With her villainous features inherited from her mother, Katarina is the perfect example of the term "villainous lady." In the world of otome games, she uses despicable tactics and is ultimately ruined, but the protagonist of this work, "Katarina, who has memories of her past life," struggles to avoid those ruinous flags by using her knowledge from the otome game "FORTUNE LOVER" she played in her previous life. In this article, we'll introduce the protagonist, Katarina Claes! Although she looks like a villainous lady, she is kind-hearted inside and is loved by her friends. Let's take a look at what kind of character Katarina is.

Katarina regained her memories of her past life after an injury she sustained at age 8.

Bleeding Katarina

Born as the only daughter of the Marquis Claes family, Katarina was an extremely spoiled young lady who was raised in the lap of luxury. At the age of 8, Katarina was literally reborn. She fell and hit her head, causing blood to flow from her forehead. This moment triggered her to regain her memories of her past life. Soon after, she remembered that this world was the world of the otome game "FORTUNE LOVER," which she had played in her previous life.

Resist the determined future! Katarina's goal is to avoid the doom flag!

Katarina in Despair

After regaining her memories and learning that this world is the same as the one in the otome game, Katarina ponders her future. Thinking back to the memorable Katarina from "FORTUNE LOVER"... No matter which route she took, the ultimate ending was doom! At best, she was deported, and at worst, she faced a tragic end. Knowing that there is no happy ending, Katarina spends her childhood meticulously careful about her actions and words in order to avoid the disaster flags that await her.

Katarina Shows Her Insensitive and Airheaded Side

Katarina continues to rack her brains to avoid the disaster flags, and even if she fails to do so, to survive in life afterward. In the process, she comes into contact with a variety of people, from her fiancé, the third prince, Geordo, to girls around her age. While concerned about the destruction flag, Katarina mostly interacts with others in a natural way... However, she unwittingly solves others' problems and treats everyone equally. Her "natural" side attracts those around her, both men and women.

What is Katarina's relationship with the princes now that she's 15?

At 15, she's accepted into a magic academy, and the story finally shifts to the setting of a girl's game. For seven years since regaining her memories of her past life, Katarina has been preparing for this day, but her relationships with the main characters she's trying to capture are... almost too good to be true! The six main characters from "FORTUNE LOVER" who attend the same school as her, both male and female, have romantic feelings for her.

Waiting for the story's protagonist, Katarina, is Maria, the game's protagonist!

Katarina Meets Maria

The first thing Katarina noticed when she arrived at the school was Maria Campbell, the protagonist of "FORTUNE LOVER," who would ultimately drive her to ruin. (In the game, it's her own fault that leads to her downfall...) Having made various preparations for this moment, Katarina clenched her fists when she finally faced the real thing, vowing to not give in to the flags of ruin.

Katarina and Maria, arch enemies, become close friends.

Katarina and Maria reaching out

Unlike the game world, where Katarina is loved by the princes she is trying to capture, and Katarina gets in the way of that... in this world, Katarina and Maria have built a close friendship. Katarina is particularly fond of Maria, and often asks her to make sweets for her. Katarina has always been attracted to cute girls, but Maria's cuteness is something else entirely, as when she sees her smile, her eyes sparkle and her face becomes soft and gooey, saying, "Anyone would be excited by something like that!"

Katarina appears in place of the prince to help Maria in a pinch

Maria is a very kind and flawless girl, but she's of commoner birth and is harassed by the noble girls attending the school. One day, when she's surrounded while delivering cupcakes she'd made for Katarina, Katarina dashes in to rescue her, eating the cake that fell to the ground and bringing a smile to Maria's face. (In the game, this is an event that Geordo was supposed to do...) Furthermore, when Maria is about to be harassed with fire magic, she knocks down the attackers with the only magic she can use, "Earth Bomb," and then, with her characteristically villainous face, threatens and kicks them away.

Katarina successfully overcomes the Condemnation Event thanks to her friendship with her companions.

Katarina Takes on the Condemnation Event

One day at the diner, a young lady who was a potential fiancée of Geordo appears before Katarina with her companions. She then reveals evidence that Katarina has been harassing Maria. At first, Katarina panics as the events unfold exactly as in the game, but in reality, she has no recollection of doing anything like that, and the people who have gathered are slightly different from the game. Even so, when Geordo, Maria, and the others appear at the diner, she feels a sense of crisis that the same outcome as in the game will occur.

It was supposed to be a condemnation event, but everyone who showed up turned to Katarina's side.

In the world of "FORTUNE LOVER," Maria courageously confessed Katarina's misdeeds, resulting in her subsequent banishment... In this world, Maria, on the other hand, courageously proves her innocence for Katarina's sake. Her words inspire the princes to believe in Katarina and protect her one after another. As a result, everyone around her sided with Katarina, saying that Katarina would never do such a thing, and she successfully overcame the condemnation event.

Now that Maria is on her side, Katarina's greatest challenge is...

Katarina making a V-sign

Maria was thought to be Katarina's biggest problem, but before they knew it, the two of them had become more than just best friends. However, Katarina also has one nemesis. That's Katarina's mother! She has a villainous face very similar to Katarina's, and she lectures her whenever she causes trouble. In particular, when she found out she was working in the fields at school, she lectured her for three hours.

Who is Katarina's voice actor?

When it comes to anime adaptations, one thing that always fascinates me is the voice actor. As of January 2020, only Katarina's voice actor has been announced for this series. That voice actress is...the wildly popular voice actress Maaya Uchida! She's a popular female voice actress who hardly needs any introduction, but her most popular anime character is undoubtedly Sharo from "Is the Order a Rabbit?" After watching the PV, I thought it sounded just like Maaya Uchida always did, in a good way (lol). Personally, I think her energetic and lively voice is a perfect fit for Katarina.

Katarina overcomes the flag of destruction. Finally, it's a friendship ending!

Katarina and the Princes

The story is finally reaching its climax. Katarina faces the biggest event of her life: her seniors' graduation. At the reception after the graduation, Maria is approached by one of the men and marries him, leaving Katarina facing a disastrous ending...that's the ending of the game. Wary of this, Katarina clings closely to Maria. However, despite being cautious around her, no men approach her. Even when she directly asks Maria, "Is there a man you like?", she replies no. In the end, both Maria and the princes have feelings for Katarina... but Katarina is unaware of this and is happy to accept it as a "friendship ending."

A Summary of the Villainous Protagonist, Katarina Claes

Katarina with a Naughty Smile

So far, what do you think of our protagonist, Katarina? As you can see, her face is a total villain, but her inner self is a charming character with a stark contrast to her natural, insensitive, kind, and flirtatious nature. The voice actress is the energetic Maaya Uchida, so be sure to enjoy the contrast with her villainous face!
