"Kaguya-sama" is back with a second season! It's about two troublesome geniuses who are in love with each other but are too proud to confess their feelings, so they're forced to focus on how to get the other to confess. I can't wait for the show to air, but today I'd like to introduce the main character, student council president Miyuki Shirogane, as a refresher and a preview!

This is what Miyuki Shirogane is like as a character, Part 1! The flawless student council president of Shuchiin Academy!

Miyuki Shirogane's first appearance

He's the top student at Shuchiin Academy, one of the country's most elite schools. He's a genius who rose to the top of his class solely through academic ability, earning the envy of his fellow students. He's intelligent and athletically gifted. He also serves as the student council president of Shuchiin Academy—a truly flawless, perfect man. That's the man known as Shirogane Miyuki.

A Man Who Isn't Really Perfect

While Shirogane certainly appears perfect at first glance, his inner self is far from perfect. While he surpasses Kaguya in academic ability, this is only backed by extraordinary hard work. Despite his athletic talent, his athletic sense is catastrophic. He can't swim. He's afraid of bugs, and has many other weaknesses, making him a total loser. Yet, he spares no effort to avoid revealing his weaknesses to Kaguya. That's the man known as Shirogane Miyuki. More than a genius, he's a brilliant thinker.

This is the kind of character Shirogane Miyuki is, Part 2! The Man Who Wants to Confess to Kaguya Shinomiya

Shirogane, Would You Like to Date Me?

He has feelings for Kaguya Shinomiya, the vice student council president of his year and daughter of the Shinomiya Group, a huge conglomerate. However, his inherent pride doesn't allow him to be cute enough to confess his feelings to her, and he believes, "If Shinomiya really wants to, I'll date him." However, Kaguya herself feels the same way, so despite their mutual feelings, their relationship doesn't progress at all. Instead, he becomes more focused on how to get the other person to confess.

This is the kind of character Shirogane Miyuki is, Part 3! The Useless Student Council President of Shuchiin Academy!

Shirogane the Bad Duck

As mentioned above, unlike Kaguya, Shirogane is not the type to display talent in all areas. Rather, he has many weaknesses, some of which are quite severe. However, Shirogane's pride makes him prone to working hard to overcome his own shortcomings. He even dragged Fujiwara, who happened to be present at the scene, into overcoming his weaknesses, causing him a great deal of trouble in the process. In some cases, Fujiwara's noble sacrifice helped improve his weaknesses to some extent.

Shirogane's Weakness #1: Uncoordinated

Shirogane the Dying Alpaca

Shirogane's lack of athletic ability is so severe that he even hits the back of his head with a volleyball serve. However, his physical abilities, developed through long-distance cycling to school and physically demanding part-time jobs, are at a high level, and his uncoordinatedness is due to his fatal lack of athletic ability. Thanks to Fujiwara's efforts, he shows some improvement, but for Fujiwara, this incident marks the beginning of hell.

Shirogane's Weakness #2: Sea Cucumber-Level Tone Deafness

Giant Shirogane

When Fujiwara caught Shirogane lip-syncing the school song, he discovered that he had gone too far. His singing was so terrible that he was described as a sea cucumber's guts or Giant. He thought he was a little tone-deaf, but in reality, it wasn't that bad. Thanks to Fujiwara's sacrifice, he's improved to a certain extent, but it seems this problem will have a lasting impact?

Points to Note in Shirogane's Second Season #1: A Battle of Wits with Kaguya?

Sparks flying between Shirogane and Kaguya

One of the highlights of the second season is the increasingly smaller scale of the battle of wits. While the rivalry between Shirogane and Kaguya is still going strong in the second season, it's also fascinating to see how their intelligence seems to be getting worse and worse! The title of the second season has been changed to "Kaguya-sama: Love is War?", and the curfew of a love battle of wits between geniuses has been crossed out. It's interesting to wonder if this is a self-deprecating joke about the fact that they're no longer geniuses or wits, or if there's progress in their relationship.

Shirogane's Dark Past Continues

Shirogane, I Did It

In the final episode of the first season, Shirogane showed his manliness by adding another dark past to his list. Perhaps the second season will see another dark past?! In the final episode of the first season, Kaguya misunderstood Shirogane and said, "That was embarrassing, wasn't it?", leaving him with a deep regret that makes him want to die. However, he continues to add dark pasts to his list. However, he will likely never realize that Shirogane's dark past is the most effective thing for Kaguya.

Points to Note in Shirogane's Second Season ②: The Incompetent Student Council President and Secretary Fujiwara

>M<なFujiwara

In the first season, his incompetence was exposed, and there were several episodes in which he overcame his weaknesses thanks to Secretary Fujiwara's noble sacrifice. However, Fujiwara's nightmare has not ended as if it were his right. Fujiwara will surely be sacrificed in the second season as well! We don't know when or where Shirogane's incompetence is hiding. Shirogane will continue to cause trouble for Fujiwara.

More Victims!?

Up until now, Fujiwara has been the only victim of Shirogane's incompetence, but in the second season, that character will become a victim!? Despite the new victims, it seems Shirogane still has a deep, hidden darkness. And as the victim, Fujiwara's reactions, which get increasingly worse with each episode, seem to get sharper with each episode. Incidentally, Shirogane himself seems to have a dark side, stemming from his complicated family background. In fact, I think Fujiwara is the only one without a dark side.

Points to Note in Shirogane's Second Season 3: Cool Shirogane

Shirogane Finds Kaguya

Shirogane and Kaguya are geniuses, in their own way. They wouldn't be stupid if it weren't for their mutual involvement. That's why Kaguya-sama has its rare, uncharacteristically serious episodes, where Shirogane is seen looking cool. You'll also see scenes in the second season where Shirogane looks cool and serious! After all, he is one of the main characters!

[Kaguya-sama: Love is War] Season 2 Summary of Shirogane Miyuki

Kaguya-sama, whose first season was hugely popular, is finally getting its second season. The first season ended around volume 5 of the manga, so if all goes well, it's likely to run until around volume 10. The battle of wits between Shirogane and Kaguya is also getting increasingly ridiculous, so I can't wait for it to air. Kaguya-sama's second season is scheduled to begin airing in April 2020!
