Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin focuses on Char's madness for revenge, but the members of the Zabi family are also an important part of the story. After Deikun's death, the Zabi family essentially took control of the Zeon military. They drive the Ral family, who get in their way, towards collapse, and if necessary, even carry out large-scale assassinations... This time, we'll introduce you to the Zabi family who control Zeon.
Degwin Sodo Zabi
Degwin Sodo Zabi, the head of the Zabi family, served as Deikun's right-hand man during his lifetime. With a shaved head and sunglasses, he gives off the impression of a tough-looking old man, but he is actually one of the more peaceful members of the Zabi family. He is not particularly combative and is often seen trying to settle matters through discussion. He exudes an air more like a politician than a soldier.
Degwin doted on Garma, even more than any of his children.
Speaking of Degwin, he was a father of five children. His youngest, Garma, was almost his grandson, and he doted on him beyond compare with his other children. He often kept Garma close to him, and even during the attack on Loum, Garma did not send him to the battlefield, but instead stayed aboard the Great Degwin, watching the battle together.
Gihren Zabi
Gihren Zabi is the eldest son of the Zabi family, with no eyebrows and a sinister look on his face. Even when the war tide is turning in his favor, he is intent on completely crushing the Federation forces, and he often clashes with his father, Degwin, over disagreements. His personality is as cold-hearted and cruel as his appearance suggests. However, this film also shows some surprising aspects of him, such as when he's playing a Go simulation game alone.
Ghihren's signature powerful speeches
For Gundam fans, seeing Gihren's face probably brings to mind his speeches in front of the microphone. Gihren has delivered powerful speeches in various situations, and as the commander-in-chief of the Principality of Zeon, he exudes a charismatic presence similar to that of Deikun. He's a very sharp-witted and persuasive character, and listening to his speeches will have you rooting for the Zeon forces (lol).
Sasro Zabi
Sasro was Degwin's second son and head of the Zeon Party's National Movement Department. He has a strict personality and is even more violent than he appears, even resorting to violence when his younger sister, Kycilia, makes a mistake. However, Sasro is the most obscure figure in the Zabi family... He may have been destined to become a powerful figure on par with Gihren, but he disappears in the first episode.
Is the culprit an enemy? Or an ally? Sasro is assassinated.
Sasro's disappearance in Episode 1 was due to assassination. On the way back from Deikun's funeral, an explosive device exploded in his car. Dozle, who was in the back seat, was seriously injured, and Sasro died. While there's no doubt that Sasro was the target of an assassination, whether it was the work of the Ral family or Kycilia, who was irritated with Sasro, remains a mystery. Sasro passed away without the truth ever being revealed.
Dozle Zabi
Dozle Zabi, Gihren's third son, is a lovable fool. Unlike his older brother, he is kindhearted and loyal, and while he resembles his father and can appear intimidating, he has been known to rush in and stop fights between his siblings. However, he serves as the principal of the officer training school where Char and his friends enroll, and is by no means incompetent, as he takes command on the front lines on the battlefield. (In fact, he was a very capable soldier.)
He recruits talented people, even if they are his enemies.
After Deikun's death, the Zabi and Ral families fought to the point of killing each other. However, even within the Ral family, Dozle held Ramba Ral's abilities in high regard. Therefore, after the Ral family lost the battle for supremacy, he approached Ramba Ral and scouted him as a pilot for mobile suit development. Dozle's generosity, willing to recruit even former enemies, is one of his best qualities.
Dozle unexpectedly marries a military cadet!?
The most surprising thing about Dozle was his marriage to Zena Mia, a military academy student. Zena Mia was the one who held Dozle at gunpoint during the "Dawn Rebellion," a single-minded attempt by military academy students. After the incident, Dozle called her in and, while it seemed she would be punished, she suddenly proposed marriage. The two later married and had a child, Mineva, bringing Dozle to tears as a father.
Kycilia Zabi
Kycilia Zabi, the only female member of the Zabi family, is not a kind person, but rather a mastermind operating behind the scenes in various situations. She is involved in almost every assassination plot, and is so cold-hearted that she doesn't care at all if many unrelated people are dragged into the mix in order to kill her target. When she tried to assassinate Casval, she blew up the entire ferry carrying many passengers.
Garma Zabi
Garma is the youngest child, significantly older than his siblings. He has a kind-hearted personality since childhood, and was doted on by his father, Degwin, and even Dozle. Upon entering the military academy, he became a character with a swarm of entourage and a full-blown, spoiled young man vibe. However, he becomes jealous of Char, who is clearly superior to him, and his rivalry with him burns.
Char rescues Garma after he gets lost during training, and the two become roommates.
During training, Garma slips and falls off a cliff while trying to outwit Char. Char notices this and goes to help Garma, and from there, Garma begins to open up to Char. He even begs Dozle to let him share a room with Char, showing his true feelings (lol). However, Char uses Dozle by encouraging him to be the mastermind behind the "Dawn Rebellion."
Zabi Family Summary
What did you think of this introduction to the Zabi family? Each character is unique (although Sasro dies quickly...), so preferences may vary, but personally, I absolutely love Dozle's character (lol). And Gihren's deep voice is irresistible! Which Zabi character was your favorite? I encourage you to watch this series and choose for yourself.
