The main focus of Mobile Suit Gundam is, of course, the fierce battles between mobile suits! However, Mobile Suit Gundam THE ORIGIN, which we'll be introducing today, barely features any mobile suits. However, there are still several mecha characters, so this time we'll be ranking the strength of mecha characters, including non-mobile suits!

5th Place: Guntank

Guntank fighting in urban areas

In fifth place is the Guntank, the Federation's main combat vehicle! As you can see, it looks like a combination of a mobile suit and a tank, and is extremely powerful in ground combat. However, with space battles now the norm, the Guncannon has fallen into disuse, and is now primarily used for riot suppression. However, its low-recoil cannon is powerful enough to destroy even a Zaku II with a single shot. Even though it's outdated, it's still not to be underestimated.

4th Place: Guncannon

In fourth place is the Guncannon, a mass-produced mobile suit of the Federation Forces. I ranked it fourth because the main battlefield is different between space and ground, but it might actually be fifth... It's treated like such a terrible underdog in this work, being overpowered by the Zaku and defeated helplessly. This image, too, is rather sad, with its arm ripped off by the enemy and running...

3rd Place: Mass-Produced Zaku

Mass-Produced Zaku Heading to the Battlefield

Third place goes to the Zaku, the mass-produced mobile suit of the Zeon army! Unlike the Federation's mass-produced mobile suit, the Guncannon, this cutting-edge machine demonstrates overwhelming performance on the battlefield. Its maneuverability allows it to soar through the sky and its defensive capabilities make it immune to attacks from the Guncannon alone. It uses bazooka-like firearms to defeat long-range enemies and axe-like weapons at close range.

Black Tri-Stars

Mass-Produced Zaku Black Tri-Stars Version

This is the same Zaku, but this is Miguel Mash Ortega's favorite machine. It's distinctively black (dark purple), and piloted by the Black Tri-Stars. Rather than the difference in Zaku's performance, the combination of the three pilots demonstrated their overwhelming power compared to other Zakus. Later, the three switched to Doms, and their "Jet Stream Attack" became a famous line in Gundam.

2nd Place: Bugu

Bugu Ramba Ral's Machine

Our second choice is the Bugu, piloted by Ramba Ral! As a prototype Zaku, it's older than the Zaku, but its emphasis on performance over operability makes it comparable in performance to the Zaku II. Furthermore, the pilot is Ramba Ral, an exceptionally skilled mobile suit pilot. He would later be nicknamed the "Blue Giant."

No. 1: Char's Zaku

Char's Zaku on the Battlefield

This is the mobile suit I chose as number one without a second thought! I'm sure anyone who's seen this film would rank Char's Zaku number one. Above all, Char, the pilot, is outstanding! Furthermore, because his limits have been removed, he can disrupt Federation ships at three times the speed of a mass-produced Zaku, destroying them one after another. Its appearance is truly that of a red comet. It's a perfect nickname for Char.

Extra: Gundam

Gundams that didn't appear in Origin

You might be wondering, "Mobile Suit Gundam, but why isn't there a Gundam?" In this work, Gundam was still in development and only appeared in blueprints and the like. If it had appeared, I'm sure it would have been strong enough to compete for second place with Char's Zaku. While Gundam's absence from the series is unavoidable due to the timeline, I would have liked to have seen it even briefly.

Mechanical Strength Ranking Summary

Char's Zaku and Mass-Produced Zaku

The above is the mechanical strength ranking for the OVA version of "Mobile Suit Gundam THE ORIGIN." The number is a bit small, but please forgive me, as these were the only major mechanicals that appeared in the series... (lol). There are also many other mecha that appear in Gundam, such as the Z'Gok, Acguy, Zock, Gelgoog, and Zeong, so they are also worth checking out. Char's red mecha is especially worth checking out!
