"SYNDUALITY Noir" is an anime series from Bandai Namco's new media mix project, the "SYNDUALITY" series. Set in a civilized society that was once on the verge of collapse, people live in a harsh environment, making full use of mobile weapons called Cradle Coffins and alongside autonomous humanoids called Magus. It is a sci-fi robot anime set in this world, and the character designs are excellent, with a cast of unique and fascinating characters. Here, we've created a popularity ranking of these characters!
Character Ranking - 1st Place: Noir
Kanata discovers this Magus in an abandoned museum. He has lost all of his memories and lacks the normal functions of a Magus. He often trips over nothing and has trouble putting on his clothes. Because of his memory loss, he has a pure, innocent, and gullible personality. A Zero-type Magus created in Amasia, he displays unparalleled strength in combat at the Cradle Coffin. He is the protagonist's partner, a clumsy and ignorant young heroine. In the final episode, we learn that Kanata has a different personality called Myster, and that Noir is his safe mode.
Character Ranking #2: Ellie
Ellie is a childhood friend of Kanata who has feelings for him. She is also a Drifter who belongs to the Drifter organization Aventure. Although she has had feelings for Kanata for many years, her insincere personality prevents her from taking action. When attractive women like Noir and Ciel become involved with Kanata, she is inevitably shocked. She's more of a comedic relief character, often crying after being beaten by her partner, the Magus Ange, with sound reason, making her the definitive heroine of defeat. However, she's a true heroine in the end.
Character Ranking #3: Ciel
A female Zero-type Magus who met Noir during Lange's career and worked as a diva at the Baccarat Nest lounge. A highly popular diva throughout the region, she temporarily took refuge with Kanata and Noir after being rescued by them. While she has special feelings for Kanata, who treats Magus like a human, she is actually a Magus belonging to the mysterious Ideal organization, which is pursuing Zero-type Magus. She is a spy who monitors Kanata and Noir. She receives orders from the organization to eliminate Kanata and capture Noir. While she is worthy of being called the third heroine, she struggles between her own feelings and the organization's orders.
Character Ranking - 4th Place: Kanata
The protagonist of this work. A boy who works as an apprentice Drifter under his older brother Tokio in Rock Town. He is an extremely talented mechanic and owns a Cradle Coffin that he built himself by piecing together parts, but he lacks talent for piloting and feels inferior. After finding Noir at the museum, he pilots the Cradle Coffin (later named Daisy Ogre) together with Noir, and officially becomes a Drifter. At first, he relies on Noir's performance, but to compensate for his immature skills, he begins to fight using the terrain, a variety of weapons, and his own knowledge, and he grows as a Drifter.
Character Ranking - 5th Place: Tokio
A Drifter in Rock Town, Tokio is like a big brother to Kanata. He approached Kanata, who was isolated in Rock Town and unable to become a Drifter, and hired him as an apprentice. He's a skilled Drifter, undisputedly the best in Rock Town, and is recognized by everyone as a skilled Cradle Coffin pilot. However, in his private life, he is extremely sloppy, careless, and reckless, never keeping money overnight. The final episode hints at a connection between her and Mahato, a senior member of the mysterious organization Ideal. Her beloved robot is called the John Gasmaker.
Character Ranking #6: Claudia
A skilled female Drifter who travels alongside her partner, the Zero-type Magus, Flam. She fights alongside Kanata and Tokio in the crystal mining in the valley, but ends up stealing all the products on her own, and at Ideal's request, she leads Kanata and Noir to a deserted ruin, making her a character like Fujiko Mine who has had a rough time. Despite everything, she likes Kanata and the others, and continues to hang out with them afterwards, and in the final battle, she uses her Magus skill to set the stage for the defeat of Silver Storm. She is said to be greedy for money because it costs money to maintain Flam, the Zero-type Magus.
Character Ranking #7: Maria
Ellie's older sister and a skilled mechanic. She is like a mentor to Kanata when it comes to maintaining the Cradle Coffin, and like a good older sister to him. In addition to maintaining the Cradle Coffin, she also takes on the maintenance of the Magus. She has a great admiration for the skies and devotes herself to daily research, trying to revive lost rocket technology. She has set up a laboratory a short distance from the city to conduct rocket experiments. In fact, he's a heavy drinker, capable of downing every last drop of alcohol in a bar, and apparently a drunkard himself.
Character Ranking #8: Black Mask
A mysterious man whom Kanata encounters in Desire Nest. He wears a mask typical of robot anime, and his unique speech and behavior often seem misunderstood. He shares a strong bond of trust with his partner, Schnee, and is a skilled fighter, capable of instantly killing medium-sized Enders with his white-colored Cradle Coffin and Gilbow. His partner, Schnee, is a Zero-type Magus, and can use ice-element Magus skills. He's actually a member of the mysterious organization, Ideal, which targets Zero-type Magus, and it's implied he has some connection to Tokio. He doesn't reveal his name in front of Kanata, so he calls him Black Mask, but Tokio calls him Mahato.
Character Ranking - 9th Place: Alba Kuze
A gruff young man Kanata meets at the Trader's Nest. In the world of this game, the rain that falls periodically seems to contain some highly toxic substance, and he himself is the only person with an antibody against it. People currently living on the surface have received a vaccine based on his antibody, and are apparently fine even if they are exposed to the rain for a short period of time. He has a brusque personality and his motives are shrouded in mystery, but he is a legendary Drifter of Cradle Coffin. His beloved robot is called Bowie Rabbit. He also appears in the game version, which is set 20 years earlier, and it's likely that his secrets, such as his goals and constitution, will be revealed there.
Character Ranking #10: Michael
He's the leader of Aventure, a drifter organization based in Rock Town. His family runs the huge agricultural business, Farm Nest, so he's essentially a rich kid. He's a foolish, spoiled brat who doesn't think things through and acts on impulse, but his skills as a drifter are top-notch. He views Tokio as a rival, but his abilities are on a par with Tokio's. He also excels in command skills, making a significant contribution to the defeat of Silverstorm. He's a rare character, a highly capable and capable idiot.
