The anime series "My Hero Academia," also known as "Hero Academia," is now in its fifth season, making it a long-running series. It has become a worthy flagship manga for Jump, and we're excited to see how it develops! Hero Academia also features many unique characters. So, in conjunction with the anime's fifth season, we'd like to introduce some of the main characters!
My Hero Academia's protagonist, the formerly "quirkless" boy, Izuku Midoriya
A nerdy boy who loves heroes. He has a particular admiration for All Might, and his room is filled with All Might merchandise. However, the boy who dreamed of becoming a hero was a Quirkless individual, a rare trait these days. Still, Izuku refused to give up on his dream of becoming a hero, and his life changed completely when he met All Might. Inheriting All Might's Quirk, Izuku fulfilled his dream of becoming a hero and enrolled in U.A. High School, the most competitive hero school, to become All Might's successor. His hero name was Deku.
Quirk: Quirkless → One for All
Izuku inherited this Quirk from All Might. It boosts physical abilities to the limit, unleashing incredible power, but if not mastered, it will destroy his own body. However, its true essence is to "store power and transfer it to another person." It is a Quirk that has been passed down from the first generation and grows stronger with each generation. In Izuku's generation, the Quirk of previous successors manifested.
The Strongest No. 1 Hero: All Might
A living legend, All Might has long reigned as the No. 1 hero thanks to his immense power and popularity. His elusive appearances at crime scenes and his overwhelming power have made him a hero of justice, a deterrent to crime. However, before the story begins, he battled his nemesis and barely emerged victorious, but suffered serious injuries that made it difficult for him to continue his role as a hero. My Hero Academia begins when he meets Deku and entrusts him with his abilities.
Quirk: "Quirkless" → "One For All" → "Quirkless"
In his youth, he was a Quirkless young man, just like Izuku, but he inherited his Quirk from Shimura Nana, the seventh successor, and became All Might. Although All Might had become a living legend, his body had already reached its limits, so he entrusted One For All to Izuku and has since been training the next generation of heroes. His real name is Yagi Toshinori. He continued to fight using the lingering power of One For All, but he gave it his all in his battle with All For One and retired from being a hero.
The Genius Delinquent "Katsuki Bakugo"
Izuku's childhood friend and bully. Despite being a bad-tempered delinquent, he is an honor student who has never experienced failure thanks to his exceptional physical abilities, athletic talent, and overwhelmingly powerful Quirk. However, his personality is far more villainous than most. As a result, he was even kidnapped and scouted by a villain, but after the kidnapping and All Might's retirement, his attitude seems to have changed.
Quirk: Explosion
This Quirk releases a nitro-like substance from the sweat glands in his palms, causing explosions. This Quirk not only allows him to use explosions for attacks, but also for acceleration and movement. His diverse abilities are not only due to the Quirk's influence, but also his own exceptional sense. However, due to the Quirk's characteristics, he is not good at stealth. His personality also makes him unlikely to do so.
Shoto Todoroki, the Genius Who Controls Fire and Ice
He rose from No. 2 to No. 1 after All Might's retirement. As the son of Endeavor, he is a genius who controls fire and ice. At first, Shoto hated Endeavor for neglecting his family in his pursuit of strength, which ultimately led to his mother becoming ill, and he sealed away his fire powers. However, after U.A.'s sports festival, he unleashed his fire powers, and Endeavor himself changed, which led him to begin to face his father.
Quirk: Half-Cold, Half-Burning
Shoto freezes the right half of his body and burns the left half. Its range and power are extraordinary, but it was Endeavor's obsession with All Might that led to its creation. Now, Shoto has unleashed his fire powers and is even receiving advice from Endeavor. Because of his powerful Quirk, he often finds himself at the mercy of it.
The first-time killer of the General Education Department's expectations: "Shinso Hitoshi"
Although he is a student from the General Education Department, he strongly desires to transfer to the Hero Education Department. Due to his Quirk, he underperformed in the entrance exam, but at the U.A. Sports Festival, he demonstrated his tricky Quirk and was recognized as the star of the General Education Department. He participated as an additional member in the joint combat training between Classes A and B, making his presence known and it is said that he will almost certainly transfer in his second year.
Quirk: "Brainwashing"
If he questions his target and they respond, the brainwashing is complete. At this point, he seems powerless to resist...or so you might think. However, he is easily deprogrammed by shock, becomes the first to become suspicious if his secret is revealed, and his own combat abilities are low and he has many challenges. Even so, his Quirk remains a one-hit kill, and to compensate for this, he learned techniques directly from Eraser Head, who was in a similar situation.
Endeavor, the Hero Who Controls the Goujou Flame
His real name is Enji Todoroki. He is Shoto Todoroki's father and the former No. 2 hero who unwillingly became No. 1 after All Might's retirement. He had an extremely ambitious personality and a strong attachment to All Might. In order to surpass All Might, he forced himself to marry a wife with a powerful Quirk and subjected his son to abusive training. However, Enji's attitude changed after All Might's retirement, and he began to face his family head-on. He's actually a doting father.
Quirk: Hellflame
This Quirk allows him to freely control explosive flames, granting him overwhelming firepower and the ability to move at high speeds. It boasts some of the strongest firepower in the series and excellent range and attack area, but it also has the weakness of overheating if used too much.
The No. 2 Hero, "Hawks," the Fastest Man
The fastest hero, Hawks was the youngest to reach the top 10 on the Billboard charts. He rose from third to second place in the rankings around the time of All Might's retirement. He possesses a carefree and elusive personality, shrouded in mystery, but he was actually a confidant for the League of Villains. However, he was actually a double agent at the request of the Public Security Bureau.
Quirk: "Hard Wings"
This Quirk allows him to freely control the wings on his back. Not only can he fly at high speeds, but he can also shoot them and change shape. While his Quirk allows for dexterity, his flying ability declines as his wings decrease. He also has a weakness: he lacks firepower when his opponents are overly tough.
Tomura Shigaraki, the Young Leader of the Villain League
The young leader of the Villain League, a group of eccentric enemies. He is the successor to All For One, All Might's nemesis. He has a spoiled, childlike personality and is mentally immature. He is the grandson of Nana Shimura, the seventh heir to One For All. His real name is Tenku Shimura. Triggered by abuse from his father, his Quirk of Collapse manifested, causing him to murder his entire family. The fact that everyone turned a blind eye to his actions sparked his hatred for hero society.
Quirk: Collapse
This Quirk causes anyone or anything it touches to disintegrate. Anything it touches gradually disintegrates, eventually disappearing without a trace. He usually hides his face with a severed hand, but that hand is actually the hand of a family member he once murdered.
Leader of the Paranormal Liberation Army: Re-Destro
On the surface, he is the president of the support company Tetranet. However, his true identity is the supreme leader of the Paranormal Liberation Army, an extremist organization that advocates the free exercise of paranormal powers as a right. He is the son of Destro, a violent criminal who once clashed with the government over legal reform. He secretly spread his ideology, gathering a total of 116,516 members and building a powerful organization. He launched his activities under the guise of a birthday celebration, and began a conflict with the League of Villains.
Quirk: Stress
This is a paranormal power that converts accumulated stress into power. The more stress he accumulates, the greater his power becomes, and his body becomes stronger and larger. This Quirk transforms the stress of suppressed quirks in hero society into power.
