Have you heard of the wildly popular manga "My Hero Academia," whose fourth anime season is scheduled for fall 2019? It's a classic, yet unique, shonen manga, and I highly recommend it to anyone who hasn't seen it yet. This time, I'd like to take a closer look at the Shie Hassaikai, an organization that appears in the fourth season. Beware of spoilers!
What is My Hero Academia?
Hiroaka for short
These are the main characters of "My Hero Academia," or Hiroaka for short. The series began serialization in Weekly Shonen Jump in issue 32 of 2014. It's been about five years now, and its popularity shows no signs of waning. This marks author Kohei Horikoshi's third serialization and has become his signature work.
Its popularity is incredible
Starting as a manga, it has been adapted into an anime, a film, Blu-ray & DVD, radio, and even a stage play. A live-action film is also planned for the future, and it seems its popularity is far from fading. It was also chosen as one of Weekly Shonen Jump's most popular manga, along with "ONE PEACE" and "HUNTER x HUNTER"! There are many secrets to its popularity, but the thoughtful story structure, captivating characters, and the sense of exhilaration and elation you feel after finishing a story are all unique to My Hero Academia.
Synopsis
In a world where approximately 80% of the world's population is born with some kind of quirk (a special ability-like power), the protagonist, Izuku Midoriya, was born without one, making him one of the approximately 20% who are quirkless. In a world where being a hero is a recognized profession, there is a truly dream job: fighting villains and protecting peace. This is a success story about a hero who strives every day to become such a hero! You'll want to root for the protagonist with all your might. Now, let's introduce the Shie Hassaikai, a group that will play an important role in the fourth season of the anime.
What is Shie Hassaikai?
Natural Monument
It's a bit difficult to read, but it's pronounced Shie Hassaikai (Shie Hassaikai). This is the name of a Yakuza organization, or so-called "sujimono" (gang leader). As the number of heroes has increased, these types of people have become less common and are now treated like natural treasures. Among them, the Shie Hassaikai still remains. The Shie Hassaikai are constantly under surveillance from all sides as potential villains.
Kyoukaku
The boss of the Shie Hassaikai values the old-fashioned yakuza way of life, believing that he must be a kyoukaku (gang leader), so to speak. Of course, most of his subordinates adored their boss, but the second-in-command, the wakagashira, had a rather twisted way of thinking. Kai Chisaki used his Quirk to put his boss in a vegetative state, seizing power and enforcing his own ideas. His sense of justice led him to resort to such eccentric behavior, but he intends to return his boss to normal once his plan is complete. This has led to speculation online that Kai Chisaki may be Quirkless.
【Shie Hassaikai】Wakagashira
Kai Chisaki
This is Kai Chisaki, the wakagashira. He's a young man with slightly reddish-black hair and a plague mask. He's extremely obsessive-compulsive, so sensitive that he breaks out in hives when touched by others. All members of the Jisaki faction also wear plague masks, which is quite creepy. The reason isn't for uniformity, but because they don't want to breathe the same air as corrupt members.
Quirk
His quirk is called "Overhaul." He also goes by this name. It allows him to disassemble and repair (heal) anything he touches. Using it on a human can instantly kill them. He can be revived by disassembling and repairing objects, and his offensive and defensive abilities are quite impressive. He can also create secret routes by disassembling and repairing walls, making him a formidable foe.
Past
Hirosaki first met his master when he was picked up by him as a child. While it's unclear why he was alone or abandoned, he was greatly cared for by his master, and it seems he was deeply infatuated with him. He claims he put him in a vegetative state in order to repay his master's kindness, with the goal of reviving the entire yakuza world, but his methods are flawed. It seems he's willing to do whatever it takes to achieve his plan.
Thoughts
The organization has a young girl named Eri. Using her rewinding Quirk, they transformed some of her cells into Quirk-erasing bullets and serum. The plan is to sell the former to villains and the latter to heroes. However, creating the bullets requires Eri to endure daily pain and fear, making it a truly cruel plan. Incidentally, Eri is also a relative of the master, being his grandson. Just imagining it makes life hellish. It's only natural that the master would vehemently oppose this plan.
Kenjiro Tsuda
The voice actor for the anime will be Kenjiro Tsuda. He's also a stage actor, so he's incredibly handsome! He's also a very popular voice actor, active in TV dramas and other media. While he often plays low-pitched, taciturn characters, his voice has a powerful presence that's hard to forget. It's the perfect voice for Harusaki, so be sure to check him out.
[Shie Hassaikai] Members of the Jisaki Faction
Chronostasis
Now, let's introduce the members (close aides) of the Shie Hassaikai and the Jisaki Faction. First up is Chronostasis. He is a senior member of the Shie Hassaikai who serves as an assistant to the Wakagashira. His real name is Kurono Hari. He wears a large white hooded coat and is known for his Edo accent, using phrases like "sui yasen" (thank you) and "okure yashita" (late). His quirk is Chronostasis, just like his nickname. He attacks by shooting his hair like needles, controlling his opponent's movements. He'll slow down by an hour, so be sure to dodge!
Mimic
Next up is Mimic, the head of the Shie Hassaikai. His real name is Irinaka Joui, and he's quick to lose his temper (lol). He has a very low temper, and he easily fell for the Villain League's provocations, resulting in his untimely defeat. His Quirk is Mimicry. At first, it was thought that the bird doll was Irinaka, but it was actually a doll being controlled using his Quirk. They can enter and control anything the size of a refrigerator, and they can disguise themselves as walls or the ground, shaking them like earthquakes or blocking entrances and exits, giving them considerable offensive power.
[Shie Hassaikai] Teppo-dama Members
Touya Tono
Teppo-dama are a group that mainly handles the dirty work for Shie Hassaikai. Many of them were picked up by Haruka, and they are treated like disposable pawns. His name is Seto Touya, and he was betrayed by his girlfriend and left with a huge debt. He was about to commit suicide when a hero saved him (lol). He seems to feel indebted to Overhaul, who picked him up. His quirk is theft. It's a very handy quirk that allows him to transfer anything the other person is wearing into his own hand, as long as he can see it! It was quite confusing. According to the author, there's a handsome man underneath the mask.
Tabe Soramitsu
Tabe Soramitsu, with his creepy scarecrow-like appearance and a string tied around his neck, is also a member of the Shie Hassaikai who handles the dirty work. He constantly chants "I'm going to eat!" and is characterized by his low intelligence and limited ability to communicate. His Quirk is food, which causes him to constantly starve to death, never feeling satisfied, no matter how much he eats. It's a very painful Quirk. Because of this Quirk, he was unable to adapt to society, and was picked up by Overhaul, which is how he ended up in the Shie Hassaikai. He recognized Tono and Hojo as friends, and this fact was exploited and he was arrested by the police. He seems to be sincere in his friendship.
Hojo Yu
Hojo Yu is a teammate who works well with Tono and Tabe to toy with opponents, attacking and finishing them off. He has a shaved head, deeply chiseled features, and a small mask. His Quirk is Crystal, which allows him to produce extremely powerful gems from his body. His shaved head makes it easier to produce the gems. The jewel had no monetary value, and was used by a money-grubber for its value. However, when it was discovered to be worthless, it was discarded and picked up by Overhaul. It's a bit sad.
Rappa Kendou
This man, a very muscular man with a sharp mask, is Rappa Kendou. As a reaction to his parents' oppressive upbringing, he became obsessed with fighting, and fighting has become his life's purpose. It was Jisaki who defeated Rappa, who had never been defeated before. Even now, if he gets the chance, he'll pick a fight (lol). He's not just out to kill people, he's a pretty eccentric guy who treated Fat Gum with Kirishima Eijiro, a hero, and tried to start a fight again. He's either a bit absent-minded or a good guy (although since he's a murderer, it's hard to say for sure that he's a good guy), as he sometimes mentions what Osamu is up to. His quirk is his strong shoulders, and he uses the rotation of his shoulders to launch terrifying attacks. He's really cornered!
Tengai Hekiji
Tengai Hekiji is characterized by his large mask, narrow eyes, and traditional Japanese clothing. He was invited to join Shie Hassaikai by Jisaki to stop Ranpa, who would easily go out of control, but it seems he's not doing it willingly. However, after a battle, he tried to stop Ranpa but failed, and was instead attacked and, while he was unconscious, tied up with rope and arrested (lol). His Quirk is Barrier, which allows him to create a semi-transparent hemispherical barrier.
Nemoto Shin
The man dressed in all black, wearing a black top hat and a black cape, is Nemoto Shin. His Quirk is Truth-Spitting, which allows him to force anyone he questions to reveal their true feelings and knowledge. Unlike the other members, he isn't suited to attack or defense, but that's why he's so proud to be able to stand alongside Harusaki. He seems to be deeply devoted to Harusaki, and even when he was completely worn out, he was driven solely by his loyalty and even tried to crawl to Harusaki's side. That's because, after using his Quirk and being betrayed by so many lies, the only person he could trust was Sakaki Deidoro.
Sakai Deidoro
What a surprising entrance! This is Sakaki Deidoro. He has long black hair, a dragonfly-like mask, and is always drunk. He seems like an alcoholic, and drinking like crazy is just like Kotono (lol). He says, "I can't walk on the ground because my legs are too wobbly," so he moves around by hanging from the pipes in the ceiling. That alone is creepy enough. Of course, his Quirk is Drunk. He throws off his opponent's sense of balance, rendering them unable to fight.
Katsukame Rikiya
He's known for his mask, which has a design somewhat resembling a Ranpa, and his impressive physique. He's the first opponent he fought when he entered the Shie Hassaikai. His Quirk allows him to steal vitality, and by touching someone, he can use that vitality to power himself. He's also a powerful warrior who uses Quirk-enhancing drugs to steal the vitality of nearby heroes and police officers, weakening them without even touching them.
