The anime "Kaze ga Tsuyoku Fuiteiru" (The Wind Rises), which began airing in the fall of 2018, is set in the Hakone Ekiden marathon. It's based on the novel of the same name by Shion Miura. It was previously adapted into a manga by Sorata Umino, totaling six volumes. Its popularity has also led to film, stage, and radio drama adaptations. Aotake, an apartment complex at the Kansei University Track and Field Club training center, is home to Room 101, where Haiji Kiyose (Heidi), a fourth-year student in the Faculty of Letters, lives. In high school, she was a runner at a strong school, but suffered a dislocation fracture in her right knee and was unable to run for a while. However, after entering university, she gathered members and, after three years of waiting, is now aiming to run in the Hakone Ekiden with the group. At Aotake, she is responsible for everything from cooking and cleaning to creating practice menus.

Kiyose Haiji (Heidi) is gathering the members of Takeseiso (Aotake) for the Hakone Ekiden. Finally, the 10th member, Kakeru Kurahara, was found, and they immediately announced to the Aotake residents that they were aiming to run in the Hakone Ekiden, but not a single one agreed. Heidi then used the fact that she had lent him money and was in charge of everything at Aotake to slowly and demonically corner the residents. She looked just like a demon, and the residents of Aotake seem to call her that, just like her appearance. Furthermore, she allowed him to move into Aotake without telling them that it was a training center for the track and field club, and then, once all 10 members were gathered, she suddenly announced that they were aiming to run in the Hakone Ekiden, demonic in nature.

Kiyose Haiji (Heidi), who fell in love with Kurahara Haiji (Kakeru)'s running, learns that Kakeru will be attending Kansei University and is convinced that he is the last person they need to aim for the Hakone Ekiden. However, since they only just met, Kakeru asks Heidi if she can trust him. Heidi replies, "Trust? Of course not!" Kakeru almost loses his temper, but Heidi continues, "We've only just met!!" "All I know is the you I just met!! Your current running!! That running alone... I believe in you!!!" He's such a passionate person that he can deliver such passionate lines to someone he's just met.

At Aotake, Haiji Kiyose (Heidi) handles a variety of chores, from cooking and cleaning to planning training schedules for the members. However, there's one thing Heidi isn't very good at: driving a car. She seemed like a paper driver, and at times the car was shaking back and forth as it went along. The Aotake members who were in the car looked exhausted when they arrived at their destination and got out. Heidi may seem perfect, but it seems that driving a car is one thing she's not good at.
The voice actor for Heidi in the anime version is Toshiyuki Toyonaga.
