The second season of the robot anime "SYNDUALITY Noir," which began airing in July 2023, is scheduled to begin airing in January 2024. The first season ended with many mysteries remaining, leaving us excited to see how the story will unfold. In this article, we'll be looking back at episodes 7 through 12 of the first season!
Episode 7: Looking Back at My Dear...
With Noir and Mouton out for maintenance, Ellie, who is planning to take care of Kanata, visits him to find his room neatly organized and a beautiful woman in an apron behaving like a newlywed. In fact, Ciel, who was rescued by Kanata, is staying with him for a while. Ciel is puzzled by Kanata's behavior toward Magus, treating him like a human, but it turns out that Kanata was raised by his father and Magus, who acted as his mother.
Ep.7 Part 2
Ciel approached Kanata with the intention of capturing Noir and eliminating Kanata, who was heading for Histoire, if necessary. Ciel appears to have belonged to the organization that attacked Kanata and his friends at the ruins. However, Ciel has mixed feelings toward Kanata, and secretly does not want to resort to force. To lighten the mood, Kanata takes Ciel to a place where he can sing his heart out. There, the two encounter Enders, and as impromptu partners, they fight back using the Coffin.
Episode 7 Review
After being saved by Kanata, Ciel has taken refuge with him. Moreover, she's become like a capable new wife. With the arrival of a new heroine, Ellie once again shows a look of despair. Ange's reaction of bluntly berating Ellie with sound reasoning has become a familiar one. However, it seems Ciel has a hidden agenda, and he appears to be part of the organization that attacked Kanata at the ruins.
Review Part 2
Ciel's role as a spy is to monitor Kanata and Noir, but due to her past, she has complicated feelings toward Kanata, who treats Magus like a human. She even temporarily becomes Kanata's partner to defeat the Enders, which gives the impression that she'll become something of a tragic heroine... Will she ever officially become Kanata's partner? Since Ciel is also a Zero-type, this seems likely.
Episode 8: A Look Back at Pure Dream
Ellie is excited when Kanata invites her on a date to the leisure facility "Satellite Aqua." However, on the carrier that leads there, not only Ellie but also Ange, Noir, Claudia, Flam, and even Maria are present. Tokio, who has been spending money for some reason recently, gives Kanata a ticket as a gift. The others, who tease Ellie, who can't be honest, start playing in the pool. Kanata ends up learning how to swim from Ellie...
Ep.8 Part 2
In fact, Ciel and Tokio were also at the venue. Tokio was making a living by producing the popular diva Ciel. Ciel suggested that he teach Kanata how to swim, but Ellie was so shocked by this that she ran away. Kanata rushed after him, but Ellie slipped and fell into the pool. In an attempt to save Ellie from drowning, Kanata jumped into the pool, even though he couldn't swim.
Episode 8 Impressions
This swimsuit episode felt almost tacked on. In fact, since the series has a large female cast, especially Noir and Ellie, this episode featured almost all of the main characters. This episode saw Ellie play the heroine in a proper role, and I felt like it helped dispel any hint of her losing heroine image. However, as is the fate of robot anime, setting up a romantic relationship with a big brother is dangerous...! In that sense, Tokio, Ellie, and Ciel are all in danger. It's exciting, if you like. I hope this harmless, cheerful episode doesn't turn out to be a deeply depressing one when I rewatch it later.
Episode 9: A Look Back at the Legendary Hero
Kanata heads to Traders' Nest, a town selling everything from mugs to coffins. Along the way, he encounters a Drifter named Alba. Alba is a Drifter who is researching Magus in detail. Kanata asks Alba about Noir's memories, but Alba ignores him and leaves. However, he reunites with Alba's Magus, Ada, at another market, and Ada guides Kanata to Alba's Drifter.
Ep.9 Part 2
While Noir's memories were being analyzed using a device created by Alba, a parasitic Enders appeared. Nest's Drifters fought back, but the powerful Enders were no match for them. However, Alba, piloting her beloved Bowie Rabbit, quickly reduced their numbers, and finally singlehandedly annihilated them with Ada's Magus skill. Analysis of Noir revealed that Noir's inability to do anything other than fight was a design flaw. It also suggested that Noir possessed a black box.
Episode 9 Review
Alba, a Drifter with a somewhat unusual aura, and her Magus Ada appear. However, these characters appear to be from the game, set 20 years before "SYNDUALITY Noir." In addition to the anime, a game version of this work is also planned for release, apparently titled "SYNDUALITY Echo of Ada." It appears to be a PvPvE game. As an important character in the prequel, he is a legendary figure, but it's unclear whether he will be treated as a guest character in the anime or a key player in the story.
Episode 10: A Look Back at Drifters' Pride
Nests around Rock Town were destroyed by some kind of disaster, including the Boneyard nest, which Kanata has close ties to. Kanata volunteers to investigate the Boneyard, but Tokio tells him to wait. Kanata resists Tokio, and Mom, unable to bear seeing him, orders him to investigate together. Despite some misunderstandings, Kanata and Tokio head out to investigate the collapsed Boneyard.
Episode 10 Part 2
Tokio cared for and looked after Kanata, who was alone at the time, but now that Kanata has grown up and become an adult, loved by many people, he feels lonely. Kanata rebelled against Tokio because he wanted to be recognized as an equal partner. While investigating the Boneyard, Tokio encounters a parasitic Enders, and Kanata, who went ahead, is also surrounded by Enders. Tokio rushes to the scene, but while protecting Kanata, he is attacked by the Enders and is pierced all the way to the cockpit.
Episode 10 Review
The large-scale disaster Enders, "Silver Storm," appeared as the climax of the first season. Was it something like a raid boss? Kanata had gained enough experience to be recognized by Aventure. However, he rebels against Tokio, who acts like an overprotective older brother. This is dangerous! Big-brother characters in robot anime, past and present, are always on the brink of death, and if he does this, the death flag will be triggered! And sure enough... Farewell, Tokio. Just as I was thinking that, he narrowly escapes death. There aren't many deaths in this series.
Episode 11: A Look Back at Storm of A.I.
Claudia and Flam arrive just in time to rescue Tokio, but he is seriously injured and needs medical treatment. Kanata, carrying on Tokio and the Boneyard residents' wishes, gathers the remaining parts from the Nest to repair and refurbish the Daisy Ogre. Back in Rock Town, Michael and the Drifters are busy preparing to face the disaster-level Enders, Silver Storm. While Kanata repairs the Daisy Ogre at the Boneyard ruins, Ciel, who has received orders from Ideal's superior, appears before him.
Episode 11 Part 2
In the end, Ciel refrains from using force due to Black Mask's last-minute instructions. The Drifters of Rock Town fight bravely against Silverstorm, but their numbers are beginning to show signs of fatigue. Meanwhile, Kanata, equipped with new weapons, rushes to Ellie, who is fighting on the front lines. He pilots his newly upgraded Daisy Ogre Alter to the Enders. Claudia and Flam use their Magus skills to exorcise the dew, and Kanata reunites with Michael and the others to begin their mission to destroy Silverstorm's core. Meanwhile, Tokio, who had been undergoing treatment, awakens.
Review of Episode 11
While working in the shadows as a female spy, Ciel harbors complicated feelings toward Kanata. While Kanata and Ciel's relationship didn't break down in the first season, it still feels like there are still lingering conflicts. What will become of her? Kanata's Daisy Ogre has been modified into the Daisy Ogre Alter. The protagonist's robot in this series is capable of changing its armament to suit the situation. I think this episode makes good use of Kanata's unique talent as a mechanic. While he's still inexperienced as a pilot, it's fascinating to watch him grow!
Episode 12: A Look Back at Mirage of the Ideal
With the help of the revived Tokio and Michael, Kanata and his friends destroy two of Silverstorm's cores, but a third core appears at the last moment. As the attacks intensify and the situation becomes dire, Noir awakens. Her appearance and personality change, but she defeats Silverstorm with her powerful Magus skills. She calls herself Mystel and describes Noir as her safe mode. After defeating Silver Storm, Mystel declares that they will never meet again and falls asleep again.
Episode 12 Part 2
After overcoming the Silver Storm crisis, people began to return to Rock Town. However, Mystel's physical form remained the same, never reverting to Noir. Mystel's foul mouth and attitude made him a Magus, completely unlike the pure and innocent Noir. Even when Mystel tried to return to Safe Mode, Noir remained asleep. Meanwhile, Ideal, the organization to which Noel, Black Mask, and Schnee belong, also made their next move. Tokio happens to spot Black Mask in Rock Town, calling him Macht Ewigkeit and hinting at a special connection.
Review of Episode 12
The first season has ended. Noir awakens, and in the final episode, a new personality, Myster, appears. Myster quickly defeats Silver Storm with her Magus Skill and falls asleep again...or so I thought. "You're staying?" The title "SYNDUALITY" is thought to be a combination of the words "Singularity" (technological singularity) and "Duality," but in the anime, "Duality" may refer to Noir and Mystery.
Review Part 2
The first season raised many mysteries and hints, but many of them carried over to the second season. Starting with Mystery's appearance in the final episode, it's also hinted that the mysterious organization Ideal and its executives, Black Mask and Schnee, have some kind of connection to Tokio. Overall, the ending left me wanting to know what happens next! Overall, it was entertaining!
