We'll be covering some very important things, so be sure to read this before watching the anime.

[Boogiepop Doesn't Laugh] Things you should know about Echoes: 1. What is their true identity?

Handsome

This "Echoes" character we're introducing today is a tall, slim, and incredibly handsome man with long, white hair. His green eyes are truly beautiful. He first appears in the anime in episode 1, and his role ends in episode 3. Takeda Keiji is quite a handsome guy, but Echoes is a handsome guy with an otherworldly feel! It's sad that he's ending in episode 3 (lol), but he's not just a handsome guy.

Extraterrestrial Lifeform

In fact, Echoes is a humanoid extraterrestrial lifeform (aliens). It's a symbol of science fiction. They are unable to communicate, and instead communicate by echoing the other person's voice (words) (by repeating the same thing). They also communicate by shaking their heads. It really changes the image of aliens, doesn't it? (lol)

[Boogiepop Doesn't Laugh] Things You Should Know About Echoes ② Purpose

Investigating Earthlings

Echoes' purpose in coming to Earth was to determine whether Earthlings were evil or righteous. This would determine whether or not to attack Earth. This part feels very sci-fi. During their investigation, they encounter many humans, and the first half of the story would have clearly concluded that Earthlings are evil.

Confinement and Research

When Echoes arrived on Earth, he was imprisoned and studied by an organization called the "Unification Organization." He desperately managed to escape, but the journey was painful, and when he first appeared, he was wandering the city crying. The Earth was already completely doomed, but Echoes' decisions change as a result of the encounters that follow.

Encounters

First, we meet Boogiepop. Boogiepop gives her some advice (words of encouragement), which lifts her spirits a little. He also escapes danger with the help of a police officer. He then meets Kamikishiro Naoko and finds a hiding place. Kamikishiro herself is unaware of it, but she is the only one who can converse normally with Echoes. She possesses that ability. And in the end, she makes a decision thanks to Shinkoku Kei's enthusiasm.

Justice

Echoes transforms into light and completes his mission to report to his homeland. The result is that Earthlings are righteous. And when he unleashes this light, he fatally wounds the manticore. He was trying to help us until the very end. It's a shame that the anime didn't go into that much detail, but there was actually a hidden story behind it!

Fake

In the story, Echoes appear, eating people. There were two people who took on the appearance of Echoes halfway through the story. The one eating people was actually a man-made monster called a "Manticore (cannibal)." Echoes were studied and the Manticore was created by the Unity Organization. What a cruel research project. If it had ended here, Earth might not exist today.

[Boogiepop Doesn't Laugh] Things You Should Know About Echoes #5: Combat Abilities

Superhuman

This is Echoes fleeing to the rooftop after encountering the manticore. This is the power of a light jump. Of course, as an extraterrestrial life form, he has superhuman physical abilities. And as he is the original Manticore, his abilities go even further.

Unable to perform

Before the battle with the Manticore, Masami Saotome, who was teaming up with the Manticore, poisoned him. Furthermore, when Saotome kills his ally, Kirima Nagi, Echoes gives half of his life to Saotome. As a result, he is unable to demonstrate his true strength. In reality, he is incredibly strong! I'd love to be protected! (lol)
