"Revisions" is the latest work from director Taniguchi Goro, who worked on Code Geass, an anime that has been airing since winter 2019. Set in Shibuya more than 300 years in the future, five select high school students fight against a mysterious enemy called "Revisions" using weapons called "String Puppets." We've made our own arbitrary ranking of the characters' strengths!

[Revisions] Strength Ranking #1: "Nicholas Sato/Keisaku Asano (After Fusion with the Crystal of Nothingness)"

Final Boss of the Series

Fused Keisaku and Nicholas

Fusing with the Crystal of Nothingness left behind after Keisaku's disappearance, he becomes both Nicholas and Keisaku. He is also the final boss of Revisions, a super-dimensional being capable of existing at any time. His combat abilities are also impressive, as he transforms into Keisaku, Nicholas, and Gespenst one after another, overwhelming Daisuke.

A Being Beyond the Cage of Time

Nicholas Says Goodbye to Poor Boy

A Character with a Deep Connection to Daisuke

Afterward, after revealing an important fact concerning Daisuke's fate, he attempts to travel back in time to pursue Milo, who has been instructed by Arve to go back in time and kill Keisaku. However, Daisuke ends up traveling with him during the dimensional transfer, sending Daisuke back to 2010, the year they first met.

Nicholas settles things with Poor Boy

Nicholas attempts to kill Daisuke at various times, but for some reason fails. Finally, in the dimension where Daisuke travels back in time, Nicholas attempts to settle things with Daisuke outside of time. Like a kind final boss who dutifully heals you before the battle, Nicholas prepares a string puppet of Daisuke and faces him in the final battle.

Good fight! Poor Boy!

The Final Battle with Poor Boy

Daisuke was also put in a difficult position in the final battle by Nicholas's teleportation-based attacks. However, even though Daisuke was considered to lack outstanding abilities as a puppet master, he had certainly grown through numerous battles. In the end, he read Nicholas's attack pattern and defeated him, with Nicholas praising him, "Good fight, Poor Boy!"

[Revisions] Strength Ranking #2: "Gespenst"

An Unexpected Presence

Gespenst insulting Daisuke

A mysterious being appeared before Daisuke in Episode 6. Even the Revisions team was unaware of its existence, and Nicholas analyzed it as a mutant, higher-dimensional being, naming it Gespenst (ghost). It teleported like a ghost, sending Daisuke unsettling audio data, overwhelming him and showing enough strength to partially destroy his puppet.

Could it be that character!?

The Gespenst protecting MariMari

He also appears before Daisuke in episode 10 during the Revisions' attack on Shibuya. However, based on the audio data he receives and his rescue of MariMari from Civilians, it becomes clear that he is none other than Keisaku, who was supposed to have vanished.

Fighting Style

Gespenst Clone Attack

With a form that combines the mobility of a string puppet with the physique of a civilian, he teleports and primarily attacks with his claws. He doesn't use special punches or ultimate kicks.

[Revisions] Strength Ranking #3: Nicholas Sato

Nicholas's Real Body

Nicholas's Real Body

A senior member of Revisions, this is the real body of Nicholas Sato. While there are few clear battle scenes, he is capable of creating gravitational fields and restraining Keisaku and Daisuke's string puppets with them. The binding force is so strong that it is able to nearly neutralize the string puppets. This ability to manipulate gravitational fields remained even after Nicholas became a being capable of existing in any dimension.

[Revisions] Strength Ranking: 4th Place: Keisaku Asano

The Protagonist's Best Friend

Keisaku, the Man Who Was the Protagonist

As Daisuke's best friend, Keisaku is the unsung hero who acts as the mood-maker for the five characters. He is caring and insightful, and was crucial in maintaining the relationships between the five characters, especially in extreme situations. However, when Keisaku witnessed his mother being murdered in front of him during a raid on Revisions' headquarters, he became enraged and killed Chiharu, who was born with a quantum brain. He was then caught up in a time-space transfer at the time of his death and disappeared.

A Character Who Was Supposed to Be the Protagonist

Keisaku in a Rage

Although Keisaku played a supporting role in the story, the Arves predicted his greatest talent. He was the first person to pilot a puppet, making him a key member of the Puppet Masters. His potential abilities are perhaps the highest of the five, and even when he becomes a Gespenst or fuses with Nicholas, he overwhelms Daisuke with his superior combat abilities. He is a character who was potentially "supposed to be the protagonist."

[Revisions] Strength Ranking #5: "Zhang Jian Steiner"

Guy's Outstanding Leadership

Guy Riding a Puppet

With his excellent grades and exceptional athletic ability, Guy seems perfect, but even after being transferred to Shibuya, he continues to act as a leader with calm judgment. He also possesses excellent puppet piloting skills, demonstrating great aptitude even when piloting a puppet for the first time. His chemistry with his sister, Ruu, makes him a key member of the Puppet Master team. He's adept at piloting both the yellow puppet, designed for mid-range combat, and the red puppet, designed for long-distance combat.

[Revisions] Strength Ranking #6: "Zhang Lu Steiner"

Like his older brother, he's an excellent student

Rou Riding a Puppet

Like his older brother, Guy, he showed great aptitude for riding a puppet the first time he did so, and when the Revisions invaded Shibuya, he took turns with Guy to deal with the Civilians, demonstrating his prowess.

He primarily uses a red string puppet equipped with a large sniper rifle, demonstrating his aptitude for long-range attacks.

[Revisions] Strength Ranking #7: Daisuke Dojima

The Protagonist! ...Or so he was supposed to be

Daisuke Riding a Puppet

Daisuke Dojima, the protagonist of Revisions, believed in Milo's prophecy that "a terrible crisis will come, and when it does, you will be the one to protect everyone," and prepared for the crisis on his own. Naturally, Daisuke was far from being the strongest character with the protagonist bonus...or anything like that.

Actually... he wasn't such a promising character.

.Daisuke Riding a Puppet for the First Time

Although he was quite skilled at controlling a puppet, he was reckless and often acted selfishly. When criticized, he would become enraged and lash out at those around him, making him extremely troublesome. He also wasn't particularly suited to being a Puppet Master. In fact, according to Arve's future predictions, Daisuke didn't have any outstanding abilities and was supposed to be a backup Puppet Master, not a main force.

Good fight!

Daisuke: The Man Who Wasn't the Protagonist

However, it is true that Daisuke fought as a key member of the Puppet Master and achieved success, which certainly contributed to his growth. In the final battle, Daisuke predicted his opponent's moves and won, making him undoubtedly the most mature character in the series. Good fight! Poor boy!

[Revisions] Strength Ranking: 8th Place: "Civilian"

Revisions' Combat Weapons

Civilian Attack

Revisions' combat weapons. They have masked faces, gigantic bodies, and claws. With speeds that belie their size, they are invincible to ordinary weapons, making them a menacing presence that caused numerous deaths in the first episode alone.

In fact, they are the remains of humankind.

The Civilians Attack Again

However, their true identity is a human from the future who was infected with the RV virus and fused with machines to avoid death. Their bodies are bloated, and their intelligence is almost nonexistent. They are also the raw material for making string puppets.

【revisions】Strength Ranking: 9th Place: "Milo"

A Motorcycle-Riding Commander

Balancer Milo

Balancer is an Arve agent. While his combat abilities exceed those of an average person, he lacks the firepower to neutralize the Revisions' combat weapons. He rides his own motorcycle and supports the Puppet Master. His gun isn't powerful enough to neutralize Civilians, only serving as a deterrent. However, she served as a commander, providing precise instructions to Daisuke and the other puppet masters, who lacked combat experience, and was a key player in the Shibuya Drifting.

[revisions] Strength Ranking #10: Airi Temanawa

She's Not Good at Fighting

Marimari, Who's Not Good at Fighting

She's like a mascot for the five members and dislikes conflict. When she discovered that the Revisions' combat weapon, the Civilian, was originally human, she vehemently refused to pilot a puppet. Among the five Puppet Masters, he is timid and not very good at controlling puppets, so he generally doesn't ride a puppet and backs up the other members. However, he is quick to notice things that others don't, and when the time comes, he has the courage to fight on the front lines even when he's not riding a puppet.

[Revisions] Top 10 Strength Rankings

I've compiled a personal and biased ranking of the characters' strengths in Revisions. From the beginning to the middle, the protagonist Daisuke's behavior was often outrageous, making for a frustrating story, but the buildup towards the end was fantastic! I ranked the protagonist Daisuke 7th, but your impression may change if you watch until the end. This is a work that you should definitely watch until the end.
