively holds Touka's life hostage.
Glossary Part 7: Magic Crystal
The heart of a demon, this item is used to cast magic. Its glow intensity changes depending on the user's magical power, making it an indicator of the user's magical power. By declaring the spell engraved in your will as "Activation Spell Ain" (Ein), and then chanting it, you can use the same magic as that demon. Furthermore, continued use will allow you to use more advanced magic.
Glossary #8: Magic Level
This is an indicator of an individual's magical power. Level 1 is the same as a toddler, level 2 is a child, level 3 is an adult, level 4 is the average adventurer, level 5 is a veteran adventurer, level 6 is the average magician, level 7 is a mid-level demon, level 8 is a high-ranking magician, level 9 is an archmage, and level 10 is the limit of a heroic human. Levels above this are those of a high-ranking demon or necromancer.
Glossary #9: Soma's Drops
A potion that temporarily increases magical power. Drinking it increases magical power by three levels, making it a trump card. However, since the raw material is a precious fruit harvested from the World Tree, it is very expensive, costing 100 million kruks. However, consuming multiple potions at the same time can put a great strain on the body and mind, potentially leaving permanent damage.
Glossary 10: Magical Leakage Syndrome
A mental illness that prevents the body from storing magical power. Marguerite Farom of the Farom Kingdom suffers from this illness, and if she does not ingest a large amount of food in a short period of time to replenish her magical power, she will die. Because magical power is released when bodily fluids are excreted, the excreted fluids contain a high concentration of magical power.
Glossary 11: Magical Car
This magically powered vehicle was bestowed upon the King of the Kingdom of Farom. It is powered by a magic crystal attached to the driver's seat, and its interior is spacious and even includes storage space. However, Touka and Yuna, who have little magical power, appear unable to drive it. In the rural town of Moiran, it is used by the mayor to launch a surprise attack on the necromancer Diego.
Glossary Part 12: Artificial Holy Swords
Four new holy swords were created through the combined efforts of the world's leading magicians, magical engineers, and blacksmiths. Unlike the original holy swords, they cannot seal the gates of Hell, but they do have the ability to kill the Demon King and the Four Great Demon Lords, who are superior demonic beings. The bodies of the Four Great Demon Lords are currently in the possession of necromancers from Hell.
Glossary 13: Monsters
A general term for monsters that once existed on Earth. The difference between monsters and demons is that they came from Hell. Most monsters on Earth have become extinct as a result of being targeted by heroes, adventurers, and demons. The monsters that inhabit the Isle of Sages were created by Nicola through experiments.
Glossary #14: Witch
Very rarely, these people possess magical power levels that exceed the human limit. This is especially common among women, and they are called witches. If left untreated, their bodies will be unable to withstand the magical power, leading to death. However, this can be prevented by using equipment that suppresses magical power. Feared by the people as heretics, Yuna's original magical power level, even with its suppression, was 50.
