Throughout the story of the anime, Arai-san and Fennec chased after the "hat thief" who had stolen his hat. Fennec thought it was a mistake, but he watched over Arai-san and acted together with him.
When it turns out that it was Kaban who had been chasing him, thinking he was a hat thief, he apologizes sincerely and returns the hat.
